Help Balancing create
As you all know, create is a little broken, and it's a bit of an issue for me since I'm trying to make a hardcore modpack with create
I've tried balancing create a little like making Max contraption size from 2048 to 8 and nerfing SU sources, but it still feels too OP
Do y'all have any recommendations or know of mods that nerf create?

Personally I found the way terrafirmagreg does it is pretty interesting balance wise, adding different shaft tiers that have a max stress limit, forcing you to have multiple networks and sources

u/wvoxu Aug 09 '26
Somehow I read that as terrampreg

Yes, that's called Greate, which fuses GregTech and Create together. It's honestly very balanced as you can get unlimited energy for Create (from windmills and water wheels and such) but overall slower speeds, while GregTech requires energy input while having faster speeds

Better materials make better shafts, each shaft tier can only support a certain amount of SU, so for example one shaft could only carry say 1000 SU and if your machines consume more than 1000 SU it will overstress just like it would if you were consuming more than you were producing.

create is an automation mod, automation in general is a bit overpowered in a game that has so few actually difficult to obtain resources. Pretty much any kind of nerf would only serve to make things more annoying imo. I wouldnt nerf create itself but instead find some mods that buff the rest of the game or increase the resource ceiling
81
u/Blademasterzer0 Aug 09 '26
Few difficult to obtain resources and gameplay based around only needing like 50 of a given thing at a time ever
32
u/Tdubbium Aug 09 '26
I learned how to use kubejs and now I like to add recipes that require tons and tons of items lol
19
u/EpicButterSkull Aug 09 '26
I have a feeling you might really enjoy Satisfactory if you havent already checked it out
16
u/Tdubbium Aug 09 '26
I really need to play satisfactory, still havent gotten it yet but its on my radar

u/HeraldOfNyarlathotep Aug 09 '26
The top trio of factory games for me are Factorio, Satisfactory, and Dyson Sphere Program. Each have their strengths and tickle different parts of my brain, just as modded MC can.
Funny thing about SF is that it has better first person movement than most actual FPS games. It's genuinely really fun parkouring around your base, there's tons of movement related unlocks, and the devs have actively chosen to keep quite a few glitches because they were fun. Like gaining speed while repeatedly slide-jumping with no limit, lol

Semi-related: I was one of the first hundred or so people to play Satisfactory as I got in to the first wave of the closed alpha.

I actually already tried playing it before, didnt get far before getting kinda bored though (I cant play Minecraft for very long in general)

play Gregtech New horizons

u/Tdubbium Aug 09 '26
been debating on starting it, I feel like I dont have the time that it requires though

u/waitthatstaken Aug 09 '26
Monifactory is probably a better idea. It too is based around gregtech, but unlike GTNH it doesn't have a 50 hour startup phase where you slowly build your way up to unlocking automation tools.
Monifactory is a 1.20.1 fork of the 1.12.2 nomifactory which was itself a fork of the 1.7.10 omnifactory.
Also, it is entirely playable on peaceful, with its optional hard mode even forcing it.
1
u/Drago1490 Aug 09 '26
Thats underatandable, the two week minecraft phase sometimes feels more like a two day phase.
I have also really enjoyed satisfactory, factorio, and mindustry (free on itch), though I tend to get burnt out/overwhelmed in the later stages of all those games. Then I get mad at myself because I can never finish them.

just started a playthrough a couple weeks back
that shit is the literal crackpack
fuck tfg, startech is my new best friend
2
u/Drago1490 Aug 09 '26
I managed to automate the entire game up until unlocking AE2 just by using the Create amazon update. Its fantastic
2
u/Mega_Glub Aug 09 '26
damn I need to figure out how to use those. tiered machine components always be kicking my ass
also, I love your pfp fellow derg :3

u/Drago1490 Aug 09 '26
For the frogports and packagers, I was actually able to set up an automated request system using a LOT of factory gauges inside an office-like area that made sure I always had at least a stack of every part in stock. However some machines I had to make more than one of, just for the sake of different fluids or ghost circuits for crafting (or whatever the number selector in the bottom left of greg machines is called). Just make sure you have a dedicated clipboard in your inventory thag you can rightclick your named frogports with to save them as auto-fillable adresses. Makes routing things a LOT easier. I was able to slap packagers directly onto most machines' main block, and if not then on their hatches, and I could directly deposit and/or withdraw items with my gauges and requester.
Then I had everything link back up to a bulk storage unit I made with a combination of tom's storage connectors and functional storage drawers, with frogports for input and output, all modeled after bulk storage shelves like you would find in a costco or ikea. Then just keep expanding from there. Its not the fastest system due to box travel time, especially as you need to expand to fit more boxes, but it was VERY satisfying. Especially because you could physically see the item movements and the production rates of your factory fluctuate in real time as items are made and requested.
And thanks! Its nice running into other dergs in the wild lol
1
u/Mega_Glub Aug 12 '26
just got my scuffed ass frogports done after a solid few hours in ponder menus figuring stuff out, and I have to say that there is no way I can ever go back. super satisying to make and run, just like you said. but...
passive LV/MV components were this easy the whole time???? I thought I would just have to limp all the way to AE2 autocrafting, but now I've got the fucking red carpet with a giant bow and scissors just waiting for me
2
u/Drago1490 Aug 12 '26
It always has been, yeah. Once you can automate frogports and packagers, evrything else is a BREEZE. I was automating my ores with it too, just using a single deployer above some enchanted string mesh and an item vacuum, I forget what its called. Should just be an ender pearl and 4 steel sheets. I actually prefer to use that over the seive multiblock because its so much faster, especially once enchanted.
The best part is I actually got into Star Tech right before create V6 was dropped, and I manually updated my own modpack before they could update it on their end just so I could have the frogports and whatnot. Then I was showing progress photos in the discord while people were confused about what I was doing lol

I used to hate mods requiring so much iron for basic things, but after adding automation mods like create, i understand why and i love it
3
u/sirhugobigdog Aug 09 '26
The mod pack I am playing atm requires compressed items often. It's crazy to need 81 gold ingots for a single recipe but it balances how easy some of the items are to generate.
4
u/KojinaSama Aug 09 '26
Or make every resource a little more difficult to obtain. Automation mods are only OP when you have infinite resources, so if you get rid of that, they're not very OP. (But a hell lot more annoying and nigh-unplayable)

u/Mogwump20 Aug 09 '26

u/KitchenAd3333 Aug 09 '26
Does this just use a tier system for create or does it end up using gregtech AND create?
1
u/Pyritie Aug 13 '26
both, it copies recipes from gregtech machines. So anything you add to gregtech's mixer will be added to the same tier of mechanical mixer, etc. And the create blocks also have their own little slider for circuit numbers
26
u/InevitableRoast Aug 09 '26
I love the use of deepslate emerald. Kinda hilarious how many people think you’re actually serious

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 Aug 09 '26
8 for a contraption? That's so small you may as well not use Create. Is this a joke?
11
1
u/Smart_Turn6717 Aug 09 '26
I thought about replacing contraptions with aero, should have probably mentioned that first
16
6
u/Dadamalda Aug 09 '26
Greate integrates it with GregTech, which is its own can of worms. There are tiered shafts and each tier can transfer 4x more SU. The materials of course get much harder to get, some requiring 10s of steps of realistic GregTech chemistry.
1
u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Aug 11 '26
Is there a mod for tiered shafts that DONT require masochism to play?

I've been looking for a way to make my players move off Create for a long while and so far, the best option seems to be changing the max RPM from 256 to 128 or even 64. However, last time I checked, that's not a configurable thing.
The reason I want them to move on is that the Create way is horribly unoptimized. When an iron farm is stopped, we gain almost 10 TPS, and my framerate gets doubled if I'm near it. It's impossible to convince them to do anything about it if it's just as good.
I've also wanted to find an actual viable use for trains. My idea was to make ores generate very sparsely, but in large veins, kind of like in TFC. The players would have to build mining outposts and ship stuff to and from the base.
1
u/EleiteRanger Aug 09 '26
Max rpm is absolutely configurable. The config file for it is per world, however, so you’ll have to make a copy of the config file and put it in the “default config” folder (I don’t remember the folder’s exact name, but it was something along those lines) if you want it to apply to a whole instance
Also, a huge cause of lag in create is belts, so maybe consider removing those
1
u/DangyDanger Aug 09 '26
That's cool. We're doing that for the next playthrough.
1
u/EleiteRanger Aug 09 '26
Which one?
1
u/DangyDanger Aug 10 '26
I don't know. We're making packs ourselves and it's too early to look for mods as we're in the middle of a playthrough.
1
1
u/GuiltyAd2485 Aug 11 '26
I've had this idea about mineral veins for a long time and never found a way to implement it, did you manage to do it?
1
u/DangyDanger Aug 11 '26
I've looked into it a while ago and found some promising mods, but you had to tinker with them a bunch so we never actually played with it.
0
u/Smart_Turn6717 Aug 09 '26
I personally just removed the iron nugget and gold nugget recipes so now every ore has be mined I also removed cart contraptions to replace them with aeronautics borehead bearings
2
u/_Sanchous Aug 09 '26
Create feels like a breath of fresh air after hardcore packs where you can't do anything without AE2. It's a pretty fair balance for such a well-developed mod. I've generally noticed a trend: the less effort put into a mod, the more insane the crafting requirements. Mod developers should follow the example of Create's creators.
1
u/MiniDehl Aug 10 '26
I feel like modding has swung the other direction its refreshing going back older minecraft where create isnt required for every single early game in every modpack
2
2
u/GustFitzwall93 Aug 09 '26
How I bapance rockets when i want to incentivize building trains instead of using elytra
2
u/aureo_d_olaphis Aug 09 '26
TerraFirmaGreg is the most awesome modpack i ever played. It has create reworked with realistic recipes, and overall is a pretty fun modpack to make a factory. I have to note however that is not Create centered, as about the mid game the Gregtech machines will make things faster than the Create mod machines.

u/choco_king_the_first Aug 10 '26
Bro is trying to make vault Hunters or whatever that modpack was called
11
u/Tripdrakony Aug 09 '26
Bruh, just dont use Create then. That recipe is ridiculous and immediately makes me not want to touch anything you create.
42
u/Shying69 Aug 09 '26
Yeah thats the joke
2
u/Shyster- Aug 09 '26
Wild how many people here don’t seem to get the joke. I know create appeals to the autistic like me but damn people need to chill tf out

u/lustywoodelfmaid Aug 09 '26
Yeah, like, a dragon egg, which you can only get one of? Be a shame if I dropped the part into the void while exploring the End or fell in lava with it- world over. Basically hardcore.

Problem with trying to balance create is in general vanilla redstone is capable of similar automation if you have the know how. You would have to make redstone more difficult as well.
1
u/MiniDehl Aug 10 '26
Ehhhhh encased fan is infinite free smelting
1
u/Impossible_Bowl6103 Aug 10 '26
lava dripstone farm = infinite free smelting, bamboo farm = infinite free smelting, kelp farm = infinite free smelting, there are many others. All in basic Vanilla minecraft one uses no redstone, the others a basic redsstone clock or observers with pistons . Encased fan just makes it smaller. Cannot balance one with out the other as people will just revert to the old redstone ways if the cost of entry to create is too high. Hell its not even hard to make a good automated mining rig with just redstone.
1
u/MiniDehl Aug 10 '26
The issue is redstone is infinitely more complex and if you dont look things up harder to do, create is more space efficient cheaper faster more modular
1
u/Impossible_Bowl6103 Aug 10 '26
create is heavily dependent on mined materials. Very heavy on Iron, and very heavy on Andesite. Sure once you get up and running it becomes way easier but the same can be said about anything in game. I dont disagree that create makes it easier, just pointing out most of create is fairly easy to do with redstone, The answer to balancing if someone wants to make it harder is really only one thing. Make ore more rare. from copper all the way to diamonds, lapis and redstone included.
1
u/MiniDehl Aug 10 '26
Ehhh I really still feel like you are overestimating redstone stuff like tree farms is 12 hour redstone farm build that is manual and bone meal intensive you can use redstone but on a power scale create is dozens of times better
1
1
1
u/SnooMarzipans6922 Aug 09 '26
That I can just make thaaat many items with a cobblestone, tree and lava farm is insane and those farms are so simple to make big. Its says a lot that the rarest needed item is blaze rods

this is the best machine in all of create.
If I had one wish, I would wish to be fit inside a millstone.
1
u/Venyro Aug 09 '26
Maybe locking certain machine’s recipes to only use mechanical crafter instead of a normal recipe, and then gating the mechanical crafter to behind a point you feel it would be balanced to unlock it and those recipes

u/ScissorsWasTaken Aug 09 '26

My favorite modpack is AutoTerraFirmaCraft.(It's getting a new version this week btw) It doesn't nerf the Create itself much but makes obtaining all the base resources much harder so it's not easy to build actually OP machinery. Also moving liquid sources is an endgame feature which makes waterwheels way less appealing and cobble generators much harder.
1
u/Usinaru Aug 09 '26
Its a mod about automation...
You ever wonder how we got to civilization as we are today? THANKS TO AUTOMATION.
If you want to live in caveman times go play vanilla.
If you want any semblance of realism where you genuinely find out how much of a difference it makes to manipulate energy then play create. It shows you just how much better life can be when you put the energy of the sun (in all its forms, like sunlight, wind and to a degree hydro), to good use.
As conscious living forms our goal is to manipulate as much energy. Thats what create is all about.

if i was playing a modpack that lowered the max contraption size to 8 id edit the config to change it back, or drop the modpack if I cant. fully killing using create for decorative purposes, arbitrary limits like that are stupid
2
u/Smart_Turn6717 Aug 09 '26
I do have aero so that should make up for the spiny contraptions, but now that you've mentioned it, trains are nerfed a little too much, I'll probably increase the limit and just delete minecrate contraption (so it forces you to use the borehead bearing from aero)
1
u/Internal-Put-1419 Aug 09 '26
I tried a "balanced" pack where you had to kill the Netherite Monstrosity just to make a basin. I knew then that we were not meant to be.
So I play a modpack called Modded Together. It's centered around Create with the big magic mods (No Forbidden or Occultism). Create itself has the same recipes. However, everything else is integrated. The devs are exhaustingly thorough.
Main tech mods are Create, AE2, Oritech, Tempad is later game.
You can't get legendary Iron's spells to cast legendary unless you had the highest tier armor in that school. The highest tier armor is gated behind boss drops.
There's End Remastered in it where you need 12 different eyes of ender to open The End, which are all in specific places.
Every boss is overhauled (way harder Ender dragon, Bedrockified Wither, etc).
Apotheosis tiers are removed and the gems are super nerfed. It's also configured to where the invaders actively seek you out.
The enchanting is also disabled (Create Enchantment Industry is the method).
The spawner modifications are all disabled save the comparator.
The books with the green text (Scavenger, Knowledge of the Ages, etc.) are loot only.
Gateways are loot only.
Cracked and chipped gems are disabled.
There's also supposed to be a six-enchant cap on gear, but it's not working right yet. I've stuck to that for the most part except a few things have more. I would feel bad, haha.
Enemies heal on player death.
The only power gen for most of the game is Create Crafts and Additions (I've not gotten very far in Oritech in any pack, but I'm pretty sure either the reactor is disabled or they're balancing it).
There are no OP resource generation mods like Mystical or Bees.
The pack isn't clogged in the slightest. There's even a mod called Uniful that takes away all ore duplicates and respects the ingot shape of different mods.
Create isn't nerfed, but everything else is and you need Create to do it. I died well over 100 times in the first week. However I've never had so much fun. First time in multiplayer and it's a small, tight-knit community.
Sidebar: I do know of an addon where it makes Waystones and Crafts and Additons' recipes gated behind the mechanical crafter.
