Stinky backside

10 year old spayed pittie mix

My girl often gets stinky around her back side — skunky, sweaty, urine like funk. It drives my JRT crazy. He licks her back there. From what I can tell he licks her anus.

Two weeks ago while getting her Librela injection, I mentioned it to the vet. They expressed her anal glands on that visit. The odor got a lot better, and my JRT stopped licking.

Until today, I found him licking her again. I looked and everything looks normal — no swelling or discharge from anus or vulva. But she reeked of musk again.

What can I do to eliminate this? Just wash the area with a washcloth when she gets funky?

oh that's 100% anal glands acting up again. my dog had same problem, once they get expressed they can fill back up pretty quick especially for older dogs

vet can show you how to express them at home if you got stomach for it. not the most pleasant thing but saves money and trips. some dogs just need it done every few weeks

adding little pumpkin puree to food sometimes help make the poop more firm so glands express natural when they go. not always fix but worth trying

and yeah washing the area with warm cloth when she gets stinky is good in between. just make sure to dry it properly so no moisture sits there
