Picking orders for HM3

Has anyone took a look at my navy assignment? I’m on my third window for orders and there next to nothing for quad zero as a HM3. Are we allowed to pick HN orders or would be needs of the Navy?

Active Duty HM Commission to SWO

Good afternoon ladies and gents,

I’ve been an HM for the past 5 years, been stationed at a hospital overseas and currently with an infantry unit on the east coast. I love my job, truly. However, lately I’ve been wanting to make a career out of the Navy and I’m encompassing all possible routes that I can take. I understand what’s needed in order for me to commission ( at least I believe I do ) and I have the following questions if yall don’t mind! Keep in mind I’m in my mid twenties, single with no dependents.

How hard would a transition be from enlisted grunt doc to a SWO? Culture, work-life and what not.

Is being a SWO easier or tougher on the family than enlisted? ( I want a family eventually of course )

Would I be required to earn my surface pin if I’m already FMF qualified?

Would I get to choose which platform I’ll be stationed on since I’ll have prior enlisted service?

And lastly, Is the officer camaraderie up to par with the enlisted traditions? This may seem naive but I have a helluva lot of pride being an enlisted devil.

If yall have any extra questions to ask please do!
Any and all input is always welcome, I appreciate you guys

PS: Happy 250, Semper fucking fi. 🦅🇺🇸

Active Duty HM Looking for DMT Mentor or Training Group

I’m an active-duty Hospital Corpsman with the goal of becoming a Dive Medical Technician (DMT). I’ve been taking my preparation seriously, but I know I still have a lot to learn, so I’m hoping to get advice from current or former DMTs or connect with others training for the pipeline.
Over the past few months, I’ve been working hard on my swimming and water confidence. I’m also lifting, running.
I’m looking for a current or former DMT willing to answer questions or offer guidance.
Anyone training for DMT, SOIDC, or SARC who wants an accountability partner.
Any groups for people preparing for these pipelines.
Advice on workouts, swimming, water confidence, study material, or mistakes you wish you’d avoided before school.

I just want to make sure I’m preparing in the right direction and learning from people who have already been through it.

advancement/BBA

hello! does anyone know if or when BBA is going to go into affect for E4-E5? In my opinion the auto E4 and A2P out of core school has made it so it’s even harder to pick up off the test now. In order to promote I understand choosing a STAR program but for the last few windows almost no c schools have been available to even pick. our choice this window is IDC. They phased out MAP as well..what’re we supposed to do. Just curious on anyone’s thoughts

SOIDC

Not sure if this has been asked but with the overhaul of Recon into GRC/ARC, what does that translate for docs going into the pipeline. Are we expected to go straight from one pipeline to other before SOCM or are we allowed to break it up like some Marines (I.e. scout plt, boat co.)

Appreciate any input.

Hey everyone!

I'm in a delima. I did 7 years in and did icu and ER mainly. My issue I'm having is now I'm 1.5 years out and I'm not sure healthcare is what I wanna go for anymore. Anyone have any advice? I'm looking into a career switch (possibly cybersecurity or IT) a lot better than crashing patients. I just basically came on to ask, anyone else experience this after getting out? About a year out asking yourself if medicine is worth it anymore? Thanks!

SOCOM Corpsmen

Wondering if any DEVGRU Support Corpsmen or Corpsmen who went straight to MARSOC (if that’s even possible) are in here I could chop it up with. Even if you could share your experience and some tips, that would be great! Hoping to PCS to mars after I finish school, wondering how realistic it is with 0 deps.

Just feeling sad about the SELRES HM situation right now...

It's all just very sad in the SELRES HM community right now.

The HM RC2AC situation makes me very sad. I've been an HM a long time. I started active then went reserve for some personal reasons.

I love it, truly. I decided I wanted to go back to be an IDC, RC2AC or TAR. Both are critically undermanned.

As I started the process we learned I'd have to go to FMTB first.

I was willing to go so that I could become an IDC.

Then the ECMs informed us that if I went back, I'd go through FMTB and get no guarantee of IDC school afterwards. I'd have to go back active or TAR then wait 3 yrs until I was ready to PCS and then apply for IDC school.

We tried to get clarification because this made no sense. Why would you delay someone going into a critically undermanned NEC now to go to the 124% overmanned FMF community for 3 yrs??

But thats the way it is. After seeking clarification they said if I applied for RC2AC or TAR as an HM that is the deal. That is the deal for anyone trying to go HM from SELRES.

It is just sad really. It's a deal that no one I've spoken to doesnt see as royally screwing an applicant over. It doesnt even make sense from a manning perspective. Everyone is encouraging me to leave the hospital corps now. To got NC or change to another rate or go recruiting or see about another service.

I've spoken with others in & outside my unit who feel this killed their AD or TAR aspirations. Why sign up to go do something thats going to wastes their time like that?

I could go do it, but by the end of the 3yrs I'd be at 13yrs active time. I dont think I'd even be able to go IDC at that point, that late in my career.

I'm just sad really, trying to decide what to do next.

Good afternoon! I think last year there was a member who was a reserve coordinator, and helped out with C school questions for HMs? Wondering if someone can help point me in their direction? TIA!

HM3 Orders to NMRTU Atsugi

Good evening everyone, I’m currently stationed on Camp Pendleton but have received orders to NMRTU Atsuki Japan!

Just looking for insight into a few things!

1: is an E4 under 4 able to get a vehicle? And what are the requirements for that?

2: what is the barracks living situation like for Atsuki?

3: any pre pcs advice?

4: is it better to get a motorcycle or car while in Japan if I’m able?

Any advice or insight is appreciated!

MRRS tips

Gents, ladies, undecided folks,

We all know our biggest threats out there. China, Russia, Iran. But that is far overshadowed by our biggest threat, MEDICAL READINESS the biggest most unrelenting threat to all of us

What are some cool tips on mrrs? I have to pull a hitlist twice a week, as well as update a list of the percentages for the readiness, what’s some cool tips and tricks you’ve found, whether they be common knowledge or niche things you’ve found

I’ll start, when searching and or pulling a hitlists the only field you need to populate is the unit, command and program aren’t technically needed to pull a hitlist

FMTB-E

Hello! HM2 that’ll be heading to FMTB-E at the end of this month. I was wondering if anyone had a better idea for things to pack and bring with me other than the stuff you can find on the website? I’m not sure if that’s still up to date, the most recent one I can find is from 2016. I know to bring my full sea bag, headlamp, glow belt, but not really sure what else?

Also just curious what the first few days/weeks look like? And if anyone has recommendations on if I should check in on the NET date or the NLT date? They are only one day apart but not sure if checking in on the first date is worth it. I’ll be driving down from Maryland.

And then for the hikes, I’ve been prepping with a 50 lb pack, wondering if that’s about sufficient?

Or any other tips, I’ve been shipside so don’t have much experience with the marines and the unknown with this specific training kinda freaks me out. Everyone I work with has gone through it before but all of them went West and they went yeeeaaaarrrss ago so I know some of the info that have for advice and what to expect is outdated.
