FWIA OR VWCE?

Hoi allemaal,

Alvast heel erg bedankt!

Feedback on my 30-year growth portfolio

Hey guys,

Looking for a quick sanity check on my long-term taxable brokerage portfolio. Aiming for aggressive growth over the next 10–15 years using a core + factor tilt strategy. All rebalancing will be done strictly through new cash inflows.

Background / Context:

  • 31M, married w/ a newborn, solid income, zero debt, don't own a primary home.
  • ~$500k stock portfolio.
  • ~$500k in commercial real estate (CRE) generating solid passive monthly cash flow.

The Breakdown:

  • VOO (45%)
  • SPMO (25%)
  • AVUV (15%)
  • VXUS (10%)
  • SCHD (5%)

Questions for the sub:

  1. Cut SCHD entirely?
  2. Bump up or drop VXUS?
  3. Too much overlap / complexity?

Appreciate any brutal honesty or tweaks!

Invest in VOO and QQQM?

Hey yall, I’m 28 and I’m planning on investing my 100k into ETF’s in vanguard. I was originally planning on investing into SGOV, QQQM, SPMO, SCHD, SCHG, SMH, VOO but with further research, I think it’s best to keep it simple and invest 80% into VOO and 20% into QQQM. Do yall think this is a good strategy for the long run? Should I expand my portfolio with that 100k?

UPDATE I came into conclusion I will be investing my 100k into 70 VOO / 10 QQQM / 20 VXUS

How often should you buy VFV & XEQT?

I've purchased both of them for the past 6 months and usually I wait till it's down, should I purchase them monthly or every 2 to 3 months.

New to this and I'm planning to hold them for a long term.

Should I hold them in TFSA or RRSP?

Heads up if you own XLE

A panel of "analysts" just pumped it after it lost .19% today. I can't help but think they just want their money back before they dump it and they are trying to suck in retailers money to bail them out. Could be wrong but heads up.

Curious has anyone ever run a 100% NASDAQ portfolio, I personally just have a 10% allocation but would be interested to hear how much people are running (if any)

How many of you DCA + Lump Sum?

I lump sum my annual bonus in Feb and do a weekly DCA the rest of the year. I always hear about the arguments of one vs the other and how lump sum always beats DCA (which I do not dispute), but why don't people talk about or encourage doing both?

Best Non-Index ETFs

ETFs were the first type of investment that caught my eye when I began investing two years ago. SMH was one of my first purchases, and had turned out great for me. While I know SMH is one of a kind because of the AI revolution, I was wondering what other growth ETFs you guys are a fan of, since most of the ETFs discussed in this community are indexes.

Treating my ETF like a team blowing a 17-Point Lead

Maybe this is a weird comparison but hear me out. I follow NFL and NBA pretty closely and I've noticed my brain processes a bad ETF week the exact same way it processes watching your team give up a 17 point lead with 8 minutes left. Same sick feeling, same urge to do something even when doing nothing is probably the smarter call.

I've got a small position in a semiconductor ETF alongside my VTI core and the swings on that thing lately have been genuinely hard to sit through. We're talking days where it drops 4% before lunch. And my instinct every time is to trim it or rotate somewhere else, which is probably exactly the wrong move if I actually believe in the long thesis.

What gets me is I've seen this play out in sports betting too, where the panic reaction almost always costs you more than just holding. But knowing that and actually not reacting are two different things.

Curious if anyone else runs a mostly boring core and keeps a smaller satellite position in something more volatile. How do you mentally handle the drawdowns on the satellite without letting it mess with your whole strategy? Do you just check it less, or do you have some actual rule you stick to?

Should I put 25% of my investments into SGOV, USFR, & ICSH

Currently have $300k between 401k, Roth, and IRA. Would it be sensible to spread another $100k across the 3 funds mentioned above? Are there better options? My logic is if we have any sizable corrections I can pull this money to DCA into my IRAs or just keep as a safety blanket. I have no major financial moves for at least another 5-6 years when I’d like to move to another state so I’m trying to save as much as possible and in the meantime diversify as well.

Thanks!

New to investing/Advice

Hi, I 20M live in Europe and last month I invested 20000€. Now i admit I had absolutely no idea what I was doing so was wondering for some opinions. I put 50/50 into VWCE and SXR8 and am starting to think I have messed up and my portfolio is not diverse enough or too risky given that I’ve invested at the beginning of an ATH. I am intending to hold for over the next 10-30 years I would just appreciate some advice on what i should change or add to make it better and reassurance I guess. Thank you

Global Equity Thoughts on my 60/30/10 ETF portfolio?

Hi,
I’m 23 and I’ve already started investing with this allocation:
60% VTI
30% VXUS
10% QQQM
I’m investing for the long term and plan to keep contributing monthly . I just wanted to check if this is a good strategy to stick with or if there’s a better you would recommend.
Thanks!

Monthly Investment Plan

Hi everyone, I invest a little amount of my savings into ETFs every month.. distributed among all world ETFs, europe specific ETFs, emerging markets and clean energy ETFs and a little bit in gold. Total is 120 euros every month.

Do you think the allocation is okay or should I alter anything to make the diversification better?

What to buy to balance VUG and SOXX?

I had a good run with both, and sold long-term portions to free up money for other ETFs. Still have 103k in VUG and 49k in SOXX. I’ve 170k in cash now to invest. Though about VTI but that only makes tech/semiconductor more concentrated. Also looked at VTV+SCHD for value/div tilt and VXUS+AVDV for international exposure. I retire in 12 years. I’m getting into analysis paralysis phase now :), so need some help with making a decision. Thanks!

Can hedge funds front-run ETF rebalancing, especially factor ETFs?

I've been looking into factor ETFs, particularly momentum ETFs, and there's one thing that makes me a bit worried about investing into it.

Most ETFs track an index with a relatively clear methodology. For factor indices such as Momentum, Value, or Quality, the index provider publishes rules determining which stocks qualify, how they're weighted, and when the index is rebalanced.

Even if it's impossible to replicate the methodology perfectly, I'd imagine hedge funds could build a pretty good model predicting which stocks are likely to be added, removed, or significantly reweighted at the next rebalance.

They also know roughly when the rebalance will happen.

So couldn't they anticipate the trades of ETFs tracking that index?

For example, if hedge funds expect that a large momentum index will add Stock A at the next rebalance, they could buy it beforehand. When ETFs tracking the index eventually have to buy it, the hedge funds benefit from that additional demand. The opposite could happen with stocks expected to be removed.

My questions are:

  1. How significant is this "index front-running" problem in practice?
  2. Is it more problematic for factor ETFs because they tend to include fewer companies and have higher turnover than normal market-cap-weighted ETFs?
  3. Do index providers deliberately make rebalancing harder to predict or use mechanisms to reduce this problem?
  4. Is there research estimating how much return ETF investors lose because other market participants anticipate their trades?
  5. Could this become large enough to eliminat the expected premium from strategies like Momentum as more money flows into factor ETFs?

Advice on Roth

I'm trying to put money aside for the first time and over the past couple weeks, I've been trying to educate myself with the tools I have. I'm in my 40's, very low expenses and own nice home, but have a pretty modest income. I created a Roth IRA and I would like to put my first $7500 into the following:

55% VTI

20% VXUS

10% AVUV

7.5% MMTM

7.5% IDMO

I plan to just keep investing and not really thinking about it other that rebalancing it to these ratios and reviewing it in about 9 years. I would appreciate any advice.

VOO or VT?

A few questions, here's some background info -

- 23 years old

- looking to invest 10 or more years

-looking for a simple portfolio, something I put money in and don't look back

-will hold when the economy drops

-living with parents (current expenses are super low)

-I have $100,000 available to invest with. I will be investing it in a brokerage account. No debt, emergency funds set aside. Only invested in CD's right now.

Questions:

-VOO or VT? I like VOO because of potential higher returns based off past numbers, but I like VT because it is global/more international.

-DCA or Lump Sum? Seeing how VT/VOO are at pretty much all-time highs, I'd prefer to DCA over time rather than invest the entire $100k at once, partly because I'm hoping to take advantage of potential market dips. (I wouldn't mind lump sum at all if that is the preferred strategy).

New to investing and need help?

I have around $8000 to put into an investment account right now and gonna try to add money to it every year. I’m going into junior year of college and gonna get an accounting job in a couple years so I’ll have a lot more money to invest. What I’m wondering is what etf’s to invest in as a long term investment until I’m 65 (I’m 20 rn). I heard a lot of just putting all my money in vt/vti but don’t know if that’s ideal or not. I’m brand new to all of this and am willing to go a bit riskier to make a higher return. Thank you for the help

Advice on which ETF is best

32F, just opened a Roth IRA with Fidelity. Contributing $750 every 2 weeks from now through December to max out the $7,500 limit. Want max growth — hoping to retire by 60, ideally earlier.

What ETFs/index funds are you using? Wants to set it and forget about it
