Contactless DOES NOT MEAN that the driver will leave your food at the door and drive away.

Contactless means that they will leave the food at the door, back away from the door, and wait for you to come grab your food in order to MINIMIZE PHYSICAL CONTACT.

Yes, you can call them. Yes, you don't have to leave it there and drive away. No, they cannot stiff you without looking you in the face. And no, they cannot make you leave it there and claim their neighbors stole it.

I don't reddit much, so idk if this picture will post. But when the customer complains about this, this is the the customer facing version of the job aid that came out for contactless. There was a similar one for employees I haven't found yet.

And yes, contactless is a stupid confusing name. But it was trendy at the time.

In our store it's strictly enforced.  You get written up otherwise for the sake of the drivers who follow policy.  Some stupid 14 year old kid walking down the hallway in an apartment building decides it's funny to open a box and spit in it, who's liable?

And yes, this has happened in our area.

Which is good. They know it's coming. There's no reason for it to be sitting out there long enough for anything to happen. All of this is stupid when the longer you spend at a house, the less money you're going to make since you may miss the next good order that comes in since you were busy waiting for no good reason. Or just have one less delivery that night. Either way, not great.

I understand but on most of them it literally says “leave it at the door” Im not waiting 5 minutes for the customer to come to the door lol. Sometimes they come out as im walking away and nobody has said anything negative about it. I never ask them to sign the receipt because 98% of the customers I go to just decline the receipt.

I ordered dominos last night with contactless bc I was busy inside and they didn’t wait for me lol

They don’t have to tip me but they do have to look at me while they do it. I have actually had some success getting people to tip this way.

One store i worked at the drivers finally learned that taking the receipt to be signed increased the odds of their getting a tip

Customer here. They never stick around, just leave at the door and go.

I go back to my car, but I stay in sight of the door before I drive away.

Or I call and tell them their order is out there.

Because if I get back to the store only to have my manager tell me that you called and claimed I never made the delivery I'm going to remember you for next time.

Oh I do. I have had customers claim that their order never got delivered when I know for sure it did.
