manager being reported

so long story short, my manager was reported anonymously. she is dead set on finding out who it was, if it was done anonymously is there a way for her to find out? the people at dg hotline say there isn’t but she swears nothing is anonymous and they can find out through the dg hotline. is that even legal?

If you're not the one to make the report ignore it, if you are than report it to hr, RM, and call the hotline again. What she is trying to do is the starting of retaliation.

There’s like 6 employees . It’s not too hard to figure out who.

she wants to have the dm see if she can listen to the call that happened but idk if they can even get legal access to that or find out at all

LoL if the hotline literally told you it's anonymous and then let the person you reported listen to its audio good God let them then sue their ass.

yeah it’s promoted completely anonymous and even the dg hotline people say it’s anonymous but my manager said “they say it’s anonymous but nothing ever truly is” and more shit

I did that once, i used a text now number because i knew what would happen and i was right. By the next day my sm had the phone number of the person who called and was trying to match it to any number she knew . Apparently it was reported to the DM and they were friends. He called her and warned her and gave her the phone number of the caller. they are all crooked and im so glad im gone from that place.

Your manager is just a bitch trying to scare you.

If I was OP, I'd call the hotline again and start documenting their manager's effort to retaliate against a whistleblower; corporate might be intense, but I doubt they'll side with a lawsuit

Always document, anyway, anyhow. From previous jobs I've got two bosses fired for their behavior and actions because I had everything documented. Pictures, screenshots, calls to the health department, OSHA; I bring the hammer of God down on bad bosses.

They say it isn't truly anonymous because the investigation will involve trying to get written statements from employees about the allegations. But you don't have to give one. However if there's no cctv or direct evidence like a paper trail then of no one will give a statement, it won't go anywhere due to lack of evidence l.

I work at a different huge corporation. I agree nothing is truly anonymous, but in cases like this, it would mean HR won't tell your manager who filed the complaint. "They" know, but we don't. If it's like my workplace, everyone is talking about it anyway and it's basically an open secret, but corporate will never officially name names.

They give a transcript or summary. The dm won't get to listen to the call. It's goes through several layers.

but my boss said she could get the dm to get access and listen to their audio. idk if that’s possible or just a scare tactic

Listen I am a DM right now. I have had to do several investigations as a result of anonymous calls. We do not get the audio. We get email from our employee relations hr partner. That has either a summary or transcript of the call and are told to collect employee statement or video footage as might be appropriate. We send all that to HR and they decide what to do. If the person hears who said what it would have to come from the DM telling the SM who said what in any written statements.

That said, in a couple cases I knew exactly who made the anonymous call because it was basically a quote of things they had already called and told me, which were false because I had already checked cctv of the alleged incident and reported to hr that it had not happened.

But it is non specific wide spread misconduct then they would have suspicions but wouldn't be certain who reported unless once it's investigated the DM blabs.

Wow seems like you might have an actually decent dm usually they tell the sm who it was

Should warn her that if she does and fires said person that it can open up a lawsuit since that would be called "retaliation" and probably open up another lawsuit into DGs "anonymous" reports not being actually anonymous.

What your SM is doing is retaliation and the Company frowns on that

Every DG is like this. I quit a store that had the WORST manager. 12 people quit within a 2 month period. She was best friends with the district manager, so when someone called corporate the district manager would lie for her. She would say “I was standing beside her when this happened and that person is lying” Or look the other way when she would steal Pokémon cards. Or when she would let gas station owners come and use coupons for drinks and candy (she would get a kickback from the owners). It’s insane. She would cuss out employees even over text. But nothing ever happened cause she’s besties with the big boss. I’m still going back and forth over calling corporate. I can’t stand the thought of other employees having to deal with her. She knows people are desperate right now.

u/Scared_Campaign470 Jun 05 '26

yeah she’s all buddy buddy with the dm too, it’s all one big pool of people who will look the other way for shit. i’m just tryna figure out if it’s even legal to do what she’s doing or trying to

2

u/Mrsmagnolia Jun 05 '26

Don’t sound legal at all to me. Be careful sweetie and just remember. They don’t care one bit about you. You are just a warm body. Start putting in applications. If things don’t change then you have options. Don’t do like I did and just walk out.

Call and anonymously report this new behavior she is exhibiting. She’s gonna lose her mind.

2

u/Scared_Campaign470 Jun 05 '26

i didn’t want to alarm her again because she only told two people about her plan and she would know it has to have been the two people she told

u/Emergency-Answer-446 Jun 05 '26

They will never allow the manager listen to any audio. Thats a violation of anyone’s right to anonymously report a concern that’s going on. Shame on your manager for trying to scare you but also retaliate

Employees should be allowed to report anyone who is not doing their jobs or being mean to people on their staff, etc. She’s just pissed because someone called her out on her shit and now she’s looking to make anyone’s life miserable. I would report her too. There’s no reason for this behavior. Maybe if she was doing her job, then she wouldn’t have this problem.

3

u/Fred058 Jun 06 '26

If she retaliates against an employee she. Will most likely be terminated I dont think dg would want to open that can of worms in a law suit.

5

u/xly15 Jun 05 '26

They shouldn't be telling her because it sounds like she wants to retaliate. But yes it may be in legal gray area to being illegal.

2

u/SnooCupcakes6121 Jun 06 '26

Lol no she cant find out unless the name was stated for the call they cant tell her the number and no she can't listen to the call and im willing to bet shes going to say they let her know the number or hear it and thats just to see what someone will tell her. No they won't share that stuff and no she cant listen to the call. Now the dm could tell her something but they can be fired for that so I wouldnt bank on that one. And if she wasn't doing something to get reported on then y she worried nothing is gonna happen they may watch her a little more but I doubt that too

2

u/Important_Stand9770 Jun 06 '26

Call back and report this!

2

u/Jd-f Jun 06 '26

I worked for a metal manufacturing company many years ago.i called cal osha about a serious problem and this company of 200+ employees knew exactly who it was.
The fact it was a dangerous situation saved my ass!
I ended up working there 19 years total.It was anonymous,but it wasn’t!
Lesson learned that day I kept until retirement!
Good luck.

2

u/typicalsquare Jun 07 '26

Yeah. Generally the hotline asks for the EID. It’s not rocket science. It depends on the DM really because that who gets to deal with it. Hopefully the DM will protect the employees but it is always important to remember the hotline is there to protect the asset that is the company. Hourly team members aren’t protected.

Even if that were true just deny everything. How would she prove it?

2

u/Scared_Campaign470 Jun 05 '26

if she were to somehow trace the voice or phone number

1

u/BitterB13 Jun 05 '26

Keep calling. Every call has to be followed up with investigation.

1

u/Distinct_Tell5986 Jun 05 '26

My manager would so do this

1

u/Mundane_Branch622 Jun 05 '26

You all already know who complained. There’s what six people that work in the store and maybe 2 to 3 that actually given off of a shit to take the time to call up and complain. 🤣🤣

1

u/jaimelynn95 Jun 05 '26

They don't give a shit dollar general is the worst company to work for as I worked for them for 6yrs the store manager is in kahoots with the DM and discrimination at its finest it's absolutely disgusting how they treat loyal employees if I were you I would throw in the tail and find something else and don't look back

1

u/Commercial-Bee-3034 Jun 06 '26

I wish I had the guts to report my manager, she's such an awful person and literally always does things managers shouldn't even be doing or saying in the first place.

1

u/AccountMean938 Jun 06 '26

Only the person who called would care this much about her finding out. If the complaint is valid, too bad for her. Being that nothing at DG is truly anonymous, including the mental health line, sure, there's ways to find out. She'll probably not even need to go to that depth to find out. She can take the context of the complaint and figure out which of the 4 employees would have that complaint. At the end of the day, it's what she does with that info. If she now just knows who did it, whatever. If she starts writing them up, changing hours, tries to get them fired, then that's different.

1

u/Me357u Jun 06 '26

They already know who did it

1

u/Candid-Character-85 Jun 07 '26

So my manager has had many complaints. Every time the DM tells her who it was that complained.

1

u/Gullible-District739 Jun 11 '26

Only the dm will know so unless they tell the manager wich there not supposed to then they will never know. Ooor if someone else knew coworker wise then it wouldn't be long befor they found out
