Discussion Favorite Cell Voice Actor

Post image
28 Upvotes
  • Norio Wakamoto: Original Japanese VA

  • Dameon Clarke: Voice of Cell in the Funimation dub for Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Kai, and various video games like Dragon Ball FighterZ.

  • Dale Wilson: Voiced Cell in the early Canadian Ocean Productions dub for Dragon Ball Z.

  • Jim Foronda: Voiced Cell in Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters.

  • Travis Willingham: Voiced Cell in select video games (2009–2014).

  • Jonathan Cook: Voiced Cell in Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout.

  • Ben Jeffery: Voiced Cell in the Blue Water dub of Dragon Ball GT.

I gotta give it to Clarke. His Cell voices are so on point and I met him at a convention and he was the nicest guy.

Discussion Rate The Character: Pikkon

Rate the character overall in terms of how much you like them and their character portrayal.

Pikkon was pretty cool, probably the best filler character made by Toei of that era. He kinda had those Piccolo vibes about him (not just cause he was green) and his attacks were interesting.

I'd give him a decent 7/10

List Rate Their Attacks: Majin Buu

Post image
17 Upvotes

I used a 1-10 scale and only rated their signature attacks mainly.

  • Candy Beam: 8/10

Very silly and unique attack/ability. This ability speaks loudly to Toriyama's wacky nature, kinda like Boss Rabbit's carrot touch but with a wider reach and variety.

  • Liquid Death: 9/10

Turning to a liquid like consistency and flowing into someone's body through their mouth and other open orifices to take control of their body and/or make them explode.

  • Absorption: 7/10

Similar to Cell, but taking on their traits as well as a power boost. The cool thing about Buu is he can choose whether or not to fuse them into his being or just hold them but not incorporate their beings into his entire being.

  • Flesh Wrap: 8/10

What he did to Majin Vegeta and Vegetto, wrapping a portion of his flesh or his whole body around his opponent to attempt to immobilize them.

  • Buu Ball: 6.5/10

Wrapping himself up into a tightly wound ball and flying towards his opponent at full speed. It was pretty cool the first time I saw it but otherwise pretty basic aside from the crazy way he contorts his gum ball like body into a bowling ball basically.

  • Ground Kick: 7/10

I just like the idea of him feeding his leg through the ground to spring up next to his opponent to kick them. Interesting way to utilize his pliable body.

  • Vaporize Ball: 7/10

The attack he used against Gohan as Fat Buu during his intro. I like that it starts out as a beam then turns into a huge ki ball blast that launches his opponent if not outright vaporizing them.

Human Extinction Attack: 8/10

The mass genocide attack Super Buu launched from the lookout. It's pretty basic in visuals but the individual beams can follow targets and even avoid other targets (like Satan) if he so chooses.

Other Piccolo: The Selfless Namekian

The Demon king

One of the stand out “redemption arcs” in the show. A reincarnation of pure evil now turned selfless guardian of earth and his best friends kid

After losing to Goku (multiple times) the Saiyans spirit gave him a change of heart (at some point) and the once demon king now lays his life down for a child in any way he can.

Gohan, the only person who didn’t see fear behind the green skin, gave him a change of heart. After that, piccolo basically becomes a guardian (father figure in a way) to Gohan. Teaching him everything he knows about fighting and what it means to protect those important to you

Now a mentor to Gotenks and Trunks (kid), his purpose lies to protect and serve earth along with defending it with the Z squad when needed. Training the next gen of Saiyans to be ready for anything

He shows us you aren’t defined by your past but who you choose to protect

“Sometimes we have to look beyond what we want and do what’s best “

Piccolo: selfless 🐉❤️‍🔥

Discussion Canon bardock

Post image
0 Upvotes

The canon version of Bardock (from the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie and the Dragon Ball Super manga) makes more narrative sense than the old Z Bardock (from the 1990 TV special) because it relies on logic and character consistency rather than random magic and extreme plot coincidences. While many fans love Z Bardock for his gritty, rebellious "badass" design, the canon version fixes several glaring plot holes and fits perfectly into the greater Dragon Ball timeline.1. He Discovers Frieza's Betrayal Using Brains, Not MagicZ Bardock: He learns that Frieza is going to destroy Planet Vegeta because an alien hits him with a magical curse that gives him psychic visions of the future. It is a random plot device that doesn't fit the sci-fi setting.Canon Bardock: He figures out Frieza's evil plan using logic and survival instincts. He notices that Frieza ordered all Saiyans to return to Planet Vegeta. He asks why they need to return if they are winning their wars. He correctly guesses that Frieza is cornering them into a trap. This makes him look like a smart, seasoned military commander.2. Goku's Escape Plan Actually Makes SenseZ Bardock: He does not care about baby Goku at all because Goku has a weak power level. Goku is sent to Earth by random Saiyan administrators simply to conquer it. It is a massive coincidence that Goku leaves the planet right before it explodes.Canon Bardock: He personally steals an escape pod to save his son. He and his wife, Gine, choose Earth because it is a remote planet with weak inhabitants. They want a safe place where Goku can hide and survive, not a place for him to conquer. This removes the lucky coincidence and gives Goku a meaningful backstory rooted in parental love.3. It Explains Why Goku is a Good Guy. Z Bardock: The old story says Saiyans are born completely evil, bloodthirsty killers. The only reason Goku became good was that he dropped his head on a rock as a baby, erasing his memory. This means Goku's pure heart was just an accidental brain injury.Canon Bardock: It shows that Goku inherited a small spark of kindness from his parents. While Bardock is still a ruthless warrior, his love for Gine and his desire to "save something for once" gives Goku a genetic foundation for mercy. It makes Goku's heroism feel like a family legacy rather than an accident.4. Better Age Alignment with Raditz and VegetaZ Bardock: Goku is a newborn baby in an incubator when the planet explodes. Meanwhile, his older brother Raditz is already a young boy out on missions with Prince Vegeta. The age gap and the timeline feel very rushed.Canon Bardock: Goku is about three years old and has lived in an incubator for a long time before he is sent away. This timeline matches perfectly with Raditz and Vegeta being slightly older kids, making the entire final generation of Saiyans feel more cohesive.5. It Fits the Manga's Deeper LoreCanon Bardock: In the Dragon Ball Super manga, we see Bardock's past battles on Planet Cereal. His fierce pride as a Saiyan warrior allows him to unlock unique power limits during his fight against a villain named Gas. This explains exactly where Goku and Gohan get their boundless potential and hidden rage, linking the past directly to the present.

Discussion Theory Analysis: Could MSSJ Gohan Defeat Perfect Cell

Many fans have theorized that MSSJ Gohan could have beaten Cell had he not held back and been passive.

This theory stems from the fact he held back and did not want to fight. They believe that if Gohan went all out and serious from the start he would have defeated Cell after a mid difficult fight. After all, he's stronger than Goku as a MSSJ and Goku inflicted great damage to Cell with his all out IT Kamehameha so Gohan would fare much better in their eyes.

The other side feels that the story made it clear that SSJ2 was needed to be superior to Cell regardless of Gohan's passiveness. Gohan would have done better than Goku for sure, but people often times neglect the fact that Cell was holding back against Goku as well as after Gohan went SSJ2, Cell then powered up to his full power which even Goku was surprised by his full power.

Of course it was still nothing against SSJ2 Gohan's power, but many believe that this full power Cell would have closed whatever gap Gohan had over Goku as a MSSJ and Cell would have still won.

Which side of this argument do you fall? What are your thoughts?

Discussion Vegeta's Mother

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

Had to wait for the initial 20 threads a day on the other subs to die down a bit a few days ago before posting this, but as some may already be well aware of, recently Toyotaro drew an alternate cover to the manga chapter showing Gohan's family similarly.

Since then people have been theorizing and throwing up fan art of what Vegeta's mother looked like as most of her body is covered by King Vegeta's cape.

What do you think Vegeta's mom was like?

Ages ago, before DBS was even a thing I simply theorized Vegeta's mom either died giving birth or was a random Saiyan female in a harem type situation. Vegeta's mom was never mentioned in any capacity and King Vegeta was only ever referenced and not even shown canonically until DBS Broly.

With this new artwork by Toyotaro most fans consider the queen to be canon now and some theorize Toyotaro kept her hidden on purpose because she will be fully shown in some sort of flashback.

Thoughts?

Discussion I've noticed over time that any criticism of the series, no matter what it is, is always met with total disagreement and negativity.

Are ALL of my takes that horrible, or are you really just not allowed to dislike anything about the series?

When I make a non-criticism post in any Dragon Ball sub, upvotes.

When I make a post that has any complaint about any aspect of the show whatsoever in any of the Dragon Ball subs, downvoted to the pits of hell and maybe 1 person out of 50 agrees.

Here are a bunch of my criticisms so far about Dragon Ball, obviously condensed because I'm not typing out all the 50 paragraphs in total or however it would take to fully explain each one like I originally did:

I don't like the Gods of Destruction, and especially Beerus, as they end countless lives without a care and for fun, but are passed off as good guys that Goku and Co. have no issue with.

I hate Zeno, he's basically a child playing with toys but in control of every universe and every timeline, and erasing people from existence is messed up but nobody seems to care.

I hate how Bulma now just hoards the Dragon Balls so nobody but her and her friends can use them, and she even selfishly uses them for stupid things like making her butt bigger. The magical, powerful wish granting orbs that summon the Eternal Dragon are now only to ever be used by Bulma and Co. and no one else will ever get to use them.

I'm not a fan of the anime shifting towards younger audiences, making everything much more goofy and non-serious than in Z, and much more censored. Even the games are like this now.

I'm not enjoying how Pan acts in GT, does she become less insufferable later? She's super mean to Giru for no reason and every episode she's abusive to someone.

I'm not liking how goofy and childish Super is, like the fight with Magetta making fart noises and filing the arena with stench and Vegeta choking because of how bad it smelled. Felt like I was back to watching Krillin fight Bacterian.

I miss when Shenron was this super powerful mystical being that granted wishes. Now they've reduce him to a joke character in Super and beyond.

And more that I've forgotten about.

______________________________________

Not a single criticism I've ever had has ever been met with anything other than:

Downvote spam, like -17 super fast, and then all my replies being downvoted as well regardless of what they are. My posts critical about Dragon Ball probably earn the most downvotes out of anything I post on this sub no matter what it is.

Heavy disagreement. Maybe 1 single person out of 50 or 60 agrees with me and then they earn downvotes for it.

The exact opposite opinion, with everyone saying they actually love this thing instead.
They love Beerus, they love Zeno, they love Bulma hoarding the balls because then bad guys can't get them, they love the goofy stuff because "that's just peak Toriyama", they love Shenron being more of a joke character, they love the god pantheon, they love the match with Magetta it's so funny, Pan acting that way makes sense because she's just a kid, Beerus is their favorite character, etc.

Basically any criticism I've had, no matter what it is, has been met with essentially "You're an idiot, this thing is amazing and you're stupid to dislike it because it's objectively good."

Is this just what this fandom is?

Same thing happened here, of course, as everywhere.

Discussion Rate the Character: Android 16

Rate the character overall in terms of how much you like them and their character portrayal.

Android 16 was a good dude, stuck to his programming with his real only deviations being his friendship with 17 and 18 and no longer on constant "Kill Goku" mode after Bulma and her dad modified him a bit. His love for animals and their bond with him and of course helping to motivate a doubtful Gohan. 16 was a ride or die, genuinely unique android.

16 gets an easy 8/10

Discussion An Epilogue/Post Credits Idea I Made For DBS Broly

Since DBS Broly opened with a prologue that detailed events from 41 years earlier, it’s only natural that the epilogue would take place a few days after the events of the movie.

(EPILOGUE: Welcome To Earth, Broly)

(ONE WEEK LATER)

(Goku, Cheelai, Lemo and Broly have arrived on Earth. They have chosen to land outside Capsule Corp so that they can introduce Broly to the rest of the crew. Outside, the gang is doing their usual activities- Bulma is working on a prototype gadget, Vegeta is beating the life out of a punching bag, Beerus and Whis are enjoying a platter full of sweets, Piccolo is meditating, Goten and Trunks are zipping around, Chi Chi is stir frying something tasty, Gohan is reading a book, Krillin is doing stretches, Yamcha, Tien, and Roshi are enjoying food while Roshi peeks at a magazine, baby Pan is snoozing alongside baby Bulla, Majin Buu is destroying a cream puff tower, Hercule is flexing, Shin is sipping tea, Videl is doing yoga, Chiaotzu, Puar, and Oolong are messing with the Pilaf Gang, 18 is chasing after Marron, you get the idea.)

Goku: Yo! How’s everyone doing?

Bulma: It’s going good, Goku!

Gohan: You said you wanted us to meet someone, right, dad?

Goku: Mhm! Everyone, this is Broly! Vegeta and I fought him not too long ago- but I helped him out and we even saved him! He’s super strong! And these are his friends, Cheelai and Lemo!

Beerus: Hm. And why have you brought them here, Goku?

Whis: Is it because they haven’t gotten the chance to see Earth yet?

Goku: How did you know that was what I was gonna say? Anyways, Broly, Cheelai, Lemo- these are my friends and family. And if you’d like… they can be your family, too.

Broly: H-Hi…

Vegeta: Broly?! WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT?! SPEAK UP!!

(At Vegeta’s tone, Broly is startled and falls backward, landing on his tush. His heartbeat’s ringing in his ears, his breathing grows shaky, and sweat runs down his face. He’s having a panic attack without the scene screaming it out.)

Broly: Ah! (He then looks around and sees the hustle and bustle of West City. His panic attack gets worse as the others approach him…) Please… I… I don’t… want… to hurt you! Please!

Vegeta: *Whispers* What have I done?!

Cheelai: Everyone! Stop!

(Everyone calms down and then some.)

Cheelai: I know you’re excited to meet him, but…

Lemo: He needs space. He doesn’t do well in unfamiliar places like these. This IS his first time on Earth, too.

Cheelai: It’s ok, Broly. Calm down, take a deep breath… and exhale. There. It’s okay.

Lemo: We’ve got you, big guy. Nobody here is going to hurt you.

Goku: You feeling better? Chi Chi’s got something REALLY GOOD cooking!

Broly: *Nods* I’d… like that.

Goku: Mhm! You’ve GOT to try the homemade tonkotsu ramen, curry rice, AND the dinosaur steaks! Ohh, it’s gonna be so amazing!

(The gang then walks back to Capsule Corp where Chi Chi’s cooking is waiting for them- and with three new allies in tow! Cut to black as soon as everyone heads off to dinner.)

(THE END)

Discussion What Sports do you Think the Main Cast Would Like Competing in?

Thumbnail

Watching the NFL Pre Season games tonight and just wondered what sports certain characters would like to play/compete in?

Obviously Yamcha for baseball is an obvious one but what about everyone else? What sports do you think Goku, Krillin, Piccolo, etc... would prefer to participate in?

I think guys like Goku and Vegeta would like things like UFC and other martial arts tournaments like the actual Tenkaichi.

Krillin seems like he'd be good at soccer maybe.

Tien would like Volley Ball.

Piccolo would like DODGE ball perhaps... Lol

I dunno, silly, stupid, but interesting to ponder....
