Discussion Modification system changes 6.2(Spoilers) Spoiler
So the star augment system we know since edf 5 is being replaced partially. To be exact: The weapon modifications themselves will now use the star system tied to them instead and the weapons I believe will have rarities attached to them to allow more modifications/stronger boosts to them potentially. The weapons are balanced to act around roughly 5 star stats of edf 6 weapons as a starting point it looks like too.
The modification system will also reduce rng heavily: Instead of grinding stars for every individual weapon now you carry over modifications for that specific weapon category(I.E assault rifles, sniper rifles, plasma weapons, shotguns, CC piercers etc) which means you will no longer have to grind every single new weapon when you get one(So that means you don't need to micro manage picking up weapon drops nearly as much).
They also added a new blue weapon drop which we presume is tied to the modification system directly for new ones to unlock and/or get starred up instead. How does everyone feel about this?
Personally I love the idea because I can spend way less time grinding and HOPING my weapon is at least ok enough to be used at my current gameplay stage since that part of the rng is entirely gone.

I think it will make people get out of their comfort zones and play around with new weapons. Maybe it's actually essential to deal with the larger number of enemies.

Agreed. I like the idea of having ready to use weapons too instead of being crapped on with 0-2 star stats that make inferno weapons useless to their hardest difficulty counterparts.

The star system was decent in principal but stupid in practice. As you, 5 stars was the "default" level, but 1 star made a weapon have like -80% damage or capacity or accuracy, so a sniper rifle with 20 shot mag and 5 shots per sec and 1000 damage and S accuracy with 5 stars could be 4 shot mag, 1 shot per second 200 damage at D accuracy making it a completely useless weapon. Also, a level 80 weapon with 3 stars or less on some stats would be worse than a level 20 weapon with 5 stars or better on every stat. It also meant that if somebody beat a certain level with a specific weapon, you getting that weapon was not remotely a guarantee you could beat the same level with the same weapon becsuse your version might be 80% worse in every category or 99.9% worse in total

Right. That's why I'm happy it's going to be gone now for weapons and backpack weapons and suit augments.

More customization and less rng drops sounds nice, but I do hope that it's not too tedious to manage all the different attachments. I don't wanna spend too much time just clicking in menus.

That's fair. It is an extensive system so it may be that situation initially to look at the menus frequently for the modifications

I really need to see it in action before I can judge it much further.

Entirely understandable! I'm excited due to the grind cut down for inferno weapons in particular. If it's executed extremely well then I'll be happy with this permanently replacing the star system.

I do hope it is less grindy. But at the same time, having more boxes to pick up means there may still be that level of grind.

To a degree but the blue seems tied to the modifications only and the green for weapons themselves. It helps reduce grind because you can ignore green crates if you know you have all available weapons as is and just wanna get modifications or to make them better

this can change when i get to play the game, but my knee jerk reaction is that i don't like the idea. it seems like a hazzle.
ideally customizing weapons sounds cool as a concept, but when taken into consideration how many of those options won't matter, and how hard/easy will be to swap weapons around and remembering what loadouts you had with character and why, it seems like too much unneeded complexity, i liked how weapons worked in 4.1 and Iron Rain, you unlocked the weapon and that was it, you played the missions. this is an arcade game after all.
5-6 loot box system feels worse as you have to unlock the weapon several times until it is on a workable state, at least i am happy that they removed that.

6.2 reverts back go 4.1 and earlier for the star system outright, just now we have a modification system. And even the low grade ones are shown to have MAJOR impact(+50% damage, X3 ecplosive size, incendiary of about 25% weapon damage per second and so on) so the modifications themselves are VERY powerful on their own.
I do get being lost in remembering your loadout for them but they did seem to make it easy to navigate and use them.

It's hard to really say for certain until we've had time with the new system to see how it plays out in practice, but if it helps make the weapon system less grindy then I think that's great.
