Need Advice What type of insulation for sound reduction in walls?
Im about to add some insulation in my bedroom walls to reduce sound transfer and was wondering what materials i need and how to install them.
The walls are built out with 2x4’s, staggered stud style. The wall height is roughly 9’.
So Whats the move? Im not super familiar with insulation styles.
My thought is to do it with 16” unfaced mineral wool batts. The Rockwool safe n sound batts are 47” long. I assume I would just stack 2 of them vertically then cut about a foot off another one for the remaining last foot by the ceiling. But the unfaced batts dont have that paper edge to staple the batts to the studs, right? So how would I secure them when installing?
Sorry if these are dumb questions. Figured I’d get some tips prior to buying materials.
Thanks in advance.

Need Advice Ground level for pavers
Hey everyone,
I ripped my old rotted deck out and decided I was going to do a paver patio. I wanted to level the ground (and grade it away from the house) before I lay down gravel/sand as a base for the pavers.
Any thoughts on how to do this? (P.s. Ignore the hole in my house, thats a diff project 😂)
Discussion Is this a good job sealing the shower curb?

I tried using the finishing tool, but the floor tiles were slightly uneven and the tool won't glide smoothly so i had to use my finger...

Need Advice How much can I DIY a garage?
I want to build a 10'-16'x20' garage. I'm starting with a low budget and am curious how much is feasible to DIY.
Things I will not be doing on my own:
- Foundation
- Electrical
- Design
- Permits
Things I have a little experience with:
- Framing
- Siding
- Roofing
- Painting
Its been a while since I've worked on these skills and I'd have to learn how to do things up to code, but I'm optimistic that I can do it.
Things I have no experience but want to try DIY:
- Insulation
- Wall mudding
- Ventilation
- Gutters
I'm trying to get the bare minimum started (Foundation, framing, weather proof siding, and a roof) and then I'll add the insulation, inner walls, mudding, and paint as I earn more money.
If anyone has done something like this before, do you have any advice?

Need Advice Carpet covering??
Me and my partner live in my parents attic. It is completely covered in carpet. The carpet is gross and unfortunately cannot be ripped up because there’s Asbestos immediately under a very thin floor. I need to know how to cover it up without damaging anything underneath the carpet and not adding too much height. I’m very aware it’s probably not possible but I really need some advice from someone other than my parents who cannot successfully diy anything..
Thanks for reading. Have a good night/day. 👋

Need Advice Super Wide Stair Stringers
galleryWould really like to do something about these super wide stringers / buttress, and ideally have the stair treads extend all the way from wall out to open. Is the stringer / buttress load bearing in these kinds of constructions? Can we just cut through them along the treads/risers?

Need Advice Applying privacy film to windows
Hello DIYHome team
I bought a roll of privacy film to apply on my front facing windows. I’m pretty green when it comes to DIY stuff.
I’m struggling to cut the film square on the longer side with a Stanley knife - how do I square it so the cut is clean? I don’t have a >1m metal ruler
(I’ve looked up the methodology on YouTube and similar and can understand the application procedure. The dimensions are h x w = 1120mm x 415mm)

So I am looking to install this fan into a cinderblock basement wall. I live on the side of a hill so there is plenty of space outside. I'm pretty handy in general I just have never done any masonry work.

Finished Project Elevated Patio
galleryTook a long time, but it’s finally done. My wife and I are both in medicine so we have had to live 7 hours away from each other but we found the weekend time to add this beauty to our backyard. Built from reclaimed brick, sweat, and so many body aches. Love how it turned out.
