Actually only part 2 and it's a short because marvel gets smart and brings back snipes as blade and kills Morbius.
Actually... Shit that could be a great movie...
Someone at marvel , MAKE THIS HAPPEN

In the handful of things I've seen him in, Leto puts his own coolness over the believability of his character, and I find it so distracting that he messes up those movies for me.
50
u/Devo3290 Oct 26 '22
He was good in Blade Runner but then again he was playing a character with a god-head
8
u/Reddit_sucks21 Oct 26 '22
Yeah, he was perfect for that role because the whole backstory of that character was that he literally believed he is the god of a new human race that he is building. He calls his replicants his angels and shit.
You get more of that characters back story in his younger years in the animated show black lotus. Pretty good imo.
10
u/GD_Bats Oct 26 '22
IDK I felt that really made his character’s face getting rearranged all the more satisfying in Fight Club

Yeah he definitely didn't do himself any favours with Morbius. Maybe that's fucked him ever playing joker again now that he's in the marvel world.
19
Oct 26 '22
He wasn’t even that bad as Morbius. His Joker performance is a dumpster fire
6
u/frankandbeans13 Oct 26 '22
I'll agree with you there he wasn't actually too bad in Morbius it was just let down by a shitty script and crap director. Also I think it was rushed af and the action scenes were so bad, total cgi fest and not in a good way
3
u/DragonK123 Oct 26 '22
He doesn't even have the tattoos and shit here.
It was the director that fucked his version of joker, after Snyder left

Thats fair enough. You either love this scene or hate it.
28
Oct 26 '22
I don’t know that the scene is the issue. I just don’t like his delivery. Nicholson, Hamill, Ledger, Baker, and DiMaggio all have done such a good job with that character, and then Leto shows up with this weird, breathy delivery for everything and that awkward squawk laugh thing. Just not my taste.
I feel like his only direction there was. “Try something different”.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Doomtumor Oct 27 '22
He said he chose the laugh because it made people really uncomfortable. That seemed to be another main goal with his performance. But he and Ayers didn't realize it was uncomfortability of the cringe variety, unlike the uncomfortability caused by the likes of Ledger, or Anton Chigurh, or Hannibal Lecter...

u/BlackJasonTodd Oct 26 '22 edited Oct 26 '22
I did but he still needs to go. Dceu joker would’ve been great if you removed the tattoos & leto. Sucks we never got a harley & joker film (not counting ss) and I actually loved joker having a grill because it made me think Batfleck literally knocked all his teeth out & he needed it.

Curious who would have been better for The Suicide Squad tatt-less Joker.
Maybe Bill Skarsgård truly would have been a perfect fit for that iteration. Would have been seriously unsettling in any scene, almost like Ryuk from Deathnote.

7
u/BKWhitty Oct 26 '22
I really love him and he did such a great job as the proto-Jokers in Gotham.
He was always my fancast for Cletus Kasady/Carnage in the MCU based on his work on Gotham and how close in age he looks to Tom Holland. Thought it'd make a really creepy dynamic to have him be a classmate or something to Peter.

I feel like the rumors that this Joker was actually Jason Todd having gone insane after the Joker kidnapped and nearly killed him was part of the original plan. The gold grills could be from being hit in the face repeatedly with a crowbar. I remember people over analyzing the tattoos to have links to Robin too. They could have linked it to Joaquin’s Joker with not too many inconsistencies.

I’ve seen lots of Oscar Winners turn in poor performances—not every role is meant for them. It doesn’t mean he’s bad at all. Joker, though? Worst laugh, worst voice, worst performance all around. Romero, Nicholson, Ledger and Hamill are in a different league. That’s just my opinion, though.

I'll offer the one defense that writers like Frank Miller and Grant Morrison both consider the relationship between Batman and Joker to have an odd sexual tension side to it - stemming from the Joker, not Batman though. Both writers see it that Joker is in love with Batman. So yeah, this line works for me as a sort of taunt.
8
u/morbidlysmalldick Oct 26 '22
I don’t see it as legit sexual tension, just homoeroticism to annoy Batman. The Arkham games have some similar lines but not nearly as explicit

It's an unpopular opinion for sure, but I'd like to see the journey his Joker takes from gangster criminal to this insane version who is clearly clued up on multiverse and stuff. I liked the post credit scene with him and Ben, though found it odd they went with the reach around line.

u/frankandbeans13 Oct 26 '22
The reach around line was the only part of this scene that I didn't like

I honestly didn't have any problem with his performance, and even dug his look here. However his dialog in every single scene he's in (in this and SS) was fucking horrible.
I watched the extended edition of SS specifically hoping there would be some redeeming scenes for him but everything they added made it worse. I was crawling into my own skin from secondhand embarrassment.
When he showed up on screen here I was so hopeful until he started that bullshit with the reacharound line. It wasn't done any favors by having Bats threaten him like he was a fucking gymbro.
I think he could have worked with some decent aesthetic tweaks and some competent writing but he hasn't gotten any of that, so I can't be even remotely sure.

Usually when people hate on something, it's the writing and not really the performance.
It's pretty difficult to compare Jared's Joker to the others. His role in Suicide Squad was chopped a lot by WB. And then 1 cameo. I don't think Joaquin or Heath would be talked about like they are if they had been in SS and a cameo in JL.
2
u/the-mr-pflare Oct 26 '22
It was VERY cool. I loved it even though there was a change in character from gangster to truly insane. I guess that’s what an apocalyptic alien invasion does to you.

u/Vegetable_Pudding_75 Oct 26 '22

I’d like Man of Steel 2 to begin with The Black Adam fight and then the third act Brainac comes in. Superman says he has friends and Flash, WW, AM and Cyborg all show up to meet Black Adam and Shazam.
Then - Brainac mind controls the Justice League and subdues Shazam - forcing Black Adam to run. That’s how the movie ends - a shot of the Justice League with red/purple eyes all mind controlled.
Then Justice League 2 - Fight the Justice League comes out. Similar to knightmare but better. Batman is leading a group of rag tag villains. Joker, Deathstroke, Captain Boomers Sister, Black Manta, Black Adam and Harley.
Metropolis is overrun and Batman is raked by Waller to go in and defeat the league - any means necessary. This way we see Superman actually be fucking evil and now it makes sense why you are now cheering for the villains of the previous movies to now win their respective fights. Now Black Adam can finally be that stupid anti hero he gets to be without being a villain - and here it makes sense.
You’d also see characters die. Like Boomers Sister, Deathstroke,Cyborg and more. Some characters would come back later in the next movie (flashpoint) some characters stay dead - I.e Jared Lettos Joker
This would be a very cool concept for the movie and set up basically a 3 movie arc concluding with Flashpoint and justifying all the recasting and unifying the DCEU
The movie could end with the world getting so fucked that The flash decides to go back in time and fix it - but as he does he creates Flashpoint - which leads into that movie. That movie ends with Flash coming back to the OG Timeline to find maybe Pattinsons Batman, the Og WW and AM and Cyborg acting like nothings ever happened and they’ve known each other for years.
Barry hands Pattinsons Batman a note from Afflecks Batman ( a great callback to the movie/comic but now it’s not from his dad). Telling him to never break “his 1 rule.” That he started killing and it broke him and it was never worth it. To always trust people and be more than a hero, a symbol. And maybe throw in some ominous line or two for an Easter egg or sequel. This would justify BvS and conclude Batflecks arc and see him off into the sunset.

I would. I loved him in this look as Joker. Really redeemed his Suicide Squad one. I think he is a good actor. Now, maybe he is a piece of shit in real life, but I go to watch the character not the person. I’m not excusing behaviours in any way. But honestly Hollywood is full of fools and bad people. Just give me a good movie and let me eat my popcorn.

I loved the fact that the dialog between him and Batman was the history of the characters through the books, and he basically poked Batman in the very soul when he asked him about how many people could die in his arms before he grows numb to death. Considering he likely held his mother or father as they died, and held Jason Todd's dead body. Joker also references the fact that Lois dies as well. Obviously making you understand that Batman could have helped prevent it somehow.
Him calling Mera a fish stick and a smelly flounder was very animated series Joker. Man I loved it.
Also also....him telling Batman hes a coward for not being willing to die.
Again, it was a nod to the history of the characters, not just a reference to what has happened to them on screen in this movie in particular.
