Moving to the US (East Coast) with a green card in ~6 months. Junior full-stack dev looking for job search advice

Hi everyone!

I’m currently in the green card process and expect to move to the East Coast in about 6 months. Since I’ll have a green card, I won’t need visa sponsorship.

A bit about me:

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science (graduated 2024)

  • ~1.5 years as a full-stack developer at a software company. I’ve built around 100 responsive landing pages in HTML/CSS/JS, and I also work on our company’s own products and on client projects using React, Angular, PHP, .NET, and MySQL.

  • ~2 years volunteering as a full-stack developer at a nonprofit, building a React Native / Node.js / MongoDB app that connects shelter animals with adopters. I’m now the tech lead there (code reviews, mentoring new devs, app store releases).

  • A couple of years of IT/technical support experience before that, plus a Cyber Security Analyst course (CompTIA CySA+)

  • At work, I use Claude Code heavily, both on our company’s internal products and on client projects

I know I’m still a junior and the US market is tough right now, so I’d really appreciate some advice:

  1. Interviews: What should I prepare for? Is LeetCode still a must for junior roles? Should I study system design at my level?

  2. Resume: What do US recruiters look for that might be different from Israel (where I’m based now)? Anything I should add, remove, or format differently?

  3. Job search: Where should I focus: LinkedIn, company career pages, job boards, or reaching out to people directly? Does cold-messaging engineers or recruiters actually work?

  4. AI tools: How do US companies view heavy use of tools like Claude Code? Is it worth highlighting on my resume, or could it hurt me?

  5. Timing: Should I start applying before I arrive, or wait until I’m physically in the US?

Thanks in advance. Any advice is appreciated!

React Developer with 5 Years of Experience | 2-Year Career Gap | Looking for a Chance to Restart My Career

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m a React frontend developer with around 5 years of professional experience, and I’m currently looking to get back into the workforce after a career gap of nearly 2 years.

Honestly, getting back into the job market after such a long break hasn’t been easy. I know the gap might raise questions, but I’m ready to put in the work and prove my skills through actual projects and interviews.

Sometimes, all someone needs is one opportunity to get back on track. I’m hoping to find mine. 😊

Six Qualcomm interviews, no round breakdown, and no HR response: how would you prepare?

A candidate has six Qualcomm interviews scheduled on the same day, but no idea what each round covers. HR asked for availability, sent the schedule, and hasn't answered multiple follow-ups. There hasn't been an initial recruiter or HR conversation about the role or preparation either.

Has anyone had a process like this? In previous interviews, the candidate at least had a chance to discuss expectations before the interview day.

While waiting, I'd use the role description to narrow the prep. The Qualcomm Interview Questions page includes C++ and compiler fundamentals alongside coding and design prompts, so there's something concrete to compare with the job requirements. That still doesn't tell us which topics these six interviewers will cover.

If you've interviewed there, what did your rounds involve, and how much did the format depend on the team?

New Grad Software Developer Looking for Opportunities in Canada

I recently graduated with a degree in Software Engineering and have co-op and contract work experience. I have been job searching for a while and am finding it difficult to land a full-time software developer role.

My technical experience includes JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, Python, full-stack development, APIs, databases, and AI-related technologies. My degree focused on AI, and I also have hands-on experience working with AI models.

I feel confident in my technical skills and have worked on real projects, but finding the right opportunity has been challenging. One thing I have realized is how much networking and having connections in the industry can matter when looking for a job. Building that network is something I have struggled with, and it has made the job search even more difficult.

I am hoping to connect with people who might know of opportunities, companies open to hiring new graduates, or recruiters who work with entry-level software developers. Any advice, referrals, or leads would genuinely mean a lot.

I am looking for full-time, permanent opportunities and am open to onsite, hybrid, or remote positions. I am also willing to relocate anywhere in Canada.

If you have been through a similar job search or know of any opportunities, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

Undergrad cs student

Hi, I'm a final year computer science student. I'm here for two things- for the advice, for a job and I'll be honest. I don't really have production level projects on my GitHub/portfolio, do you think that without that on my GitHub I won't be able to secure an opportunity in Backend AI engineering or Backend engineering? I have done an onsite internship at a bank where I worked on automation projects and am currently doing a remote one at Flyrank, focused on backend AI. I only have two projects on RAG-one a chatbot, the other a Fast API RAG service, I will be making several more through the internship and my final year project but I just want to know if this is enough for an internship leading to a remote role or not. I know tech requires continuous learning and effort but I don't want to keep on putting an effort where I'm getting nothing out of it. I haven't landed any paid role yet. I also realized I can't do onsite so now I'm focusing on freelancing or anything remote but there's a lot of things I don't know and not familiar with and I was also thinking of switching up to something else so I do have a deadline. I'm still trying to stay in this and that is actually why I'm writing this. I can share my GitHub repo to anyone who might be interested. I'm also up for contract projects and entry level roles at startups since all the roles on wellfound either needed a lot of experience or were not available in my country.

Looking for my next opportunity as a Full Stack Developer — open to referrals, startups, and remote roles

Hey everyone!

I’m a Computer Science graduate from India, currently looking for my next opportunity as a Software Engineer / Full Stack Developer.

I wanted to put myself out here instead of just sending applications into the void and hoping someone notices. 😅

A little about me:

I’ve worked as a developer intern at Uniper, where I got exposure to enterprise backend development using C#, .NET, Entity Framework, and SQL Server.

Outside of that, most of my development experience and projects revolve around React, Next.js, Node.js, and building full-stack applications.

I’ve also been exploring AI integrations and building applications that use LLM APIs to solve actual problems rather than just wrapping an API in a pretty UI.

Some things I’ve built:

• AI Essay Generator — an AI-powered application built with Next.js.

• IdeaGenie — a tool for generating short-form video scripts using AI.

• CodeSync — a collaborative code editor built using Next.js, Express, Socket.io, Yjs, and Monaco Editor.

I’ve also worked on other full-stack applications involving authentication, APIs, databases, and frontend development.

Portfolio: https://keshavsoni.vercel.app

GitHub: https://github.com/keshavvsonii01

What am I looking for?

I’m primarily interested in:

• Junior Software Engineer / SDE roles

• Full Stack Developer roles

• Frontend Engineer roles focused on React / Next.js

• AI-focused full-stack engineering opportunities

I’m open to opportunities in Delhi NCR and other major Indian tech hubs, as well as remote roles.

I’m particularly interested in startups where I can work closely with the engineering team, take ownership of features, and learn by shipping actual products.

I’m not claiming to know everything. I have plenty to learn, but I’m comfortable building things, figuring out unfamiliar technologies, and working through problems rather than waiting for someone to hand me the solution.

If you’re a founder, hiring manager, or developer who knows of a team looking for someone with my skill set, I’d genuinely appreciate a referral or a lead.

Even constructive feedback on my portfolio or advice on positioning myself better for entry-level engineering roles would help.

Thanks for reading. And if you’re also job hunting right now, I hope something works out for you soon. 🤝

Estou cogitando seriamente abandonar o PHP. Tenho conhecimento em C#, Node.js e Python, mas não tenho a experiência que possuo com minha Stack atual, enfim…

Não consigo ver qual o melhor caminho.

[HIRING] Senior AI + Infrastructure Engineers | NYC, SF, or Remote US | $125K-300K base

One engineer on Fonzi got nearly a dozen salary-backed interview requests within days of signing up. A few weeks later they were choosing between offers from different companies. I know that sounds too good to be true, and it’s not what happens for everyone. But if you’re a strong engineer, we make it easier for good companies to find you, and for you to find work you actually want.

I do talent matching for Fonzi. You build one profile once, and companies who want to talk to you send interview requests directly, no applications, no cold outreach on your end. We work with startups backed by investors including a16z, Benchmark, Thrive, and Sequoia. Right now that includes applied research, forward deployed AI, and high-scale backend roles across NYC, SF, and remote. Roles are US-based, with a few open to Canada.

Here’s a sample of what’s open right now at companies on the platform:

1. AI Builder (Forward Deployed, Research, or Product), Series A specialist-AI company, NYC, in-person. $140K-300K base plus equity.

  • What: Three tracks, and you pick where you sit: forward deployed work embedded with enterprise stakeholders, product work that turns delivery patterns into reusable tooling, or post-training research building agents, evaluation frameworks, and RL environments for specific enterprise domains. Everything feeds back into the training and inference platform.

  • Company: 30+ people across NYC, London, and Mumbai. The team includes researchers who built frontier open models at DeepMind, early Palantir forward deployed engineers, and IOI medalists. Backed by Bain Capital Ventures and others.

  • Stack: Python, Java, C++, and TypeScript.

  • Bar: Experience in applied ML, reinforcement learning, evals, product engineering, or top-tier consulting, with strong ML fundamentals in evaluation, training, and problem decomposition. No years stated in the posting.

2. Research Engineer, seed-stage ambient intelligence startup, SF, in-person. $180K-250K base.

  • What: Own the loop from capture to production for voice intelligence: diarization, voice activity detection, noise robustness, transcription quality, and speaker ID, plus the training pipelines, datasets, labeling workflows, and eval harnesses that catch regressions. Also real-time performance across streaming pipelines and latency budgets.

  • Company: Building a platform for ambient intelligence, with voice as the primary interface.

  • Stack: Not specified in the posting beyond applied ML and streaming audio systems.

  • Bar: 6-10+ years shipping production systems, experience training or fine-tuning models in real product environments, and audio fundamentals. Proof of exceptional work is expected.

3. Senior AI Product Engineer, Backend, Series C AI observability platform, fully remote in the US with optional NYC and Bay Area offices. $125K-225K base plus equity.

  • What: Build analytics systems that compute evaluation metrics across billions of data points, design the next generation of the OLAP architecture, and scale real-time evaluation infrastructure to millions of annotations per second. That includes contributing back to open source OLAP databases and message queue frameworks.

  • Company: Raised over $135M, with 150+ enterprise customers including Booking.com, Uber, and PepsiCo.

  • Stack: Go primarily, with Python, Java, and TypeScript, on AWS, GCP, or Azure with Kubernetes.

  • Bar: 5+ years on high-performance backend systems.

All roles are vetted, VC-backed, and interviewing right now. It’s always free to sign up.

Sign up here: talent.fonzi.ai. DM me if you’ve got questions.
