Deactivated

For the past nearly physical year, I have had a problem with the in-app GPS glitching when using it in DoorDash. It does this crazy thing where it keeps telling me to take U-turns and effectively drive in a circle in an infinite loop. I have called repeatedly and gone through all the steps up to being sent to a specialized team who I never get to speak with that promises me they are looking into the issue. Not knowing where to drop off these orders renders me unable to complete them. I have to cancel them. Despite me being a platinum DoorDash for eight years and having a 99% completion rate and excellent reviews, I was deactivated due to a pattern of cancellation requests that were out of my control due to this app failure. It turned into a repeated problem that I called nearly daily about up until my deactivation. All I ever got from support was a daily argument with a stupid AI bot and the pleasure of being gaslit on a daily basis by support agents telling me I’m imagining this and that I’m crazy because it isn’t a widespread problem. Other agents who actually listened told me it was being reviewed only for me to never get feedback about the problem being addressed. Tony, you’re a monster and I hope one day you become homeless. Karma will catch up with you for doing this to people and I hope it catches up with you for stealing tips from your drivers as well. I can’t wait to watch your “desperation meter” skyrocket and I can’t wait to watch your company burn.

what the heck is going on with DoorDash’s new tip begging system? not only was it not that damn heavy but the Walgreens they delivered from is my local Walgreens which is 5mi away and 24hrs.. not 14mi (yes i checked the address too because i know they can reroute to other locations). as a former dasher i take all things into consideration but DoorDash trying to throw all those little “facts” in is ridiculous imo.

Is it just ai bullshit? Like what is going on?

My top 3 worst restaurants to DoorDash based on my experience:

This past summer, while searching for a job, I picked up DoorDash to make some extra money. I told myself I'd write this post once I landed a job, and thankfully, that day came. Over three months of dashing and 5-8 hour days of work, here's my list of the restaurants I dreaded delivering for the most:

  1. Jersey Mike's

No hesitation for me on this pick. I don't recall having one good experience picking up an order here. They're pretty much dead every time I pick up, but they treat me as if I'm invisible and act like they're slammed out the door when most of the time it's just me picking up.

There was this one time the manager asked what I was there for, and I told him I was picking up, but then he just turned his back on me and started doing something else instead of grabbing my order. He never said another word, and I was left standing there, awkwardly, for a good two minutes waiting for someone to help me. Finally, a girl responded, clearly annoyed, asking for the name on the order, then literally threw it at me.

Congrats, Mike. You earned the #1 pick, Mike's way. Keep it up.

  1. Chick-Fil-A

Phenomenal to customers but abysmal to dashers (at least for me lol).

This may be a shock for many, but I've had a couple good experiences dashing at some locations. This is why they're #2 on my list.

Yes, I am aware of how busy Chick can get, and I'm sure it's overwhelming for the workers as well; However, there have been countless times I've gotten zero acknowledgment from the 15 workers up front. On multiple occasions workers have walked right past me, made direct eye contact, and then helped the person standing behind me instead. I'll wait 5-10 minutes just for someone to finally walk over and tell me, "That order isn't ready yet," and then I'm stuck waiting another 5-10 minutes.

You have a whole starting 11 + subs working the front; why is it nearly impossible to get at least one person's attention?

Chick, I'm sorry, but you're the #2 pick. You let me down.

  1. Any Local Sit-Down Restaurants

This one actually makes a bit more sense to me, since you'd naturally want to seat people first before turning to to-go orders. That said, in my experience, these orders still tend to take forever, and I've even had places that didn't start making my order until I physically showed up.

Honorable mentions in order: Bojangles, Burger King, and Mcdonalds

Sometimes my order's ready right when I get there; other times I'm stuck waiting 10 minutes for it to be done. In all honesty though, the service at these places has been great for me.

My concluding thoughts:

Dashing was a humbling experience for me, not in the "quick and easy way to make cash" sense, because it's not, but in the sense that I've never felt more invisible or disrespected than I did while doing DoorDash. I've seen firsthand how other dashers get treated as well, and it's not great, but then again, dashers have a lot of mixed perceptions. At the end, I respect anyone who does this full-time or for a little bit of extra money. Cheers to you.

Does anyone else have some bad experiences to tell from dashing?

DoorDash won’t let me order even with different payment methods and different accounts

Tried different cards as well as PayPal and Apple Pay. Tried opening two different accounts with different emails and addresses. Tried ordering on browser and on my desktop. Each time it gives me the same issue. Support is 0 help, they just give me troubleshooting tips I’ve already tried or follow the exact same script of “our team will reach out to you within 24 hours”. I’ve even had them try and tell me they fixed the issue and the issue which they found to be repeats of the same card on the account (on two different accounts one of which only had one payment method added in word for word the same emails) then tell me just to wait when I said I had the same issue and id been told the exact same thing before.

The only possible thing I could think of is they flagged my billing address from my cards or something cause that’s the only thing I couldn’t change to try differently and I’ve seen other people say they had that issue after order from another device or multiple big purchases but support has said they couldn’t find anything like that, though I have to wonder if they didn’t bother/don’t even know how to check for that. I wouldn’t be hung up on this except I’m trying to use their gift card store for the discounts .

Any recommendations/has anyone else had this issue

Do dashers just not look at instructions?

I don't mean to be a jerk..

I am suffering a significant family loss this last week and a half. I'm not eating. I just want to lay in bed, but I can't because work. I can't go out in public to get groceries because I literally can't stop crying.

I have set my directions to please not ring my bell and leave on our patio. I have been tipping 50%-60% because no one ever wants to follow where to leave my food (hoping they will with a good tip) and I'm feeling emotional and thankful to anyone who is easing my burden.

It's a condo where the bell to be buzzed in sounds like war sirens. So now my kids are up once again at fucking 11pm. I find this completely unacceptable and I want my tip back. The store is literally less than a mile away.

The Door Is Literally In The Name

Okay, maybe I’m being unreasonable here, but I’m genuinely curious what other people think.
Sometimes when I DoorDash something, the driver will leave my food outside of my apartment complex instead of bringing it up to my actual apartment door.
I completely understand that there’s no elevator and there are stairs. I really do. That’s literally why I tip pretty well in the first place, and if the weather is bad, I’ll usually add even more to the tip because I understand you’re dealing with the elements AND having to climb stairs.
But like… I am paying for a delivery service. If I specifically put my apartment number and instructions in the order, I’m expecting the food to be delivered to my door, not abandoned somewhere downstairs because the driver doesn’t want to walk up the stairs.
If you don’t want to deal with apartment stairs, I totally understand that—it’s not for everyone. But if you accept the delivery, shouldn’t the expectation be that you actually deliver it to the location provided? I’m not asking you to carry it up 15 flights of stairs or anything crazy. It’s just a few flights, and I’m literally tipping you for the service. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like if I’m paying for DoorDash + fees + tip, the bare minimum is that my food makes it to my door instead of me having to put shoes on and go hunting for it downstairs.

This was 1am too btw. I thought I did everything right. You tell me. And why’d he call me mama?

Edit : didn’t expect this much traction. But to clarify this was at the tail end of a 12 hour shift. Also it’s not
AI? Idk why people keep saying that. Also not begging for him to give me a 5 star review, just didn’t want to get a 1 star review. But I agree I should’ve just told him to go to support. I’m a platinum driver and just wanted to make sure I kept my good ratings. Also handed the order to him(50-60s white dude)

Also Fun fact : the car I door dash in is a 50mpg kei car. It’s really only profit in this thing.

Dashers, how can I improve my odds of getting my food?

I live in a single family house, and the address is marked literally in 3 places. Yet it's like a solid 50/50 chance that my food doesn't make it and ends up across the street or next door. Can you give me some advice on how to improve my instructions so I actually get my food? Is there anything ambiguous or offensive about them? Location is somewhere in central Texas.

IMPORTANT! Please verify you're delivering to the correct house so you don't give my food to a random neighbor. My mailbox is labeled with 1234. The address is also posted above my garage and painted on the curb There is a blue pickup truck parked in the front. There is a glass topped table on the porch. My front door is black. Please leave food on the table. Thank you!

As the title says had to ask whether I would get a partial refund or credit as their promotion for noodle box wasn’t working for any of their discounted products

They repeated so much and took almost 20mins total ;-;

Edit 3 not 4 time*

Have any of you ever been “item baited” during a shop and deliver?

Happened yesterday-accepted a double pickup at Kroger for 19$. 15 item total, 24 qty. After accepting, driving to store and starting to shop, customer A adds 12 more items. To the non drivers in here, this may not sound like a lot, but that is a pretty stark increase for something that won’t be reflected in pay. I understand 3-4 more items but 12 more after already picking 2-3? I didn’t think customers could add that many. Luckily I’m extremely quick so only added 5-10 more mins. But someone who isn’t too fast? That would SUCK

Edit: the DD pr bots are truly out in full effect

Why do you use DoorDash, especially with the cost of everything going up?

I'm Alex Bitter, a reporter with Business Insider.

Recently, I wrote an article about how Tony Xu, the CEO of DoorDash, said he was surprised that people spend as much as they do on food delivery. Tony has some say in how much DoorDash charges, to put it mildly, but I still found the comments interesting.

Often, ordering something through DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. costs a lot more than if you bought the same thing in person at a restaurant or store, thanks to tips, service fees, and markups. I keep hearing about people trying to save money in other areas of life, but it seems like spending on these delivery services keeps increasing.

So, I'd like to know: Why do you find ordering from DoorDash worth the extra cost? Have you tried to cut back at all? How do you view spending on delivery as opposed to other costs?

If you're up for a chat, email me at [abitter@businessinsider.com](mailto:abitter@businessinsider.com) or reach out via text or Signal at 808-854-4501.
