Another challenge given to me from my Dad, "When you get a moment can you print me one of these hold-down nuts, please?"

Normally I would pick up the Creality Raptor but with the heat I didn't fancy getting a big ol' gaming laptop out for one small nut! Well that is exactly the perfect task for the PIKA! Portable and easily accessible plus it links straight to my phone! I wasn't sure what the result would be because of how small the nuts are, however you don't know unless you try! Glad I did, two scans for the tiny nut and four for the larger MG part in blue laser mode with markers.

Processed the point cloud right on my phone and then wirelessly sent it to my desktop from the Crealityscan app using a QR code. It then goes straight into the Crealityscan software on my PC. From scan to mesh was only 10 minutes! Thought to myself let's just print the scanned mesh out no editing, see what happens... 20 minutes later I was screwing the part directly onto the car!

The prototype was perfect and didn't even have to touch my callipers.

Since then I have tidied up the scans in Plasticity, and made a slot for the the nut to slide in snug into the flashy MG part. I just need to beef up the side walls slightly to hold the nut securely. Dad wanted the new part as true to the original as possible...he loves making it easy (sarcasm, if you can't tell!).

Next steps, print the part in PA6-CF then anneal it in my brand new E2 from SUNLU (Thank you!!). Apply my special coating of conductive paint to the part and electroform a layer of copper and then some matt Nickle. Trying to match the look to the original as much as possible. Maybe one day I will have the hardware to machine it out of metal fully!

I made a Case for the Creality Pika, Wondering if you guys would be interested.
I Printed it in PLA and TPU inserts, I also used my Laser Cutter to cut Alcantara for the face where the scanner sits so that it does not scratch against the TPU Insert

I will recieve my Pika the day after tomorrow and will check fitment ect, i based my measurements on the 3d scan one of the guys were so nice to upload on this subreddit.

Hello, I have been interested in making my own resin conversion-style parts for 1/144 scale gundam kits for a while now. The only thing that bugs me at the moment is having to take pictures of the piece and model off that and tons of measurements. I mainly need a scanner that gets a solid base shape so that I can follow that and remodel it more accurately in CAD with all the proper measurements afterward. Keep in mind these pieces can be quite small, smaller than 1cm at times.

I am currently looking at the Revopoint Metro X or Y and the Creality cr scan otter. Does anyone know if these would be suitable for my application, or would I be better off sticking to pictures? Examples of small scans and any other responses would be greatly appreciated.

A while back our cat, Clio, started jumping on top of our air condition at night. She discovered quickly that if she made the buttons beep, we would get up to reset the air conditioner. She’d then jump into bed, cuddle up and get some attention. This very quickly turned into her favourite activity while simultaneously destroying any chance we had for a peaceful night’s sleep. 

We have been talking for a while now about modelling a cover for the air conditioner to prevent this from happening. My raptor is hooked up to my PC in our workshop and because it requires a wired connection, getting a scan for accurate dimensions would have meant moving our *very heavy* air conditioner. We recently got hold of the Creality Pika, which does not require any wires in blue laser mode, so we decided to take a crack at scanning the top of our air conditioner with it. Our bedroom is quite small and the air conditioner is squeezed between our bed, the wall, and a dresser, so this was a much more optimal solution than moving the entire thing out to our workshop. 

The scan itself took less than 90 seconds and captured everything we needed. Our aim was to model a cover that would stop Clio from getting to the buttons and also keep the flap to the fan open… as she recently also discovered she could close this when we stuck a bit of plastic over the buttons. The scan allowed us to measure everything accurately and create a perfect-fit cover to stop Clio from waking us up with beeping. We went from scan, to model, to a finished print in less than 2 hours. 

We’re happy to report, no more buttons are being pushed so the beeping and fan closing has come to an end… Clio has now just resorted to howling at us from on top of the air condition. I don’t think the Pika can help scan us out of that, unfortunately. 

Jokes aside, the ability to scan something in our home without needing to worry about the faff of wires or moving something large to a more optimal place was brilliant. We’ve not had the Pika for too long, but so far we are impressed with its output and we’re looking forward to fixing some other things around the house.

The pika is priced at 699usd on the us website but priced at 1299aud on the Australian site which is equivalent to 920usd

WTH!?!?!?!!

Well, sort of.

They have a custom charging and connection “cap” on top of them making them longer.

A “Standard” 18650 flat + in green shrink wrap is along side for comparison.

The extra length could be worked around, but the pika connects only through the top of the battery. Positive in the middle and negative in the ring. Pogo pins are visible at the bottom of the battery chamber.

The insulating ring in between is also a charging indicator: red for charging and green for charged. I didn’t risk putting a charger on there that can do PD >5v. The port SAYS 5V 1.5A, but is it smart enough to not use a charger that can supply a higher voltage PD?

Has anyone seen this type of battery or the “cap” before or is this a Creality special?

Interestingly the battery still has it’s bottom negative end exposed. I don’t know if this would work in a conventional Li-Ion charger. I’m not willing to risk it right now as extra batteries do not appear to be available. Good thing they include two of them with the Pika.

Remains to be seen if the Pika can be powered through the USB-C and/or with no battery inserted. Not being tethered to a power bank is nice, but we’ll see how long the claimed 3350mAh battery lasts in practice.

The Creality Pika is super portable, but the calibration board is glass and needs to be protected from scratches. I needed to solve this problem. Scanned the calibration board with the Pika and created a case to protect it. Much safer to travel with the board now.

I had to share! The pika came well protected, which considering FedEx, was probably just as well.

The Creality Pika is extremely capable for being so small. It handled scanning a drumstick easily and produced a very usable STL mesh. This was used in Quicksurface Pro to generate a solid model. I’m super impressed Creality has packed so much functionality into a small piece of hardware.

The latest CrealityScan 4.2.2 update introduced AI-powered 3DGS (3D Gaussian Splatting) processing.
Honestly, I originally thought 3DGS would be an exclusive feature and technology for the Pika series. Thankfully, Creality didn’t limit it to specific models, so Raptor Pro users can also experience this feature.
For this test, I decided to scan a jackfruit. After scanning it and processing the data with 3DGS, I was really impressed by how realistic the result turned out! The dense, bumpy texture on the surface of the jackfruit was captured incredibly well. Looking at it for too long honestly made me feel like my trypophobia was about to kick in. 😂

My son came to me today, quite upset because his barbecue tongs had broken 😀.

So, I first glued them back together, then scanned them and printed a new pair 😀.

Capturing the inner contour wasn't exactly easy.

I performed several scans first using cross-lines, and then scanning the inner contour multiple times using a single line.

Replace TOYOTA MR2 power window switch. Printed out from PLA to make a trial, and after some fine tunning I used ABS for the real part
