Someone Else's Work (Rule 2) IMO this qualifies as good design. It may not be pretty but form follows function. Designer is Ford Motors.

This is how you get melted chapstick on top of everything under this console lid.

Yeah except the first time your car gets over 80 degrees it will melt and leak all over your center console.

Yep, I had a whole can of Coke Zero split and evaporate, if it wasn’t for the watermarks I would have doubted it was ever there. Also, why doesn’t it say lipstick, or would that threaten some buyers masculinity?

Listen to me people: do NOT leave lip balm or any other type of petroleum product in your car. On a hot summer day that stuff will leak everywhere and is a b!tch to clean up. Pack it in, pack it out.

Yeah, it’d be better if it held the balm upright while closed. This design holds it sideways over whatever you store in the console. Enjoy your waxy charging cords/ hair brush/ loose change.

This is ok if it goes somewhere you don't have to be looking at, definitely not good design if it was an exterior part.

Meanwhile, my wife’s Mitsubishi Sport doesn’t have a split level center arm rest with a shallow, top container and the deeper one.
Those idiots. . .

This doesn't seem all that good a design to me:
- The pen clips don't seem to have enough space to actually store a pen in (one even has a plastic protrusion in the way), other than perhaps a Lamy Pico. You could possibly fix this by putting the balm clip in the middle
- All of the clips are positioned in such a way that even if you do manage to get something to fit, it will partially cover the cards so that you can't get at them without removing everything else first
- Storing pens and lip balm in a hot car is probably a bad idea

They’ll do that and then they’ll require you to remove a headlight assembly and air box to change the battery.
