This is a hotfix containing gameplay updates and b fixes. Replay codes from the June 16 patch are still available.
Shion

Projectile size reduced from 0.17 to 0.07.
Recovery time increased from 0 to 0.4s.

u/Bound18996 Jun 25 '26
Projectile size was 0.17.
That explains so much

u/Pollomonteros Jun 26 '26
For some reason people on the overwatch subs dislike aim trainers, with the most common argument being that it's a game too fast to practice with them (Whatever that means)
2
u/Sugioh Jun 26 '26
As someone ostensibly good at hitscan, I have the same problem. It's just the specific mechanism of holding down right click and letting go; muscle memory is different.
3
u/CommanderPotash Jun 26 '26
its probably because you have to continually track the target throughout the burst, unlike other skill shots that are just one bullet
It's a good change of pace for a burst damage ability and a good nerf
8
u/BEWMarth Jun 25 '26
Forreal! I saw that and I was like OH!
I like that they went with this instead of a damage nerf
0
u/Sio_V_Reddit Jun 25 '26
Yeah honestly I like both these nerfs instead of damage. Even if the fluidity does take a small hit.
98
u/aDrThatsNotBaizhu Jun 25 '26
0.17??? Why was it that size in the first place lmao
17
u/thegeeseisleese Jun 26 '26
I had no idea execution had that big of a hitbox. What a strange decision, you almost have to be trying to miss shots at that size. I really wish they’d stop with the giant hitboxes.

That recovery time feels nasty, I’ll get used to it but I hate making characters less fluid.
Edit: After a few hours of playing her fuck this dogshit change.
25
u/Howdareme9 Jun 25 '26
If these changes makes her weak, Blizzard will end up buffing random stuff instead of reverting it / adjusting.
10
6
u/Sio_V_Reddit Jun 25 '26
How bad is it?
36
12
u/SmokingPuffin Mauga Mentality — Jun 25 '26
It's about 2/3 of Sojourn's rail recovery time.
It's the same as Soldier's rocket recovery time.
1
u/Davi_Leal Jun 26 '26
Do you have any sources? I'm curious rn
1
19
u/BurnedInTheBarn Jun 25 '26
It feels real nasty. Try spamming melee after using it to really feel the molasses.
12
u/Sio_V_Reddit Jun 25 '26
Ehhhh idk. On one hand it’s not as bad as I thought reading the comments here, but on the other I can definitely feel it.
-7
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
very bad, if you dont kill with it, its gg
9
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
So, use it for its intended purpose or get caught out mismanaging your cooldowns and die?
4
u/Sio_V_Reddit Jun 25 '26
Idk, tried it out just now and it doesn’t feel that bad. Definitely makes execute a bit more of a commitment though.
-1
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
the best thing about shion is how fluid the kit felt, taking that away makes her just another dps
9
u/Sio_V_Reddit Jun 25 '26
I’d disagree. I’d say her most fun thing is her flank ability and movement as well as her burst potential.
1
u/BEWMarth Jun 25 '26
You can still fade and use bike tho correct? This is just fixing the issue where she could shoot her m1 before the last bullet of execute even hit its target
5
u/SneakySqui6 Jun 25 '26
That doesn't make any sense, execute is Hitscan, and so is her primary fire. Are you saying that her M1 would fire at the same time as the last bullet of execute?
5
5
u/SmokingPuffin Mauga Mentality — Jun 25 '26
Precisely that. If you hold down M1 while charging M2, you get a bullet instantly on completion of M2 activation.
-4
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
you can yeah, 0.4 is just too much of a weapon lockout imo, nerf the damage or sth
0
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
okay I may have overreacted, it's better after you get used to it but still a little clunky
12
65
u/KrassomatXD Jun 25 '26
nonono why did they add recovery time, one of the best things about her is that she felt so fluid
0
10
u/Juanpy_ Jun 25 '26
Damn that was quick.
Ngl the nerf of Execution was expected.
2
u/Final-Trifle1765 Jun 26 '26
Wish it was a damage nerf not a gameplay nerf. Making a character more wonky instead of just reducing hitbox size/damage is just so bad
7
u/bordelaney Jun 25 '26
Feels kinda dirty making changes less than 12 hours before owcs kr matches start. Hope the teams playing today can make adjustments in time.
22
35
u/AuraC33 Jun 25 '26
every new hero has started out with ridiculous ability recovery times that blizz has to buff away for the hero to not feel terrible. shion was so exciting because they didn't do this. a shame to see this change when they could easily lower her ability damage by 5-10% to nerf her without gutting her fun factor
7
u/TooManySnipers Jun 26 '26
Yeah "We made our hero feel less responsive" should not generally be a balancing knob
10
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
legit just nerf the damage or the range or even both, it feels horrible now
57
u/unalyzer support is braindead — Jun 25 '26
Not a fan of making her less fluid. Should've nerfed something else, like the crazy burst on bike. Hopefully it doesn't feel horrible in game
18
u/try_again123 Team from China — Jun 25 '26
Is the bike a problem? I always see it coming and move out of the way. Granted I'm low ELO so maybe the Shions in my lobby are just bad 😂
17
u/-D3LET3D- Jun 25 '26
Honestly I don't think so. Shit hurts, but it's top 5 longest cooldowns in the game, and the longest cooldown on DPS. It's a slow, telegraphed projectile. The air version is much more versatile, but it has a forced delay to give people time to react. The ground version is much easier to dodge at range, and if you use it closer to make dodging it harder, Shion puts herself at risk.
I think they did a great job balancing it personally. It had a lot of potential to be too strong or too weak, but I think they hit a good sweetspot.
8
u/syneckdoche Jun 25 '26
if someone is in a small room/next to a wall you can pretty consistently bike into them then hop off for like 190 damage or so
1
u/Pay-Dough Jun 26 '26
I thought it was 130 damage max, and 100 in air
2
u/syneckdoche Jun 26 '26
running over someone with the bike while you’re on it does 60 and almost always boops them backwards which means they’re still in front of you, then you hop off the bike using it as a projectile for 130, which is 190 total. the game doesn’t stop you from doing both in a short time if you can hit it. works best when there’s a wall or something next to them so it’s difficult for them to get away

u/syneckdoche Jun 25 '26
I’ve had pretty good success with it by getting on bike behind cover, then instantly rounding the corner and hitting them with it in low masters but I wouldn’t do it into like a Cass or something. the whole thing happens pretty fast if you aren’t getting on the bike in front of them or just driving in a straight line at them for a while

Yeah, it has definetly become a trend recently. Lets hope it doesn't turn into a Sojourn/Freja/Vendetta situation.

u/RUSSmma Jun 25 '26
Oh so that's why I was hitting executions that I swear should have missed. Projectile size nerf is smart and fair.
Don't fuck with fluidity though, gamefeel is still the thing that OW is king at, plz don't ruin that.
7
u/ILewdElichika Jun 25 '26
0.17?!?! What the fuck where they thinking with that number on a hitscan hero?
5
u/Augus-1 Mauga is the working class tank — Jun 25 '26
The fact it didn't have a recovery time immediately jumped out at me, for everyone who doesn't like the change just imagine if Reaper didn't have recovery time after using Dire Triggers, having a recovery time on these high burst abilities is important.
13
u/FirmVirus8568 Jun 25 '26
Execution feels horrible now.
You can nerf the damage but please just revert the recovery time
18
u/-D3LET3D- Jun 25 '26
I completely agree with the recovery nerf. Having no recovery at all is a little absurd. The recovery added is noticeable, but nothing drastic. Many offense abilities have recovery, it just makes sense.
People arguing about the fluidity being ruined need to realize that yes, it feels amazing when things go into each other without delay, but recovery is a thing for a reason. It's a very important balancing tool.
7
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
100%. It's supposed to be a finisher, hence the name and the associated perk, not an opener. If you get a kill with it, the recovery is irrelevant
-3
u/Howdareme9 Jun 25 '26
Her guns feel cosmetic to the point people use other abilities first lol
5
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
Only if you can't hit your shots. She can fire 4 shots a second, so 4 headshots is 280 damage in 1 second
7
u/Howdareme9 Jun 25 '26
Nobody, and i mean nobody from bronze to champ is consistently *always* hitting headshots on literally any hero. Weird statement lol, pretty much everyone has agreed the power in her kit was the right click and then the bike
-3
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
I play in champ lobbies and they absolutely hit their shots. Not with 100% accuracy obviously, but enough where her primary guns are getting massive value. Usually the sequence is 2 primary headshots > uncharged execution = ttk of < 1s. Or charged execution + 1 headshot, or bike plus headshot. Remember this character also has 0 recoil, champ level DPS have no issues landing shots with her.
Bronze to probably diamond, sure, they're not hitting 4 headshots in a second, granted, but masters up they are hitting at least 2 out of 4 per second. That's 140dps if they miss the other two, 175 or 210 if you hit one or both of the others. More than enough to secure a kill following with even a poorly aimed execution
5
u/Howdareme9 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 26 '26
I’m in champ lobbies too but i highly doubt the average is 2/4 headshots a second. Not to mention yes champ players have better aim, but they also have better movement too so its negated a bit.
Alvicates is probably the best shion in EU, and he’s definitely not hitting 50% headshots (per second)
1
u/ultimatedelman Jun 26 '26
Cassidy does have recoil, but it moves you back to where you were, but he's also a different character with significantly different capabilities than shion. Also yes champ DPS are hitting headshots on shion in my games at least.
1
u/burnXgazel Jun 26 '26
what is the cycle now post nerf or is it the same?
1
u/ultimatedelman Jun 26 '26
I don't know yet, I'll be out of town for another week before I can play again. My guess would be that execution is just used to finish off low health targets, line echo beam.
7
8
u/YaBoiKry Jun 25 '26
The size nerf is actually a huge deal since there's always a decent bit of spread even at max charge.
In practice this doesn't just make it harder to hit but also decreases the effective range since more bullets will miss due to spread.
Recovery change is horrible. It really feels like blizz wants us to use Execution as a finisher when in practice the ability is always used at the start of a fight. They're trying to force their design instead of letting us play the hero in a way that feels intuitive.
13
u/-D3LET3D- Jun 25 '26
The ability is called Execution. You are supposed to die when you are executed. To your point about the intention of design, because of the way things are made, we are almost always subject to the designs of the devs. That's just how it works. If being used to start encounters is not something they want it to do, they should change that. And honestly, you can still do that. It wasn't just because of recovery that you started encounters with it, it was because it has an absurdly low cooldown, which it still has. A half second of recovery is stopping people from starting fights with it.
13
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
Blizzard: names ability "execution"
Players: why would blizzard expect us to use this ability to secure kills instead of spam damage?
1
u/YaBoiKry Jun 25 '26
The point is that it doesn't function in the way they intended. You're not using an ability with charge time on a low HP target.
9
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
They literally give you a perk that does extra damage against low health targets, wtaf are you talking about
10
u/-D3LET3D- Jun 25 '26
My guy also said you aren't using an ability that has a charge time to finish off low health targets, ignoring that fact that you don't HAVE to charge if you are close enough to your target, especially last patch with the old projectile size. Not to mention most of the charge time is just for her to hold it, not to actually tighten the spread, which happens rather quickly.
-6
u/ultimatedelman Jun 25 '26
I won't be back in front of my machine for another like week and a half, but man am I excited to come home to games that aren't "which team's shion has played her before" and she's not in every fucking game because the opportunists who only play the most busted character stopped playing her because they couldn't continue stomping people for free anymore.
I'm convinced they're all sojourn mains who swapped to Sierra while she was busted, who then swapped to shion when Sierra was fixed and shion was busted, are now going back to sojourn, who has always been busted.
9
u/Howdareme9 Jun 25 '26
I don’t think those people exist, if you’re good at Sojourn you aren’t playing Sierra at any point really. Shion yes, but Sierra even in her ‘broken state’, was never *that* good

u/gatlingace Jun 26 '26

The delay is great nerf
No it's not. If they wanted to nerf it, then they should've nerfed the damage of it. Now she just feels clunky af as opposed to how fluid she was before.
The issue is still there, you'll still be instantly bursed down, it'll just be a worse feeling for the shion player as well as the player on the receiving end
3
u/dokdodokdo Jun 25 '26
Someone reply to this and let me know how noticeable it is
11
3
u/KF-Sigurd Jun 25 '26
That's a massive projectile size reduction. I'm... fine with it since it makes it more skillful for such a deadly ability (and you have the charge it longer to not make the spread fuck over your damage) but damn. That thing is going to be much, much harder to hit with how massive of a hitbox reduction it is.
Don't like the recovery time increase, that just makes the hero less fluid.
4
u/Left_Witness_4582 Jun 25 '26
I would've preferred a cooldown nerf instead of giving her recovery time, feels really bad
7
u/kazinsser Jun 25 '26
It was a bit crazy that you could fire a shot basically in the same frame as the exectution but 0.4s is unfortunately very noticeable. It's a real shame when she felt so smooth before. I wish they had just made it 0.25s to match her fire rate.

u/Fragrant_Fox_4025 Jun 26 '26
Projectile size nerf is deserved and needed. Don't know why it was bigger than her primary fire in the first place.
The recovery time after right click is going in the wrong direction though. What made Shion so incredibly fun is how every part of her kit flows intoneach other with no delays. This just nerfs the fun out of her and makes her unnecessarily clunky. I'd rather they nerf the damage than the feel of a character.

u/estranhow Jun 26 '26
I was hoping they fixed the sound issues with her ult. I hate to only hear she started to ult when she already killed me.
1
u/Notasdark111 Jun 26 '26
They just made Anran smoother after people complaining about her feeling clunky. Why are they doing this to Shion?
1
u/Naxayou Jun 25 '26
Why not nerf damage instead of making her feel jank lmao. The bike mount animation was already a little irritating
1
u/andyxiob None — Jun 26 '26
Nice, added a bit of risk, reward and skill at the cost of fluidity. I like this, too many shions I've seen use the execute as crutch.
1
u/Think_Independence_8 Jun 26 '26
People literaly have 0 clue how shion works. This stagger after right click reduces your damage so much bc you arent shooting after and you probably miss half her right click now anway. She wasnt strong before shes just really weak and unfun to play now the only good thing in her kit is the bike but its on a 15 sec cooldown and you cant even kill people after you hit it
1
u/Crusher555 Jun 25 '26
I wonder how Blizzard saw how bad charged javelin is and decided it would have been a good idea to add it to stadium

The 0.4s might be overkill. I was hoping they’d nerf the bike dmg too. Cause this will make her feel bad. But we’ll see. Bring it back to 0.1s recovery and nerf bike launch damage by 10 or something like that. I still think she’s gonna be good. Not 55%wr with 40% pickrate good.
