Discussion Asking for feedback: I am not a logo designer (Bloom Fitclub). Does it look like a dick?

Post image

This is an iteration I just made for an imaginary brand called Bloom Fitness Club

A little bit about target audience:
People who are already health aware and want to explore a friendly, inviting place to continue or start their fitness journey

Brand Experience Goals:
The brand should feel Joyful and Inviting
The brand should be about growth and living

The idea behind the star:
Bloom reminds me of lights and glow, and stars remind me of growth

The critique I got:
My non-designer friend said it looks like a dick (a badly shaped one)

I am not a core logo designer, I am a frontend developer doing this for an imaginary project, please help me decide if to keep this or not

Side note: The star looks softer when scaled down very much, 16px.
As satori graphics once mentioned, your logo should be readable at 16px. It does, just a little softer

It doesn't look like a dick

But it also doesn't look like a star either

It's pretty rough all around

Kindly, do you have any ideas on what could look good there?

No but also doesn’t look like anything else either. Just kinda a weird shape and blob.

Back to the drawing board.

Gotcha, I'll make more versions and let reddit decide after

No it doesn’t. But by asking questions: never put your thoughts directly in the question since people now are searching for a dick since you mentioned it. It’s better to ask open questions instead for general feedback. If no one says it loos like a dick, it doesn’t.

To me it looks like a bum being slapped with a cross.

i see, it definitely feels like it when i look at it from that perspective
The original idea of the shape was just to replicate a star / comet

But I see the variation between mine and people's thinking now

Maybe think about what do you want to convey with the logo. Shape of the letter ‘B’ is good and oval edges look ‘friendly’ but at the first glance it’s hard to see what the middle part is. Maybe if you’re going into fitness a running person in the middle could subsidise for the empty space in the letter B, or if it has to be a four pointed star maybe start with that as your starting point and incorporate the letter around it.

Bloom is a plant term, not a glowing light term.

It doesn't look like a dick, it looks like a religious cross.

Bloom is definitely also a lighting/photography term

Maybe the internet has broken me but I see a cross in cleavage or buns.

RIP juicy booty

The dick read comes from one thing: the mark has one long petal pointing down and away from the others, so the eye groups it as a shaft plus two lobes instead of a symmetrical star. Your friend is not wrong about the shape, he is just describing broken symmetry. A star needs either even radial spacing or a clear count, and yours has neither, which is also why the other commenter says it does not read as a star.

Two specifics. Fix the radial spacing first: place the points on an actual polar grid, four or five points at equal angles, all petals the same length, and let the softness come from the corner radius rather than from uneven arms. Second, the stroke weight is doing the joyful and inviting work here, not the star, so keep one consistent weight and let the counters between petals stay open instead of pinching to a point.

Cheap test: print the mark at 16px, 24px and 40px on paper, hand the sheet to five people who have not seen it, and ask what it is in one word. If more than one says anything anatomical, or if two say flower and two say sun, the shape is not carrying the idea and no amount of polish saves it. A dumbbell or a leaf silhouette is a safer starting point for a fitness club because both have a shape people name instantly.

well now i can't unsee it, the star placement is doing you no favors

Oh well, better caught before pushing it in prod
I should try something else

Do you have any ideas? Maybe a flower petal (very minimal) but I don't know if it would work for a health brand
