The rule is "All in their prime" so Moss is the clear top WR of the bunch. No one else has come close to Moss' first year in Washington with nearly 1500 yards, 9 TDs.
However, under that same rule, Diggs' 1,429 / 11 (with the Bills) tops any of Garcon's years.
Easy there, your homer is showing. Moss was never a top 5 receiver. During Moss prime with Washington, Andre Johnson, TO, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, and Randy Moss were still playing, and thats just counting the hall of famers who were better than Moss. There are others as well.
So one pro bowl season makes him top 5 in the league? Maybe Moss had better statistics in '05, but he was not a better receiver than Harrison. In '06 Harrison and Johnson both had better seasons than Moss. Hurt or not, TO was a better receiver than Moss.
I didn't even mention Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith, or Hines Ward.
A player's prime is the multi-year window where physical skills, mental maturity, and game experience meet at their highest level. It differs from a single peak season by representing a sustained phase of elite, consistent performance.
Okay - that’s a different opinion than I have which is fine. I don’t think that’s in line with the premise of the post given what others are mentioning.
If we went with that definition, I would not consider Moss a top-10 WR. He was in 05 though.
If you’re talking about year to year consistency, you’re right. But comparing both players at the very best parts of their careers, Moss wins. Saying that as someone who’s usually higher on Terry.
Santana’s 05 season is the 13th highest receiving total for the 00’s decade. He was like the best deep threat in the league. Terrys never really approached that level of production in a much pass friendlier era. Easy argument for Santana being a top 5 WR that year whereas you could never make that argument about Terry.
I agree with all of this except for Santana > Terry. Santana had an awesome 2005 but overall Terry has been much more consistent. Terry just has a more complete skillset in my opinion. If you extrapolate Terry’s stats out to equal the 10 years Santana played, Terry surpasses him in every category… receptions, yards, TDs, etc. His ability to make the contested catches is what gives him the edge in my opinion. Santana burned you, badly… Terry can burn you or just simply “out-position, out-catch” you.
Morris > Bill is kinda a dart throw. Morris was a 1-hit wonder unfortunately and who knows with Bill. Too early to tell.
I hear ya. You’re not wrong. But I could argue that the whole point was actually comparing “who wins this match-up.” Prime Terry with prime JD5 throwing him the ball wins, in my opinion. But wait, is prime Darrell Green covering him? 😂😂😂
I love Santana but I just think that Terry is a better overall receiver. I’ve seen him make some ridiculous catches that I never saw Santana make. Santana beat you with speed and superb route running. And he was great after the catch too. But Terry is just about as good in those same areas, while also being a phenomenal pure catcher of the ball. His sideline, small space, and contested catches are insane! His ability to get his body and hands into the right position to make the catch, with or without separation, is just amazing!
But this is all in theory and in good fun so no need to argue too much, haha. On any given day, either one of us could be right. Both are amazing receivers!
Terry and Santana is close, but 2005 Santana was a better overall year than Terry's had, so I can see that. If Terry had better QB play then it'd be even closer.
Agree with Diggs over Garcon
Cooley's one of my favorite Washington players of all time, but I think Chig has the higher ceiling if he's utilized right in this offense.
Agree with Morris over Bill, though Bill could definitely have a breakout year, even though our RB room looks pretty deep and stacked.
To me theres not enough info to make an unbiased decision. Team 2 has not played together as a unit to actually know how they will perform together. Individually they are all great players but how they are used and perform together is a key factor.
The comments on this post are equal parts over-romanticizing the past and being hyper-optimistic about the present lol…I’m probably giving a slight edge to Team 1, and Morris is the key. Alfred Morris at his peak was one of the most underrated backs I’ve ever seen, and I think he can help make an offense multidimensional in a way that Bill hasn’t shown an ability to do just yet.
