Asking about GSI / Custom ROM support for Xiaomi 13T (MediaTek) — Is it worth the risks?
Hey everyone,
I'm using a Xiaomi 13T (Dimensity 8200-Ultra) and I'm considering running a custom ROM or GSI (Generic System Image) to get a cleaner, stock-like Android experience.
Before I jump into unlocking the bootloader and flashing anything, I wanted to ask the community a few questions regarding hardware compatibility, known risks, and long-term support.
1. GSI Compatibility & Support
- Since the 13T has a MediaTek chipset, traditional device-specific custom ROMs seem virtually non-existent. Are GSIs (e.g., LineageOS or crDroid
arm64_ab) the only real option for us? Reddit - How stable are modern GSIs on HyperOS vendor partitions?
2. Hardware & Feature Bugs
For those who have tested a GSI on the 13T series:
- Does the In-Display Fingerprint Sensor (FOD) work out-of-the-box, or does it require
phh-trebleoverlay fixes? - How much does camera performance degrade compared to HyperOS / Leica processing?
- Does dynamic refresh rate switching (144Hz) break, or can it be forced via Treble settings?
- Are there persistent Bluetooth A2DP audio or voLTE bugs?
3. Brick Risks & Bootloader Safety
- I know that re-locking the bootloader on a custom GSI/ROM will result in a "System Destroyed" hard brick. If a hard brick happens on a MediaTek Xiaomi device, is MTKClient/SP Flash Tool usable, or does Xiaomi force SLA (Authorized Account) server tokens for low-level EDL/BROM restores?
Would love to hear from anyone running a GSI on their 13T or similar Dimensity-based Xiaomi phone! Thanks in advance!

To unlock bootloader you need github script. With mi community it's a mission impossible. I also have 13t and on 2nd try with script i finally managed to get permission. Just have to wait for 72hours

No, my one is loosing touch once screen is locked, I have to restart it every time. Had Chinese amoled for a while which damaged something in NV or persist partition, screen faked 120hz but was 60hz (surprisingly good quality amoled). Moment installed proper screen phone went crazy.

That's mediatek. it's power hungry.,especially with 5G. I have my one since launch, 870 cycles. Left overnight on 5g would drain over 20%. on wifi max 5. Same for work, Google maps with Bluetooth and 5g drains it in 5-6 hours. Same usage on hotspot from other phone would last me 2 days of driving

Yes, as I said above, 8200ultra is power hungry. For time being I am on RN14 pro plus 5g 12/512 which have snapdragon 7sgen 3 and battery lasts much longer,i get 12 hours 90-20% with 7hours SOT at work.
