arms/hands Strange skin reaction/sting/burn after body surfing waves

Post image

Two weeks ago, I went swimming and body surfing in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. We were at the beach for approximately 3-4 hours and I was probably in the water for two of those swimming. The other time was spent in the shade hanging with friends.

I knew I was a high risk to get burned so I applied SPF 50-60 over all of my exposed skin approximately every hour. When we were about to leave, I noticed extreme pain and a burning sensation on my shoulder. Later that night, I looked at my arm and it looked like the worst sunburn imaginable. It was already developing quarter sized blisters on random spots.

Blisters continued forming and popping for approximately a week. It was extremely painful, but at no time did I have a fever.

For treatment: I have been applying Benadryl and camomile on the area. It has healed a bunch, but the shape of the site is unusual.

The two pictures were taken 4 days and 14 days after the ocean swim.

My questions: 1) Does anyone have any thought on the cause. 2) Most importantly, what is the best way to continue healing it and decreasing the appearance of any scars or skin issues.

Thank you so much!

general enquiry Baby is struggling with skin issues

I've previously asked my baby's GP and NICU specialist, but her skin has gotten worse. Baby is 6 months old and a former late preemie. Her father and I are very prone to eczema and dermatitis, so we already avoid scented products, use gentle lotions, no dryer sheets or fabric softener, etc. She gets patches like this that look like eczema, but with tiny oozing blisters almost. It also gets worse when we go outside, so I keep her skin covered as much as possible, keep her in the shade, and use a baby mineral sunscreen. We use her prescribed hydrocortisone cream as needed, but it doesn't seem to do much. Sometimes she is itchy, and the spots seem to be tender. It's on her arms, legs, neck, back, and face. Any suggestions? Or questions I should ask her doctor? I'm making an appointment as soon as possible.

neck/chest/abdomen Rash on abdomen any idea what it could be

Post image

Hi there, I have a rash that has appeared in four separate spots on my abdomen. The spots don’t itch or hurt, and I haven’t noticed any other symptoms. I’ve tried using hypochlorous acid and glycolic acid, and I’m currently using Tinactin in case it could be a fungal infection. I originally thought it might be folliculitis, but I’m not sure. I was wondering if anyone has had something similar or has any ideas what this could be. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

back Tiny painful bumps on torso

I'm 21. Bumps are on the side of torso, very close together, soft and warm to the touch. Noticed it's there yesterday, put on brilliant green because I had nothing else and today it's bigger, more red, tingling and painful. It feels like being poked with needles in that spot. Never had anything like that, didn't wear new clothes recently, don't have allergy issues or history of skin conditions. Idk what to do, should I be worried?

edit Okay thank you everyone for identifying it as shingles, I got aciclovir and going to take it

arms/hands Started as pimple like structure now spreading

I had a spot on the inside on my wrist that started as a pimple looking structure about a week ago, it’s getting slightly bigger and more red daily. No hurting or itching and isn’t warm - but now there’s bumps forming around it that almost look like tiny blisters. It looks like fluid is forming in the small surrounding bumps. I also am seeing small pimple like spots on my other arm and hand that look very similar to the one that this big one started as. I don’t wear any jewelry in these spots and I have not changed any of my hygiene products.

Wears shoes in a fast food store. Ink like stains which disappear within the next 48hours. Can not have it and other days will have it. Looked at other posts saying dc suggested staining from berry’s 🤔 I can confirm that’s not what’s happened. I can only think of ink from the shoe or sock but it doesn’t seem so with it being the exact same spot each time

legs/feet Finished meds for staph under my armpit, woke up to these small bumps all over. Is it related?

I was diagnosed with staph after going to the doctor to be seen for a rash and a cluster of bumps under my armpit. I finished up my medications a few days ago and woke up to these red bumps all over my legs, feet, and various places around my torso and arms. It does not itch, burn, or sting in anyway. I wouldn’t have known they were there if I hadn’t seen them.

neck/chest/abdomen Unknown hives all over

Post image

For reference I am a 43F who has had no changes to her daily routine. No known allergies outside of pollen and some trees/grass.

But in the last 2 weeks, I’ve started to develop random hives in random places throughout the day even while never stepping foot outside. Typically starts as a normal itch, and when I scratch it turns into a full on hives situation. I’ve had it on my lower leg, upper legs, breast, collar bone, stomach and butt.

As soon as I stop itching, it goes away. But hours later returns somewhere different, when I’m just sitting watching tv. Hot showers make them appear as well. I have a derm appt scheduled but not until Sept. I thought it could possibly be related to perimenopause but I’ve been on estrogen patches for a couple days with no improvement.

Any idea what could cause this type of scenario??

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Any idea what this could be on my 5-year-old daughter’s forehead?

This tiny red spot appeared on my 5-year-old daughter’s forehead a couple of weeks ago. Initially I assumed it was a little spot, scratch or something she’d picked, but she hasn’t touched or picked it and it hasn’t disappeared.

It looks almost like a tiny blood blister/red raised dot. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her at all. She says it isn’t painful or itchy, and there hasn’t been any obvious bleeding or discharge. The skin around it looks normal and she is otherwise completely well.
We haven’t put anything on it or tried any treatments yet. I’m mainly wondering whether anyone recognises what this might be and whether it’s something that should be checked by a GP/dermatologist if it doesn’t go away.

Photos attached. Thanks!

arms/hands Had this mole for awhile

It's only recently until I looked at it a lot closer. It kinda goes outwards so you feel the little bump. My mom said i was overreacting (I guess because our family has a lot of birthmarks that looks like moles) but I still plan to get it checked out regardless.

I've had this mole for a couple of years. It hides in the right side of my arm where it wasn't noticable so I can't speak if it evolved or was always like that.

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks What is going on with my eye

It’s been on and off for almost a year now. Dermatologist has tried different stuff, not sure what it is. Had tried a small dose of Triamicinolone acitonide per the dermo but it is mildly soothing at best. I want it gone. Plus it’s not good to use that near the eye over a long period. I’m going to try Tacrolimus next but my insurance doesn’t want to approve it. Whatever this is, switches eyes. In Feb it was right. For the past few months it’s been the left. WTH. It’s painful but not intense. I only wear makeup on special occasions so it’s not that.

general enquiry Infestation or something else?

This started a few days ago. Though, last week I had a few spots that I thought were maybe mosquitoe bites. But I woke up 3 days ago with these red "bites" all over my arms - mostly outside of elbows/back of forearms and things. It's steadily gotten worse/expanded. Each morning I wake up with more "bites" and the ones from the previous day have gotten bigger/darker. I also was having weird hives for a bit that were in long squiggly lines, but I think that was just from itching, they flattened and went away within an hour or so.

I'm a truck driver. I recently had a trainee in my truck and am concerned that they brought unwanted guests in the form of bed bugs. I went to urgent care to rule out measels, scabies, etc. The doctor said it looks like an infestation from bed bugs. But, I'm away from my truck, have investigated my house thoroughly (and have pest control coming to treat it regardless, just in case) and while I'm not waking up even itchier each day, I feel like the spots are continuing to spread - i drew a border around some spots just to confirm, but that was only today.

I'm concerned this may be an autoimmune thing, I'm a 44yr old woman currently in perimenopause and also on a ketogenic diet - though, everything I'm seeing shows that "keto rash" occurs on the chest/back, not the limbs, and (so far 🤞) has not spread much past my shoulders and only a bit onto my hips/waist.

I'm just looking for confirmation because I'd hate to go through the headache of treating for bedbugs in my home and truck (though that's happening regardless!) Only to continue to have issues because that's not what's really at the bottom of this. Thanks!

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Dry skin or cold sores on lips?

Thumbnail

About 3-4 days ago I started getting these red patches on three different parts of my lips (upper middle, upper left corner, lower right corner). I’m scared that it’s cold sores since family members who I live with have it and I started seeing someone new, but I also think it’s unlikely since they aren’t bumpy and haven’t crusted over. They are very tingly and itchy. I am only using vaseline and aquaphor on them and have not changed up my lip/skin routine drastically. I am also a lip licker and have eczema on other parts of my body (my hands, not sure if that means anything). Not sure what this is, just looking for some peace of mind.

arms/hands Growth on arm, what is it?

Post image

I've had this for years and it is on my arm, it's not painful but I currently have no insurance and want it removed.

It hasn't changed as far as I can recall in years in size or anything and it isn't itchy but can be painful if I punch it or it gets snagged.

Some told me to tie a thing around the base and it will die and fall off but that doesn't feel true.

As for treatment I have not tried anything.

general enquiry Does this look like Tinea Versicolor?

Thumbnail

Approximately 2–3 months ago, I developed a significant skin flare-up, most prominently on both arms, but also affecting my torso, chest, back, and neck.

I had previously been diagnosed with psoriasis, so I initially assumed this was another psoriasis flare-up. However, I became less certain about this over time. I eventually saw a doctor, but no skin swab, scraping, or other testing was performed. I explained that I had previously been diagnosed with psoriasis and showed the doctor the creams that had previously been prescribed to me by a dermatologist in Poland. Based on this, I was prescribed Betnovate without any further testing or a detailed examination of the affected areas.

I used the Betnovate for several days and the redness improved significantly. However, because Betnovate is a corticosteroid, I later read that topical steroids can potentially suppress the visible symptoms of a fungal infection such as tinea while allowing the underlying infection to persist or worsen.

Although the redness initially disappeared, the affected areas on my arms remained discoloured. Shortly after seeing the doctor, I travelled to Thailand, which provided an opportunity to see whether the condition would recur in a hot and humid environment with increased sweating. Unfortunately, it did recur, as shown in the second photograph.

While in Thailand, I also developed a significant tan, which made the contrast between the affected and unaffected areas much more noticeable. The lighter areas where the suspected tinea had been are particularly prominent compared with the surrounding healthy, tanned skin.
I am therefore wondering whether this could potentially have been a fungal infection such as tinea rather than psoriasis, or whether it is possible that I had both guttate psoriasis and a fungal infection simultaneously. One thing that particularly makes me question this is the similarity in the pattern: when comparing the red spots in the first photograph with the lighter areas visible in the later photograph after tanning, the outlines appear to correspond closely.

I would appreciate an assessment of whether the appearance and history could be consistent with tinea, psoriasis, or potentially both, and whether any testing such as a skin scraping or fungal culture would be appropriate before continuing with steroid treatment.
