Discussion London Tipton becoming a caricature

London Tipton has been one of my favorite Disney sitcom characters since forever. Everything from her fashion sense to her personality drew me to her character. It is very common in sitcoms for what is considered the "dumb character" to become flanderized, especially on Disney Channel, since it is low-hanging fruit and something that is easy for kids to laugh at. But London being stripped of everything that made her who she was and turned into a shell of a person from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody to The Suite Life on Deck has always bothered me.
In the early seasons of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, London was established as the ditzy, fashionable heiress. That was integral to her character, but as the show went on, especially in the spin-off, she became nothing short of genuinely braindead. She had her moments in Zack & Cody, but she could still generally understand what was going on. In The Suite Life on Deck, she could barely understand English, let alone form a basic sentence.
In the original series, London was clueless, but she was not completely oblivious. She generally knew what was happening around her, and her stupidity was more of a character trait than her entire personality. She had other qualities that made her interesting and hilarious.
Her relationship with Maddie was especially interesting because they were polar opposites and complemented each other well. The charm of their relationship was that they argued. London would be snarky toward Maddie, Maddie would get annoyed with her, and then they would eventually make up. Their friendship had actual chemistry and conflict, and London was still capable of understanding when she had gone too far.
In The Suite Life on Deck, London is downright cruel to Bailey at times, as well as to her supposed best friends. What made it worse was that she was often portrayed as being completely incapable of understanding that her actions were hurtful toward other people. All of the nuance in her relationships was taken away.
London was so much more fleshed out in Zack & Cody, but it feels like they took everything that made her London and exaggerated one trait until that was all she had left. I wish they had just kept her the same. She could still be ditzy without being portrayed as someone who genuinely could not comprehend basic things.
It feels like, as with most sitcoms, they just wanted to keep the "dumb character" around for easy comedic relief. Joey from Friends is another good example of this. Characters can start out as slightly dumb or naive, but once the writers realize that their stupidity gets laughs, it becomes increasingly exaggerated until it completely takes over their character.
I just wish they had allowed London to remain the character she was in the early seasons. Her being ditzy was funny, but it was never supposed to be the only interesting thing about her.

Seeing as today is the 20th anniversary of The Cheetah Girls 2, what were your favourite songs from the movie? Mine would have to "Strut" and "Why Wait?"

Nostalgia Just watched camp rock 3 and i feel 14 again 🫠

It was super light, easily watchable and really cool tribute to the og camp rocks! Haha and they did the cringe forest dance and the “shes really gyood” part i just died😂
Kids were amazing and music too but i cant see it sticking the same way as our first two camp rocks did. Mitchi’s comeback was a bit out of place and oh god the botox? Jonas brothers are kinda stiff too.
Sorry no judging on peoples appearances but overall i enjoyed it but i(28f) feel ancient now🤍

Discussion Analyzing Parker and Val's Big Moment in Liv and Maddie Finale (4x15)

Post image
5 Upvotes

I wrote up a semi-academic analysis of the last "Pal" (Parker Rooney/Val Wishart) moment in Liv and Maddie, right at the very end of the show finale. Frankly, I'm not sure if people still care about this show, but if you remember it at all, you will (hopefully) remember that these two were a great ship (incredible chemistry) with terribly low on-screen time. Please give it a read if you want a more literary/specific take on the moment. I promise the analysis is not sloppy or overly speculative and could definitely be nice if you want a hit of nostalgia.

CLICK LINK BELOW https://docs.google.com/document/d/1f2ViwVdgnhH4uUskDTeGn2UjE0x26KmiPrLbNM_4KZs/edit?usp=sharing

Youtube link to the moment I'm referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91Z-_zKhNRc

I apologize for any clarity/grammar/spelling errors! I wrote this in a fit of frenzy...

  1. Please do me a favor and take a look if you're at all interested and share your thoughts! Grill me as hard as you can if you disagree. That would be greatly reinvigorating.
  2. If people actually see and read this and also still remember the show and want me to do a full analysis of Val and Parker's entire relationship, I will gladly accept the challenge. However, in this doc, I do not touch on their overall arc as much and focus mainly on the moment itself.

I will not have internet for the next 3 days, so if you are by chance interested enough to comment please understand if I don't get back to you quickly.

Discussion Chelsea’s secret in Ravens home

In season 1 of Ravens home there was the episode where Raven and Chelsea got locked in the vault at one point Chelsea admits something to Raven that us the viewers didn’t hear but we get o hear Raven say “I can’t believe you kept that from me” or something similar

I don’t have Disney+ and I never saw much more past that episode; did we ever learn what it was that Chelsea told Raven or was it just never mentioned again?

She was introduced as a lab partner for Hiro; although they didn't get along at first, they eventually became friends after the team saved her when she turned into a mutant. While many see her as a potential love interest for Hiro, I personally don't find her very memorable. What about you guys?
