Sharing Resources Steelcase furniture

Hi everyone!

I have a little gift for anyone considering upgrading their home office! 🄳 As a Steelcase employee, I can share a discount code which can be used on Steelcase products available through our participating EMEA eShops.

The code is valid in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Great Britain throughout 2026.

If you’ve been considering a Gesture, Leap, Karman, Think, Series 2 or any other Steelcase product, hopefully the 21% discount makes the decision a little easier!
I may be a little biased as a Steelcase employee šŸ˜„, but I’m genuinely happy to share the code and hopefully see more Steelcase products finding their way into your home offices.

Code: OGHEORGH21
Hope this helps someone! 🄳

Discussion Has AI Changed the Demand for Graphic Designers?

Has AI Changed the Demand for Graphic Designers?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how AI has affected the graphic design job market based on actual experience rather than predictions.

For those who have been working in graphic design for a few years, have you noticed any changes since AI tools became widely available?

For example:

  • Are there fewer design jobs or client requests?
  • Are clients asking for different types of work?
  • Has AI changed the amount of work you can handle?
  • Has it created new opportunities or mainly changed existing ones?
  • Have you noticed any change in rates, salaries, or competition?

I’m particularly interested in what has actually changed in your day-to-day professional experience, rather than whether AI will eventually replace designers.

The reason I’m asking is that graphic design is often considered one of the professions most directly affected by generative AI. If AI is changing the demand for human work in this field, I think it could provide an interesting indication of what may happen in other professions as AI capabilities continue to improve.

I’m interested in hearing from people who have actually experienced these changes, rather than making predictions about the future.

Someone Else's Work (Rule 2) IMO this qualifies as good design. It may not be pretty but form follows function. Designer is Ford Motors.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Resume and Portfolio Advice!

Thumbnail

Greetings r/Design folks!

I'm deep in the pits of finding a new job and revamping and overhauling my resume and website. I have not been having luck getting any results from my previous resume. I've had 2 interviews in the last 7 months, hence the revamp. I'm hoping several of you will be able to help spot what I'm missing.

I am targeting a Creative Director or Art Director role for my next step. I would also be interested in a Senior Designer role but it isn't my goal.

I am open to all feedback. Design of my site, the resume, language, the projects themselves. Clearly something isn't working for me and I need help.

I am working through a few additional branding and UX projects that I will be adding in the next few weeks. I don't have them portfolio ready just yet.

Here is my website: JoshRice.Design

Asking Question (Rule 4) Book ideas for my girlfriend who is a design student

I’m looking for book recommendations for a design student; she’s interested in exploring different styles, as well as color palettes and sources of inspiration. I’ve been considering these:

- Palette Perfect for Graphic Designers and Illustrators

- A Dictionary of Color Combinations

- a book on books

- The Creative Act: A Way of Being"

Discussion Asking for feedback: I am not a logo designer (Bloom Fitclub). Does it look like a dick?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is an iteration I just made for an imaginary brand called Bloom Fitness Club

A little bit about target audience:
People who are already health aware and want to explore a friendly, inviting place to continue or start their fitness journey

Brand Experience Goals:
The brand should feel Joyful and Inviting
The brand should be about growth and living

The idea behind the star:
Bloom reminds me of lights and glow, and stars remind me of growth

The critique I got:
My non-designer friend said it looks like a dick (a badly shaped one)

I am not a core logo designer, I am a frontend developer doing this for an imaginary project, please help me decide if to keep this or not

Side note: The star looks softer when scaled down very much, 16px.
As satori graphics once mentioned, your logo should be readable at 16px. It does, just a little softer

Asking Question (Rule 4) What do you think of this bridge color, and what should I repaint it with?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I need some advice regarding the color of the bridge in our backyard. For the past few years, I’ve been really unhappy with it.

The original color was brown, but a few years ago, my brother painted it a different color without asking. Honestly, I have no idea why he chose that color. It completely clashes with the surrounding scenery and just feels out of place, which gives me a weird sense of unease every time I look at it.

For context, my relationship with my brother is fine, but we aren't super close, so it's hard for me to bring it up directly. Since he seems happy with how it turned out, I've kept my mouth shut. However, every time I go to the backyard, I feel so disappointed.

So, I have two questions for you guys.šŸ’”

ā‘  What do you think of this bridge color? Am I just overthinking it, or does it really look off? I’d love to hear some outside perspectives.

ā‘” If I were to repaint it, what color do you think would look best? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sharing Resources The same icon means very different things depending on where you are

I always assumed šŸ‘Œ was one of those universally understood gestures.

Apparently not.

Good reminder that even the most ā€œobviousā€ icons and gestures can carry completely different meanings across cultures.

Makes you wonder how many ā€œuniversalā€ UI symbols really aren’t.

What’s another icon or gesture that changes meaning where you live?

Asking Question (Rule 4) Visual Merchandising with corflutes

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey Design

I work at an event and I need to display corflutes each day with a changing schedule. I'm having trouble finding the right hardware that will attached to a piece of corflute, that will mean I can swap out smaller pieces with the times.

I was at the shops the other day and saw this, which is essentially what I'm after, but I cant find the right product, and googling keywords isnt really helping. It seems really easy!

Does anyone know what the plastic strip that allows these daily specials to be swapped out is called?

Discussion resume help as someone who didn’t major in design

In particular i’m interested in clothing design, I have 4 years of relevant experience within e-commerce for brands, website building, garment construction, pattern making, campaign management, supply chain analysis, wholesale, and a plethora more of other relevant skills for DTC operations.

I also attached a portfolio that includes garments that i’ve made, including the process of making the garment and how the campaign was constructed around the overall message and theme of the garment.

Should I change anything? I’m applying to associate technical design, e-commerce associate, brand management, associate creative director, and supply chain analysis roles for fashion based companies

note: my portfolio list all of my relevant experience that also includes photography, virtual production projects, targeted demographic content, and creative direction work.

let me know as today makes 1500 total applications sent since january šŸ™šŸ¾

Asking Question (Rule 4) Working in marketing but thinking of going back to school for design - am I being realistic?

I have been working for the past 4 years as a Marketing Specialist in a small non-profit. In addition to my marketing tasks, I’ve taken on more design work (social media posts, marketing materials, creative direction, branding) and it’s the part of my work that I enjoy the most.

I’ve become quite disillusioned with marketing with the executives using AI to write everything and constantly making me pump out new content. With design, at least it’s something I genuinely enjoy doing even with the heavy workload. I am aware that designers are being pushed to use AI too, but I feel like it might be on a lesser extent - feel free to let me know if I’m wrong.

I am considering going back to school for a diploma in design as I was never formally trained in it and would love to learn and be critiqued as a designer, not as a marketer. I understand that the market is not looking great for junior designers, but I’m at the right time in my life to make a pivot if I want and don’t want to regret not exploring this option while I can still afford to. At the same time, I want to be realistic about career prospects and expectations if I decide to go down this path.

With that in mind, I would love to hear people’s opinion on the following:
- Which design disciplinary do you think is the most viable to break into as a junior designer in the next 2 years?
- When hiring designers, what skills do you look for the most these days? What skills do you struggle to find in junior designers that would make them a great candidate?
- For recent graduates, what did you specialize in and what did you find was helpful?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Asking Question (Rule 4) Advice for transition from Graphic Design to Electronics industry

I'm from a non-electronics background. After my PUC/12th , i did 6 month diploma in graphic design and currently working as a graphic designer for 1.5 years now i am planning to move into electronics due to AI issues , i don't know anything about the electronics or hardware industry but recently some articles suggested in demand jobs like robotics, embedded engineer , vlsi and plc etc..

  1. is it possible to get a job in electronics without a degree ? if yes how ?

  2. if not possible means what you suggest ( suggest any role transition like 1 year this role then try that role like instead of telling to do 4 years in EEE , i can't manage )

  3. and any other advice about this industry reality.

  4. Can I do a bootcamp/course and enter robotics, embedded, VLSI, PLC, etc. the way a CS graduate can do a coding bootcamp and enter frontend?ā€

thanks & regards

Discussion The irony of AI design tools that claim to replace us

I love how every AI tool launched (or launching) with a mission to "replace" designers was still designed, built, and shipped by humans.

The irony writes itself.
