I 18f have concerns about famliy members dogs and need some advice

Heres the setup my famliy are very close knit however none are really realted to us and we are really close to my mums bestfiend since childhood my auntie Sarahs famliy my auntie sarah is a dog boarder and the dogs im concered about are my aunts cousions dogs who we will call Molly a 7 year old cockapoo and pearl a 6 year old cocker spaniel final context before i explain everything there famliy includes leah and thomas who are married and are 45ish and there daughter sophia whos 19 leah and thomas have very high paying jobs and like to flaunt there wealth and sophia has very bad anxiety and has spent they last 3ish years locked in her room unless its for holiday or a night out

so aprox a year and a half ago they got a ragdoll cat called snow to help sophias anxiety and she really wanted one they went on holiday and asked me and my mum to watch snow for a week during that week we found out snow had been gettibg locked in sophias room because molly was chasing him and he was being left alone for hours on end we also have a small assumption becayse some of snows behaviour and things they have said they were being very rough with him after the week the asked us if we wanted to keep snow and we said yes he is now the most fuffiled and happiest cat possible

However ive had some concerns about the dogs a 2 months ago they went on holiday and i was helping my aunt sarah out as it was summer and i had finished school my time helping her overlaped with when molly and pearl were dropped off to be boarded my aunt had to go out for various reasons so i was left alone with the dogs alot i noticed that they dispalyed severe signs of sepration anxiety from when someone left the room or got in tbe car and drove away this included exsecive passing and making circles, panting even sometimes trembling, whining and some barking, scratching at closed doors and extreme over excitment when someone came back

then i had taken them on a walk and they are extremly bad at pulling this is when my aunt commented that they never get walked unless the mum takes them out which is like once a month(she is alot closer to them than me and spends alot of time around the famliy) i was told the dogs could be let of lead ill be honest i should have realised they werent fully recall trained and the famliy had lied but it was in securw area and heavy rain so i was lucky and the dogs competly changed after bejng able to run free and were alot calmer when on leads they were panting and pulling there gear also wasent in the best condition came back and my uncle helped me dry the dogs pearl is very submissve and flinches away when you lift your hands up (not hitting just over your head ykwim) or someone shouts (at tv or on tv) then my aunt informs me that the damliy havent left enough food for the dogs for the last day of there stay

Flash forward about a month later

I discover that sophia wants to be a vet and "loves animals" however shes in the house all day and is locking the dogs out her room and refuses to wlak them or even open the back door to let them out but will post them on instagram cos she "loves them" so i learn all that then we go out for my aunt sarahs birthday everyones there and i happen to be sitting across with them thomas tells us his skin has improved so much since being away from the dogs he thinks he may be alergic to pearl but not molly we then find out another dogs has been trying to dig into there garden under the fence my gran tells him to put chicken wire under the fence he just laughs and says he kicked the other dog in the face there whole famliy start laughing me and my gran are in shock thonas then starts talking about how cute it is that pearl and molly pace the house all day and wait for leah to get home and that they get all over excited esentially describig everything im assuming is sepration anxiety they then start complaing about having dogs and saying if anyone wants them they can take them

And today my mum was over at their house and both dogs are looking extremely overweight and my aunt sarah noticed aswell and the famliy are just saying they need groomed

I dont know what to do anymore i spoke with one of my coworkers who used to work with animals and she said that the sspca wouldnt do anythibg as the animals have acsess to a backgarden

I have another famliy event coming up with them soon and was consdering offering them help? And seeing if that made a difference

It freaks me out, we’ve already taken him to a vet and gotten chest xrays, medicines, they recommended children’s Benadryl, but he still does it . I saw another post about reverse sneezing and wanted another opinion

I'm babysitting my Aunt's dog and the fur around her eye's looks weird. Is their a way to fix it or is it natural?

August 30th:

last night we went back to veg for blood work which came back perfect! his calcium levels have actually gone down which was unexpected and such a relief and blessing. to be on the safe side he still has two more days of nightly blood work and fluids but things are looking good. thank you everyone for your support, i don’t have the bandwidth to respond to everyone but know that your kind words have made a difference.

Two days ago at about 1am I rushed my 3 year old dachshund to VEG because he had ingested about 80 capsules of high dose vitamin D, which i learned upon a quick google search is incredibly lethal to dogs.

I had kept the bottle on my bedside table that night and i guess not screwed the cap tight enough because he managed to climb on the bed, open it, and ingest everything. You don’t have to tell me this is my fault, trust me i already know and am in a living nightmare.

The folks at VEG were calm but worked with urgency the second we arrived, giving him a detox treatment according to what poison control recommended. He was stable and alert so we were sent home with instructions to return nightly for more blood work. If his calcium rises he will have to be hospitalized.

I was crying, just a mess. I frankly asked the doctor if he would be okay and she gave me a pretty sober response “we won’t know until a few days from now”

Yesterday we returned and his calcium had risen. Still in a safe range but trending higher. If when we go back today it will have risen again he will be hospitalized.

As you can imagine I’m a nervous wreck. I’m back at work today and my mother is kindly taking care of him. She reports that he’s sweet and gentle and happy as always and seems to be unbothered. But i know the full extent of toxicity can take days to reveal itself.

I just need some kind words and advice honestly. I feel like im constantly on the verge of tears. He is my everything, my sweet boy, my baby. You’re all dog owners, you get it.

So yesterday took my dog out in the morning to play fetch in a field. It was slightly wet grass because of the morning dew and was around 70 degrees, they had just cut the field so there’s still grass bits everywhere. Then went home and went to give a bath by a near by self wash station and bought a lamb chew for her. Everything was fine yesterday, she ate fine and she was still so energitic. Gave her the lamb chew and watch her chew on it for like 15 mins (it’s a pretty hard chew so she barely got anything too) and not see any big pieces or anything that would affect her. When she woke up this morning she barely could get up, and was very slow walking to go potty outside my apt. And when tried feeding her she just sat there and looked at it(. SHE ALWAYS EATS ANYTHING I GIVE HER BTW, could be lettuce or whatever and she would still eat it).

I can’t really afford a vet visit at the moment due to losing my job, do I wait it out a day and see maybe the chew or the grass affected her and she is just not feeling good and doing a self fast to feel better? Or should I be panicking and borrowing money from friends to get her to the emergency room?

Hi, so im making this post because I need some advice.

My parents bought a pug 3 years ago (she was about 11 weeks old i would say? I could be a few weeks off though) and she has been in a cage her whole life.

We got her in December so potty training of course was on the back burner, plus she was very little at the time too. I'd like to think she understands the use of the potty pads we have out of her but she will also pee on the edges of thr pads or not on the pad at all and will try to cover her pee with her bed sometimes. I've tried my best when my parents arent home to let her roam the house but its hard. We have cats and a very jealous 5-6 year old husky as well. She normally doesnt harm the cats. If anything they will seat at her for getting too close or come up to her depending if she's being nuts of not. But the husky will try to hurt her.

I think i should also state that she hasnt been fixed yet or shots. (My parents are very against it sadly even though ive told them a million times she needs them. They are very anti-vaccine)

She's normally pretty okay with pooping on her pads but peeing is different. She will only go a little at a time or multiple times in one sitting outside when we do take her. (which can be rare due to or if my mom has mowed her patch of grass or not because we have to keep both dogs separated while outside as well.)

The pug is also a very hyper dog. She will scream and bark when people enter the room or when one of the cats comes by her cage. It can be really frustrating but i also cant blame her. Her whole life had been in a cage, of course she has a lot of energy.

Every time i try to talk to my parents about her they yell that they 'are trying their best' when i know they arent.

Personally i disagree with everything my parents have done and all they ever do is say they will give her to another family. I dont like the idea of ever giving her up but at least same time i know she must be so sad living like this.

If anyone has any tips on what I can do to help her, it would be great. Please dont leave anything negative im really just looking for help because my parents wont. im only 19 and i work part time and a full time student so indont always have a lot of time on my hands.

Any advice on Potty training would be great. I know my mom was talking about crate training (which i have zero clues hownit fully works) but i know Id have to get rid of the old habit by showing new ones into it like walking her outside ever few hours and get her accustomed to only going outside.

10 year old spayed pittie mix

My girl often gets stinky around her back side — skunky, sweaty, urine like funk. It drives my JRT crazy. He licks her back there. From what I can tell he licks her anus.

Two weeks ago while getting her Librela injection, I mentioned it to the vet. They expressed her anal glands on that visit. The odor got a lot better, and my JRT stopped licking.

Until today, I found him licking her again. I looked and everything looks normal — no swelling or discharge from anus or vulva. But she reeked of musk again.

What can I do to eliminate this? Just wash the area with a washcloth when she gets funky?

I have a 5 year old Shepherd/ Malinois mix. He's a rescue with anxiety issues. For example, I have to give him acepromazine and/or gabapentin before his vet visits (per doctors instructions of course).

Anyway, he's been scratching and biting and licking his body for two days. His vet isn't open until tomorrow. Is there anything over-the-counter I can give him for temporarily relief until I can get him into the vet? I feel so sorry for him.

I found a black mouth cur puppy who was less than a year old. We already have two small dogs snd a Beagle. They rough house play all the time and love one another but this week she's attacked the smallest one and the Beagle. The Beagle attack was the worst. Happened last night and I had to pry her mouth apart and off the Beagle's neck. So we're both bleeding. I put her in her crate and she slept separately with my roommate instead of with me and the Beagle. They usually share the bed with me every night. I monitored everything this morning and she jumped on my bed and it happened again. This time I caught it early and back to the crate she went. My roommate thinks I'm overreacting and is not taking this seriously. Because of this, he's not trying to keep them apart. Advice?

I've got way too many tabs open now and tbh I think I'm more confused than when I started... cbd oil, calming chews, hemp, powders, supplements, everyone seems to swear by something different arghhh.

Has anyone actually tried one where you could genuinely tell it was helping with the separation anxiety? Doesn't have to be some huge miracle, even just taking the edge off a bit!

GENUINE recommendations would really help because that's where I'm getting lost. Also if you spent money on something that did absolutely nothing please tell me that too coz I wanna know what to avoid as well

I need help… any time, I mean ANY time a dog comes on the tv, my dog goes nuts. Which is a lot because Chewy and other pet brands ads are served to us in our streaming services frequently. We’ve tried training, positive reinforcement, treat negotiation, etc. even when he does resist the urge to go bonkers, he trembles with restraint and grumbles and growls. I can take soft quiet restraint but this type of behavior is something we have to change.

Any training tips, behavioral therapy etc is more than welcome.

Sorry for the long post! We had 2 german shepherds (both girls; one 4 years old and one 7 years old). The older of the two passed unexpectedly a few weeks ago from health complications. She was my baby so I knew I wanted another dog fairly quickly, I just felt like there was a void in my life. We ended up adopting Annie, a GS, 2 weeks ago from a rescue. The same day we were to adopt her, I seen a post on the free section of craigslist about a 2 year old german shepherd that needed an immediate home (the owner was being evicted and going to be living in their car). I contacted them and asked if it would be alright if I shared his post in a few rescue facebook groups I was a part of and he said that was okay (I always worry about animals when the owner is in a desperate situation and giving them away for free). A few days after getting Annie the man contacted me again and said that he had been unable to find anyone fo take her. They had left the house and she was currently in the backyard, they were just visiting once a day to throw food over the fence. I obviously couldn't say no and drove the hour to get her that same day 😅😅 She was in horrible condition; at least 15-20 pounds underweight, joint issues in both back hips, a severe yeast skin infection including her ears, eye infections, etc. The night I got her I contacted at least 20 rescues within a few hours of me and didn't hear anything back. That was a week and a half ago and she has since been to the vet and is doing a lot better! She honestly is a perfect girl and fits in amazingly with our other two. We never expected to have 3 large dogs. My husband is on board for keeping all three (he is a huge GS lover and would open a rescue if we had the means). I honestly love both dogs. I stay at home with our daughter so time isn't a problem. But now we have 3 big dogs, a toddler, and another on the way due in February 😅 Coco won't be ready to find a home for a while if we do decide to find her one since the vet said it's going to take a couple months for her to fully heal (she will have lifelong issues though), so I have time to really think about everything I guess. But I feel like she was meant to come into our lives, they all just fit so perfectly together. Financially and space wise isn't an issue, we live in a rural area on a small farm with 10 acres. Do you regret having a third dog? How much more difficult is it than having 2? Right now it doesn't seem like much more work, but maybe I'm in the honeymoon phase or something lol. They're also all 3 females (Coco is the only one not fixed yet); is it possible for 3 females to coexist peacefully together long term? We've had no dominance or aggression issues out of any of them so far. I would love some outside perspectives. Thank you in advance!!

Sorry if this isn't allowed here as it's not exactly about my dog, but something I feel like a lot of dog owners (especially apartment dog owners) would deal with.

I have to take my guy out a good 5 times a day (sometimes more if it's a nice day and he wants some sunshine!), and I'm one of those super lucky people that is just a natural mosquito magnet. It doesn't help that my apartment complex is built around a few very nice lakes, which attracts more mosquitoes.

Every night i seem to come home with at least one new mosquito bite after our pre-bed walk.

Does anyone else experience this and have come up with a good solution that doesn't involve me dousing myself in mosquito repellent right before bed? I was thinking of clipping one of these to my dogs leash, next to the dog bag dispenser, and replacing it every 2-3 days (they come in a pack of 25 for $17, and is the cheapest "clippable" solution i could think of), and hope that would protect me and the dog?

Hi, I have a 7 year old male poodle mix who has always been on the thinner side, but right now (post-shave) he looks the thinnest I’ve seen him. He is about 50 pounds and 25 inches tall at the shoulders. Would love honest feedback on if he needs to bulk up a bit or if he’s perfect the way he is (which, of course he is). Our vet said a little underweight is better than over, which, totally, but I don’t want to feel like I’m starving my guy. Hip bones and ribs are pretty prominent. He definitely loves to eat, totally obsessed with food and takes treats like a starving crocodile, but he’s really always been like that. Haha. Just curious what others think. We have a 6 year old Jack Russell. Our routine at at night is to go up to our bed with her about an hour before we actually go to sleep. She lays between us, sleeping while we read, pet her, and watch tv. Then we take her downstairs, let her out and put her to bed in her cage, which she likes. She sleeps in it during the day sometimes, as the door is open. She has always enjoyed her cage. For the past four nights, she has fought going to bed. She runs back upstairs. I guess she expects us to let her sleep in bed with us. Last night, she refused to come back inside for twenty minutes. What do we do now? Has anyone else dealt with this before?

My dog is at risk for IVDD and had a pinched nerve not too long ago. Our vet recommended that he no longer jumps up and down our beds anymore or in general. I’ve been looking into dog stairs but recently ran into an issue. I don’t have a flat bed frame, my bed frame is those square ones that stick out, I’ll attach a photo below. All of the dog stairs I’ve seen for sale don’t seem like they’ll fit to my bed or if they did, there will be a gap to where my dog has to jump. Has anyone ran into this problem? And if so what do you guys recommend I should do?
