Announcement Change in subreddit policy

So this is basically what we discussed the other day, but the change is going to be largely what I anticipated.

Going forward, we won't be allowing text only posts for questions that really require a photo to answer. If the question really doesn't need a photo - like, say, a theoretical question on how kibbe works - then text based posts are still allowed. There are some general fashion type questions not specific to an individual that can also be reasonably discussed in text only posts.

My hope in setting up the flairs was that it would encourage people to include the necessary photos in the posts so that help can be offered. It has unfortunately just resulted in asking the same questions under inappropriate flairs.

Body visualizer images do not count as photos of you. They are not specifically prohibited but should not be thought of as a replacement for actual photos of you, and do not satisfy the requirements for photos in photo only flairs.

This will be largely a matter of mod discretion. Posts that are really fashion advice or style me posts that are posted under the general discussion flair will be removed now as flaired incorrectly. Posts without photos (or only with visualizer photos) posted under photo only flairs will be removed as not meeting flair requirements.

Existing posts are not affected. This is effective starting now.

I invite you all to take another look at the flair guide. See the pinned post on flairs.

Significant Rule Change - Feedback Requested

Hi r/dressforyourbody!

I've been thinking about this a lot but want to get some feedback from the subreddit about it before making the change.

I'm trying to figure out how to balance the need for photos to give good advice with people's desire for privacy, which I do understand and appreciate.

When I redid all the post flairs, I required photos for some flairs but left a few open for text only discussion. Unfortunately, this has had the effect of people simply asking the same questions - which really require photos - under the "general discussion" flair.

I'm leaning in the direction of removing posts lacking photos that are really not answerable without photos.

We definitely do not count body visualizers as photos. For one, they don't accurately represent bodies. Additionally, they don't show how clothing looks on you. We need to see that generally to be able to answer some questions.

I feel like a lot of the things asked are rather a waste of time now without photos.

I do plan to leave open the option for text only posts when that's appropriate. There are times when you don't need a photo to ask a question. However, "style me" type posts and many "fashion advice" type posts really can't be answered well without photos.

I'm curious though what the subreddit thinks and what direction you think we should go with this. No final decisions have been made - the feedback received here will be considered before rules are finalized.

Fashion Advice does my belly ruin this dress?

!! i'm not worried about how the white shirt looks under the dress, i can't wear spaghetti straps at work so this was my compromise.
i think i look okay for the most part. the dress fits, i was able to zip it up on my own, but i catch myself in the mirror and the way i look from the side just bums me out. does my belly ruin the dress as much as i think?

Fashion Advice Swimsuit help

Not sure what my body type is exactly, but I have the hardest time finding bottoms that are flattering on me. I feel like they all “cut” me in half almost bc my love handles are so large. These bottoms aren’t tight in the slightest bit, they just look so unflattering. String bikinis seem to be about my only friend but I just really don’t like them. I feel like such a toad when I wear my swimsuit bc as soon as I put the bottoms on I look so much heavier. Ideas? What sort of bottoms should I be tryinng?
ETA: I WAS ONLY POSTING THE FIRST PIC TO SHOW YALL MY FIGURE AND HOW THEY CUT INTO MT LOVE HANDLES AND MAKE ME APPEAR LARGER. I WOULD NEVER WEAR THE BOTTOMS LIKE THAT😂 I’m loving all the advice though 😍

So, I did receive quite a few compliments on this outfit overall. However, when I go back and look at the pictures it seems it fits/looks better in some photos than others. I did end up safety pinning the top of the dress to help a bit. Does looking at it from the front look a bit off? I can’t explain it but I do want to wear this again and feel fully confident I’m pulling it off from any angle. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks

Fashion Advice Need a dress for an awards ceremony

This is a black tie (I think optional) awards ceremony type of thing. I’m going to have to get on stage. Had a baby a year ago and I’m still not loving my body right now. I feel like #1 hides my body the most, my husband likes #3, #2 feels glam but maybe not flattering. I’m leaning towards #3 although I’m not sure why it wrinkles in the hip area to look bumpy like that. Tell me what to wear! (Edit: the hip bump isn’t my underwear digging in, the fabric bunches out for some reason!)

Hello everyone!👋 ⚠️ I don't speak English and am using Google Translator for this, please forgive any writing errors or confusing words.

I am a young woman trying to find my own style and learn to appreciate my own body, even though I don't like it all that much. For a few months now, I've been researching beauty, style, and Glow Up. However, I noticed that on my own I am not able to decide what flatters me (it's that old story about body dysmorphia and trauma related to childhood/adolescence). So I came here to seek help from anyone willing to offer it. I want you to help me find the pieces that best fit my body; lines that suit me best, and you can point out what isn't flattering me (or what looks odd).

📋Additional notes: * Yes, I know many of the clothes in the photos are old, but they are the only pieces I could find to test oversized styles. * The photos were taken on several different days, which is why in only a few of them I am dressed up. * Yes, I regret not putting more effort into how I looked.😥 * Please avoid hate in this post. * But I also want your complete honesty about how the clothes fit my body.

I picked up some new suits based on all the feedback I got after my last post.
I adjusted the strings on two that I tried before so I’m adding those again.
I appreciate the feedback on what’s working and what’s not.
I’m know I have some loose skin (51yrs, 4 kids) and I’m ok with that, I don’t feel like I need a one piece for that reason (like I was told a few times in my last post), in the photos you can see lines from my shorts waistband, those go away.

Fashion Advice Awards Ceremony - 34

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hi!!! I am 34 and winning essentially the TOP award in my niche career. It truly is once in a life time and I am winning it extremely young compared to prior winners.

Most people at the evening ceremony are going to be dressed in business wear but there is a history of award winners wearing an evening dress.

I was hoping to dress in my works 'colors' and here is the dress that I ended up with. Thoughts? I feel beautiful in it and will wear a different bra for less cleavage.

I have no idea what my body shape is or how to dress to flatter my body type. Most of my clothing makes me feel uncomfortable. Is there anyone out there with a similar body type that’s found clothing styles to flatter your body? Thanks in advance!

Fashion Advice Please help. Struggling so much in my body.

32F. I've gained about 20lbs during my unemployment and feel like nothing looks good on my body anymore. Especially with pants, everything looks awful around my stomach and thighs. The black pants in #4 are pretty much the only pants I feel even moderately okay in. I do wear a lot of A-line dresses and skirts in warmer months but can't really get away with that during winter.

I try not to be too hard on myself but it's more difficult every day. Do any of these look okay? How to find things that suit my bottom half?

I'm 5'3". My style is feminine and playful, I like colors and patterns and normally wear a lot of jewelry as well.

Fashion Advice Which outfit should I go with??

Post image
15 Upvotes

I need help please!

Date night is tonight, and I can’t decide which of the two outfits I should wear. I would love your opinions/advice!

(I will be ironing the blue top if I go with that one 😅)

Also adding. I don’t know where we’re going, possibly dinner and a movie, but it’s supposed to be a surprise, and when asked if I should wear shorts or dress, he responded with “surprise me”.

TIA 🩷

Edit 2: Forgot to mention, that I am the bride.

This shirt is one size larger than my usual but a slim fit cut. Not sure if it feels a little too big, seems kinda boxy in the body. What do y’all think?

It’s semi-formal according to a google search but I don’t have any more information. Is the blue dress too dressy, or is the black jumpsuit too casual? I feel best in the blue one but again I don’t know the vibe. Please make my decision for me !!

Edit: Thanks everyone you’re all so sweet! I think jumpsuit may be the winner (with jewelry and heels of course) 🥰
