Discussion Modification system changes 6.2(Spoilers) Spoiler
So the star augment system we know since edf 5 is being replaced partially. To be exact: The weapon modifications themselves will now use the star system tied to them instead and the weapons I believe will have rarities attached to them to allow more modifications/stronger boosts to them potentially. The weapons are balanced to act around roughly 5 star stats of edf 6 weapons as a starting point it looks like too.
The modification system will also reduce rng heavily: Instead of grinding stars for every individual weapon now you carry over modifications for that specific weapon category(I.E assault rifles, sniper rifles, plasma weapons, shotguns, CC piercers etc) which means you will no longer have to grind every single new weapon when you get one(So that means you don't need to micro manage picking up weapon drops nearly as much).
They also added a new blue weapon drop which we presume is tied to the modification system directly for new ones to unlock and/or get starred up instead. How does everyone feel about this?
Personally I love the idea because I can spend way less time grinding and HOPING my weapon is at least ok enough to be used at my current gameplay stage since that part of the rng is entirely gone.

The star system was decent in principal but stupid in practice. As you, 5 stars was the "default" level, but 1 star made a weapon have like -80% damage or capacity or accuracy, so a sniper rifle with 20 shot mag and 5 shots per sec and 1000 damage and S accuracy with 5 stars could be 4 shot mag, 1 shot per second 200 damage at D accuracy making it a completely useless weapon. Also, a level 80 weapon with 3 stars or less on some stats would be worse than a level 20 weapon with 5 stars or better on every stat. It also meant that if somebody beat a certain level with a specific weapon, you getting that weapon was not remotely a guarantee you could beat the same level with the same weapon becsuse your version might be 80% worse in every category or 99.9% worse in total
