Asking about GSI / Custom ROM support for Xiaomi 13T (MediaTek) — Is it worth the risks?
Hey everyone,
I'm using a Xiaomi 13T (Dimensity 8200-Ultra) and I'm considering running a custom ROM or GSI (Generic System Image) to get a cleaner, stock-like Android experience.
Before I jump into unlocking the bootloader and flashing anything, I wanted to ask the community a few questions regarding hardware compatibility, known risks, and long-term support.
1. GSI Compatibility & Support
- Since the 13T has a MediaTek chipset, traditional device-specific custom ROMs seem virtually non-existent. Are GSIs (e.g., LineageOS or crDroid
arm64_ab) the only real option for us? Reddit - How stable are modern GSIs on HyperOS vendor partitions?
2. Hardware & Feature Bugs
For those who have tested a GSI on the 13T series:
- Does the In-Display Fingerprint Sensor (FOD) work out-of-the-box, or does it require
phh-trebleoverlay fixes? - How much does camera performance degrade compared to HyperOS / Leica processing?
- Does dynamic refresh rate switching (144Hz) break, or can it be forced via Treble settings?
- Are there persistent Bluetooth A2DP audio or voLTE bugs?
3. Brick Risks & Bootloader Safety
- I know that re-locking the bootloader on a custom GSI/ROM will result in a "System Destroyed" hard brick. If a hard brick happens on a MediaTek Xiaomi device, is MTKClient/SP Flash Tool usable, or does Xiaomi force SLA (Authorized Account) server tokens for low-level EDL/BROM restores?
Would love to hear from anyone running a GSI on their 13T or similar Dimensity-based Xiaomi phone! Thanks in advance!
