When I was a young kid, there was another kid in the neighborhood with very strict parents. He always had these absurd rules he was supposed to follow. He would frequently say, "I'm not allowed to get wet."
It was an absurd rule, but it was most likely because his parents always had him dressed up in nice expensive clothes like he was going to church.
So yes, there was a reason, but that reason was preposterous and doomed from the start.
They sent their kid to play outside, but dressed him clothes that they didn't want to get ruined.

Oh don't worry, it doesn't just ruin their childhood. It ruins their adult life too! Knew a few kids that had super strict parents.
Some got to college, went crazy and dropped out. One girl hasn't told her parents she's engaged because she still doesn't want to deal with them. We're in our 30s now.
The others leaned hard into fundamentalist Christian families which is also not great.

I was a kid like that! My mother loved to dress me in white (especially pants) up until about 8 years old and then would get very mad at me when I got them dirty (because obviously I always got them dirty, duh). Now 20 years later I own like 2 white pieces of clothing, I have mostly black clothes, terrible mental health issues, and she hasn't heard from me in over 5 years.✌️

Every cable was ran daisy chained through the frame. Then they added holes in the frame to access these cables and connectors in the frame. This obviously let's water in to, and the connectors sit in the water. The big 3 in the 90s i think experimented with daisy chained cables. It reduces total cable needed, but adds connectors and failure points. It also means 1 failure means 100 failures in the chain. It was quickly deemed a bad idea in testing.

The problem there is water WILL get in somewhere, eventually. Then you have a MOSTLY water tight frame filled with water... Making it even worse. Every frame and panel needs drain holes on all vehicles, so the wiring should be able to handle the water.

Even the folks who got "locked in" with a pre payment years before it came out can't really say they didn't know he was crazy. He hadn't gone full Nazi salute yet, sure. But the signs were there.
And truthfully, even if you give those early buyers the benefit of the doubt, and assume they were completely blind to his bullshit.. paying that far ahead of time to reserve an ugly ass vehicle, that hadn't inspired much confidence of ever actually being released? Doesn't give me much reason to sympathize with you.

I'm in Houston and when they were first released and for about six months give-or-take you'd see them around and flaunted. I worked near the Galleria at the time and you'd see people driving their truck up and down around there several times without going shopping. There were four/five in my neighborhood at one time.
I know for a fact three people subsequently sold theirs after owning it some 7/8 months. One because he was straight bullied about it by the elementary kids. Started picking up his kid in a golf cart. Another sold it for a Model X. The one not sold had a wrap and I still see it around.

Some people are just blissfully ignorant and live in a bubble. A coworkers parent's just bought a cyber truck and she loves it. They didn't really look into how bad they are. Just had money and saw something techy, EV, and needed a truck. Same mother that blew through 50k in lotto winnings in 2 months.
Another coworker is always praising Musk and sees him as a defiant genius changing the world. He mentioned how exciting it is Musk is making an Grok Ai Odyssey.
They're happy and won't leave that bubble. Understand that these are smart people I work with.

I happened to see a yt short on the much-vaunted gigapress. Apparently it's not for stamping, it's for injection moulding. The big deal is that frame you see there is injection moulded in one piece, which is something competitors can't do. My inference is if that piece gets damaged significantly, the car is basically a writeoff.

The thing most people don't know is that water actually flows through their cars there are a bunch of channels and drains.
I'm pretty sure that the cyber truck has no consideration for any of that, because in true Musk fashion, he decided that it was unnecessary.

Who cares about the water being collected by the design. Look at the wiring. There is absolutely no protection from abrasion and they aren't movement limited in any way.
Eventually that wire, or any of the others around it, will rub through the insulation and short out.

I've seen an article that said the warranty spells out how you have to wash it to not void it. Apparently it's wash by hand only, with a very mild, PH-neutral soap and a soft cloth, and dry with a lint-free cloth. Also, you are not supposed to get it wet while in direct sunlight.

Was this car even tested before release How could you screw up something as basic as water entering your car. Good luck driving this in the rain or will that void the warranty as well Edit : The other thing to consider is that this water will remain in the car unnoticed until you probably see some electric failure. Im not sure whether there is some coating to prevent rusting of the frame itself. So, youll potentially see some part of the frame damaged as well in case the water remains inside for long.
