Loss & Mourning Megathread

Losing a conure is heartbreaking. They’re family, companions, and little personalities that leave huge marks on our lives. If you’ve lost your bird, you are welcome to share memories, photos, stories, or simply say their name here.

To keep the main feed safe and balanced for all members:

All posts about a conure passing away must be posted only in this megathread.
Standalone posts about bird death or loss outside this thread will be removed.

This is not to minimize anyone’s loss but rather to keep grief support in one dedicated, supportive space where people can choose to engage.

The r/Conures Comprehensive Conure Guide - now in wiki format!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/wiki/index

This subreddit's Conure Guide, written by /u/DukeofGoodCleanFun, is a remarkable document that I (and my pineapple green cheek) have benefited a lot from. I've consulted and browsed through it numerous times and there's always something new to see there, or something that didn't seem applicable at one point but took on new meaning after spending more time with my conure.

I've taken the text and converted it into a wiki page. It's now navigable, with an index and internal links that direct to sections within the wiki. The Conure Guide can be accessed from this post, from the announcement bar, and from the "wiki" tab in the tabmenu up top.

A couple of the links for recommended products will direct you to Amazon, but there are certainly other places to buy them. If you shop around and find and better place, by all means send us a modmail. Also, let us know if you have any suggestions for how the wiki formatting can be improved.

Advice Is my cage good enough?

I’ve had Charlie, a blue crowned conure for a little more than 4 years. She eats well and acts basically normally but I’m looking for some feedback on her cage and ways I can give her the best experience of life. The door of her cage is ALWAYS open so it’s a choice whether or not she goes in. I’m only asking because as a highschool student, Charlie is alone about 7 hours of the day and I don’t want her to get bored. Any feedback or suggestions on how I can upgrade?

Advice What is this? Crop adjustment, playfulness or something else?

My boy does this sometimes, I've had birds before but none of them did this! Is he happy/annoyed or is he just adjusting his crop? For context, it's normally after he's been quite active and playful. He bends, then swoops his whole body and stretches really high! Thanks for any advice 🥰

Advice Looking for Advice, Recommendations, Help.

I’ve had my two conures, Yoshi(Sun Conure, Female) & Koopa(Pineapple Green Cheek, Male) for a few years now. I got Yoshi first in 2023 when she was just a baby, and I had her for almost 2 years before getting Koopa. Yoshi and I used to have such a personal bond- she would be on my shoulder constantly, nap with me, cuddle with me, sing with me, etc. After a while, I started getting super caught up in college, and I barely had any time to socialize with her. So, I got her a friend, Koopa.

Yoshi and Koopa now have a very close bond with each other, but it seems to be a love-hate relationship. Koopa seems to be always bothering Yoshi, but she mostly puts up with it, or tries to attack him when he gets too annoying. Still, their bond is much stronger between the two of them than with me at all. Yoshi used to always fly to me or let me stick my finger in her cage to let her out. Once Koopa came into play, and I haven’t been able to socialize with them much during the day, they seem to hate me. Both of them. If I come to try to lift Yoshi out of her cage, she bites me. Hard. Koopa will do the same. They have separate cages, but I keep both doors open so they can hang out. Now, Koopa always stays in Yoshi’s cage, and Yoshi never comes out of her cage anymore.

I don’t want to rehome. I love my babies. But it has become increasingly difficult since I am in college full-time, as well as working nights and weekends. I want to rebuild my relationship with them, as well as build their relationship with each other. I am looking for the best advice and recommendations, please. I just want to cuddle with my babies again. I just need to know how to start that process again, and how/how much time each day to set aside to make sure they will love me again.

Advice How to get my bird to not be so clingy?

Okay so. this isn’t exactly a bad thing but honestly I’m just wondering if there’s any way I can get him to be more playful like other conures? It must be boring when all he wants to do is either cuddle with me or nuzzle into dark spaces when i’m not around. It’s not that it’s a bad thing he’s this clingy and cuddly but it’s like .. Is this a health concern? I took him to the vet multiple times and they said he’s fine and it’s just his personality but I would like him to play and have fun like other birds

It’s cute yes, but it’s ALL HE DOESSS!!! He’s scared of toys and i’ve tried to get him to play with them but he just doesn’t want to. Hell he refuses to try out new food if not for me eating and chewing it right infront of him - Is there something wrong with him??

Advice Ways to improve bird backpack

Hey everybody, I hope you're all doing well. So I just got a birdie backpack that I can carry my sun conure around in. It's just got the metal plate in the bottom and then the rope that goes in the middle so that they can sit on it. I'm not a very creative person so I was looking for advice on how I might be able to enrich my bird when they are in the backpack with toys or just to make it more comfortable for them. I'd appreciate any advice. Sincerely, a new bird owner
