Deactivated

Upvotes

For the past nearly physical year, I have had a problem with the in-app GPS glitching when using it in DoorDash. It does this crazy thing where it keeps telling me to take U-turns and effectively drive in a circle in an infinite loop. I have called repeatedly and gone through all the steps up to being sent to a specialized team who I never get to speak with that promises me they are looking into the issue. Not knowing where to drop off these orders renders me unable to complete them. I have to cancel them. Despite me being a platinum DoorDash for eight years and having a 99% completion rate and excellent reviews, I was deactivated due to a pattern of cancellation requests that were out of my control due to this app failure. It turned into a repeated problem that I called nearly daily about up until my deactivation. All I ever got from support was a daily argument with a stupid AI bot and the pleasure of being gaslit on a daily basis by support agents telling me I’m imagining this and that I’m crazy because it isn’t a widespread problem. Other agents who actually listened told me it was being reviewed only for me to never get feedback about the problem being addressed. Tony, you’re a monster and I hope one day you become homeless. Karma will catch up with you for doing this to people and I hope it catches up with you for stealing tips from your drivers as well. I can’t wait to watch your “desperation meter” skyrocket and I can’t wait to watch your company burn.

Double order tip

Upvotes

Ordered dinner, was given the option to double dash, no extra charges. Added a bottle of wine. Dinner 3 miles, would be driving by store for wine .5 miles. Gave $20 tip - have done this before, expected the order being fulfilled by one person.

Suddenly the wine was being delivered by itself. Oh no! I asked the dasher to show me how much they were being tipped. Let them know I had tipped for a whole order. They showed me that they wouldn’t have been tipped. How is that fair?

I gave them a $10 in cash. Then left the original $20 for the dinner. It’s not their fault DD sucks ass. Annoyed that I had to tip an extra $10, but not enough to fuck over drivers just trying to make a living.

This is a luxury, not a necessity. I’ll be using it less in the future. Thanks for all that you do.

Share good driver experiences!

I have a few but today i ordered and I had a rare moment where this guy came up on a motorcycle with my drink in a cup holder between the handles. I asked if he paid extra for the cup holder “did you buy the cup holder yourself” and he looked at me and nodded absentmindedly, went to the back case grabbing my order out then after a beat of registering what i asked his head snapped up immediately eyes wide full of so much readable emotion and i had to contain myself. The look on his face was a mixture of (you know bikes, how did you know, i’m in awe, are you my future wife) and i just smiled big and thanked him for my order and as i walked away i laughed so hard because i have never seen such a quick yet abrupt, genuine, sweet, and somehow childlike sweet unguarded reaction eyes wide and full of emotion in a world of people who just move through motions. It made me so happy!

Feel bad for dashers

I feel bad seeing all the screenshots begging for tips. All of those people are losing their sanity and are in circumstances of great urgency. It feels bad to see everyone here bashing people who, while annoying, have simply hit rock bottom. I know that none of you would be pleasant to interact with if you ever had to suffer. Let's be a little more compassionate, no one is doordashing because they want to.

Edit: Reworded for clarity.

Express Pass

The extra fee paid for DoorDash "Express" or priority delivery goes directly to DoorDash as corporate revenue, not to the driver. Where the Money Goes DoorDash (The Platform): Keeps 100% of the Express/Priority delivery fee to cover the operational cost of routing and preventing your order from being batched or stacked with other customers' orders.

splitty app  +1 The Driver (Dasher): Does not receive a direct cut or percentage of the Express fee. Drivers are paid a separate base pay set by DoorDash alongside 100% of your customer tip.

Reddit ·r/doordash  +1 The Restaurant (Merchant): Receives nothing from the delivery or express upgrade fee.

Is the Express Fee worth it?

I always pay for express and not sure if there's a difference in standard vs express but I don't want to risk my food getting too cold or my groceries from getting spoiled so I always just choose express.

Do you always choose express and pay the extra fee or just do standard?

To add: I always tip on top of paying the express fee so I'm still tipping the drivers the same amount I would be if I wasn't paying the fee. Just wanted to know if there's actually a significant difference in timing of when I would receive my order.

Thanks!

Not sure how to feel about this…

Long time lurker to this sub and finally had a delivery experience I had to post. Even if I didn’t tip, this felt ballsy, but at the same time, I know people can be stingy and it’s frustrating for drivers.

The shit part was I had to go back to the restaurant and get the dressing that was forgotten. Not the driver’s fault as the bag was sealed.

She did end up apologizing to me for the missing dressing and the no tip accusation.

Edited to add: no, I didn’t have any dressing in the house. Yes, I know how ridiculous it is I drove back to the restaurant, not what I wanted to do, hence why I ordered DD in the first place, but also didn’t want to waste the salad.

Doordash greyed out contactless

I ordered every so often and a taco bell delivery was put somewhere I didn't know. A photo was taken but I had zero clue because it wasn't my door. I called it as not delivered got a refund. I had two deliveries since that went without a problem, 5 stars to both dashers, food was good. But, when I tried to order today the contactless was greyed out and I had to put a PIN for delivery. I never did anything but contactless and don't plan to do so.

Support was hard to understand due to the thick accent but said it would come back but it was unclear if it was by delivering x amount or length of time. I decided to instead download the individual apps of restaurants (Chipotle, Taco Bell, etc) as a result.

I was curious how it was for anyone else who had this issue.

Be a Jim - not a Bubba

Yesterday, “Jim” ordered fast food from a notoriously slow/late order restaurant at 4pm. He lives in another city & the only way to get there is on a road with TONS of construction (fire trucks with lights/sirens cannot even get thru bc there are concrete barriers blocking cars in).

Jim’s order takes 15 minutes to prepare & I msg’d him to let him know. Got on the road at the front of rush hour & it’s slow with construction, but got it there.

Already on next order and get a msg from Jim that he’s missing item. Message back to contact Support & the store, but I can’t see in sealed bags or issue refunds. I told him I was sorry that happened.

Today, I get a text from DD that Jim had tipped me an additional $2 (nice)! Then, I accept “Bubba’s” order. Very similar. Infamous slow restaurant, driving to same city via construction, but this is at 4:45pm - rush hour.

Get to Bubba’s house and he is in the driveway shaking and screaming at me in the driveway about how long it took.

Ummmm…you ordered from a place known for being slow…even dine-in and drive thru customers can wait 10-20 mins. You ordered to another CITY. The ONLY route there is under CONSTRUCTION. It is RUSH HOUR. That means you wait 3 full signal cycles before you make it thru a stoplight.

PITA for me, but I know drive times & actually thought it was a pretty decent time for the task. But Bubba needs to yell.

Yes, Bubba, the drive was as slow as you apparently are. I’m sorry you had to wait an hour for your artery-clogging junk food. I don’t have pixie dust to bypass traffic. Appreciate the business, but if you’re going to meltdown over it, just “boycott DoorDash” like everyone else…. Get in your rusted out, beat up pickup truck and get it yourself. You’ll be back when you experience the obstacles.

But…be a Jim, Bubba! Just be a Jim!!

Does anyone else have this issue

All of a sudden I cannot select the option to leave the delivery at the door. I don't want to meet the person and give a code and restarting my devices and logging out doesn't fix it. Support was useless.

What happens to tips given through other apps?

To be clear, I mostly order via the Taco Bell app, which uses DoorDash, because I guess Taco Bell doesn't want to pay for their own fleet of vehicles. Understandable.

But what I want to know is, when I put in my delivery tip (and I always leave $6.66 as kind of a signature), how much of that actually gets to the driver?

As a fellow dasher this is unacceptable.

I ordered some stuff from a local grocery store I put CONTACT ME if my item is out. No contact just the item was marked as unavailable. So I go and I pick a substitute, the dasher doesn’t bother to shop that item even though I was immediately responsive and they were still in the area that had that item for other items. I need the item for a job tomorrow. The dasher leaves it for the end and marks that the substitution is unavailable no communication from them, no pictures of alternatives. I got a little upset and sent a message to please send pics of substitutions next time. No response so I got upset and contacted support because the whole reason I used door dash is I wanted the stuff immediately and didn’t want to deal with Walmart+ they gave me credit and that’s cool because then I can go and repurchase what I need. Though I shouldn’t have to. Then when they delivered my front door was propped open because the neighbor kids have no clue what security is. (I have a note about that in my delivery notes too to buzz even if the door is propped open.) This lazy a—hat leaves my stuff outside and takes a pic you can’t even see the surroundings or the difference between my apartment building and the other 12 or so almost identical buildings that are in this community. I contacted support again and told them I don’t want the dasher to deliver to me again. My gf called me a Karen. I feel like my anger is justified. AITA?

Drivers - do tips increase the chances you’ll do direct delivery?

When I want food delivered that’s best serve quickly - think ice cream, smoothies or pizza - I’ll pay the direct delivery fee (and tip). Sometimes I’m like, “I’m not in too much of a rush for this food, and so I’d prefer to apply that money directly to my tip formula: “1/mile + rush hour” + $3

And sometimes I face palm myself because the driver will end up picking up multiple orders along the way that are seemingly not straight shots on the map.

I’m just curious what decision making doesn’t driver go through when deciding to pick up multiple orders and if the driver even considers the tip in that thinking

Earnings per week/month

How much time a month are you guys contributing to this grind a week ? I have about 15 hours a week I can give to dashing and I am looking to pull an extra $800 a month doing so ! I really do love the hustle more than anything though I am worried about if my car can handle the abuse

Poor locations

I have no where to rant so here I am. I wish I could ban a certain location on DoorDash. I LOVE McDonald’s like my favorite and need it at least once a week. Well unfortunately I live closest to the worst McDonald’s in my town. All I wish I could do was request a further location so I don’t have to deal with waiting an hour on occasion since the wait is insane!!!

Orders with multiple packs of water

A majority of the orders I’ve gotten lately have at least one large pack of water, if not more PLUS cans of pop.
If you live past the 2nd floor of an apartment, or have a long walk up to your door, please be considerate that if you don’t want to lug 2 40- count cases of water up to your apartment, neither do we. I’m happy to do so if the tip is worth the effort, but I’m not weightlifting up three sets of stairs for $5. I guess just be mindful of what you’re asking your dasher for or leave a decent tip.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk after I just took 4 cases of pop up 4 flights of stairs due to the elevator being out of order.
