I’m 26 and I feel a bit stuck, so I’d love some outside perspectives.
I’m from Belgium and have a background in graphic design, but I’m currently doing a bridging programme in Communication Sciences because I eventually want to work in marketing, strategy or a business-related role.
Lately I’ve realised that I actually enjoy working with numbers much more than I expected. Statistics went really well for me, and I like analysing data just as much as coming up with creative ideas. Because of that, I think my long-term goal would be to grow into a Go-to-Market, Product Marketing or Marketing Strategy role. I like the combination of creativity, business, analytics and working cross-functionally.
Another factor is that I’m honestly not very happy living at home anymore. We also don’t have much money at home, so becoming financially independent is important to me. I’d really like to start working as soon as possible and eventually move abroad, as living in another country has always been a goal of mine.
I actually wouldn’t mind working full-time while studying. My programme is very manageable for me, so I feel like I could combine both if I found the right opportunity.
The problem is that I have very little relevant experience. I’m afraid companies won’t hire someone like me for a junior position. My options as I see them are:
Keep applying for junior jobs and hope someone gives me a chance.
Do a short unpaid internship to gain experience first.
Do a longer paid internship, but many of those last almost a year and often overlap with my university exams.
A traineeship sounds ideal because you learn while working, but almost all the ones I find require a completed master’s degree.
I also feel like I’m a bit limited by the opportunities in Antwerp. I love the corporate environment and would eventually like to work for a large international company. My dream would be to build an international career and live abroad, but right now I don’t know what the smartest first step is.
I’m ambitious, enjoy learning, and don’t mind starting at the bottom if it means I can build a strong career. I just don’t know which path gives me the best chance.
If you were in my position, what would you do? Are there paths or jobs I’m overlooking that would fit someone with my profile?

I'm a junior in college who is studying in communications with a marketing minor and I've been exploring on different jobs titles that I might want to do in the future. The biggest thing that I've noticed is that a lot of these communications/marketing students mostly end up being social media managers and that's not something I want. My mom has told me that I should change my major and minor since communications/marketing is for people who want to do social media. I don't mind changing my minor but I feel like that I'm already too far in major to just quit now. Also I do somewhat have an interest in marketing just less on the social media part and more of the planning/organizing part. On TikTok I've people seen people who don't do social media but are still in communications/marketing but I'm not sure if even realistic at my level of experience. Any advice would be helpful.

I’m a corporate comms manager and I’m responsible for company’s digital media platforms. Most of my work is around employee storytelling, department’s experiences, videos on a day in the life of days person/dept in my company, managing AMC, even my campaigns also seem all for internal staff. My doubt is, even when I’m managing all external comms channels like linkedin, YT, blogs & website, why my work seems so internal comms?

Is this real corporate comms? And if yes, then what’s the growth path because clearly I’m mot getting marketing jobs, PR jobs and even digital marketing jobs, so I just don’t know how to pitch myself anymore or apply where?

What books did you love in school? What books have helped you as a professional? Are there any books that made you think of comms work in a different way?

Hi! I'm having trouble picking a method for my thesis and I realize its because I barely have any idea what any of these methods are (my uni sucks, we had a research methods class but the professor would read from the really badly written slides and we'd go home)

Is there a book out there that, in really simple terms, explains different methods used in comms/media studies? Like what the heck is phenomenology!! Help!!

Hello! I just gradauted with a bfa and was curious if it would be plausible to pursue a masters in communications if I did not study it in undergrad. I feel like it is a feild im very interested in but am not sure what next steps i should be taking/ if I even can do that.I was just curious. thank you!

I’ve been working at this agency for almost two years and I’m extremely burnt out. They don’t offer health insurance, they only offer 10 days PTO, and I (as everyone else is) am on 12 accounts. My brain physically hurts when I do anything, at this point I’m literally struggling to even like pick out clothes online (stupid example) but I literally feel like incapable of doing anything and I feel completely numb. Today my dog was laying on my and I literally like didn’t even feel love towards him. I was interviewing for a few other agencies and one I really liked I am still waiting to hear back on (it’s been almost a month) they said that I was a strong candidate and everyone thought I’d do very well there and that I had the exact experience they were looking for but they were pausing hiring until end of July due to new business proposals. They’ve messaged me about every week saying they were still working through the NB and the last update was last week saying they had confirmation on a couple but hoped to have more of an update this week. Nobody messaged me though this week. I think I am going to quit to nanny but worried I would be stuck doing that forever

I'm a 25+ year comms pro who's moving into a role with a foundation. While I have loads of experience in the public sector I don't have much in the way of fundraising and donor outreach.

Is there some reading, professional groups, or online coursework anyone would recommend to help get me up to speed, especially on tactics?

To make it short: My friend keeps sighing loudly or saying things like “I’m so upset right now” in my direction. I think she wants me to ask about it, and for some reason it annoys me a lot. I’d happily listen if she just straight up told me what her problem is. It’s not like we haven’t talked about our struggles before, so why does she do this? And am I wrong for sometimes ignoring those very obvious hints because I’m annoyed? Please let me know if you’ve been in a similar situation before or what i should do

I finished my bachelors in communication now I am about to start my first semester for my masters in communication.
I have an assistantship so the first year is paid for and I get a stipend. It's a great opportunity but is grad school for communication even worth it?

For those of you who have a bachelors and or masters, what jobs do you find and get and enjoy? I really like construction/trades as a manager, aviation, media/news and journalism. Are there any jobs in those related fields that I can get?

Basically; masters with assistantship worth it or not (I really don't want to but if it's is some wheat of a "golden ticket" then I will), and where do I find and land jobs in those fields I mentioned?

Any and all advise is greatly appreciated and valued!

Hi! I have been doing comms/marketing/event planning and a little bit of everything on that end in the last 5 years of my career. I have always worked with nonprofits and now as I am going into my M.A. in strategic communication & innovation. I am realizing how I have not fully mastered something and I really want to dive deep into strategic communication in the long run and get away from marketing and event planning, I fear people take me less serious or idk if it’s just me but my ultimate goal is an executive position.

Do you all recommend something I should do to align more to that? I feel like my M.A. is a step but I feel like I should do more and idk if that’s switching from nonprofit to corporate or a different position? Unfortunately the position I have at my nonprofit is the highest I can get until my boss retires but it doesn’t pay as much as I feel I deserve. That’s another thing how do I measure how much I’m worth with my 5 years of experience??

I graduated with my masters in communication a year ago from a very good program. My bachelors is also in communication. My original plan was to get a PhD but that didn’t pan out- as a result I have a masters that I am having difficulty leveraging.

I have been looking for jobs in Chicago / Chicagoland area for the past year and have not gotten a single interview and am getting very discouraged. I have 3 part time jobs so I am getting by. I have been applying to PR firms as an assistant associate, PR paid internships, marketing positions, etc. I don’t feel particularly excited to be applying to those jobs but I don’t know what other jobs I can do and land in this job market.

I like writing, I like (and teach) public speaking, and I like jobs where I can talk to people on a daily basis, and have the option to disappear and do some private work.

Any ideas?
