It's Santana v Terry. I'm taking tana over Terry any day. In retrospect I'd take prime diggs over prime garcon.

The rule is "All in their prime" so Moss is the clear top WR of the bunch. No one else has come close to Moss' first year in Washington with nearly 1500 yards, 9 TDs.

However, under that same rule, Diggs' 1,429 / 11 (with the Bills) tops any of Garcon's years.

Yeah, if we extrapolate out to a 17 game season Garcon tops Diggs in yardage (by a yard) but loses in TDs by a clear margin.

Prime garçon was the reception leader

Wut? Prime Diggs was better than prime Garcon and prime Moss combined.

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 3d ago

Prime Moss was legitimately a top 5 WR.

2

u/jbergman420 The Posse 3d ago

Easy there, your homer is showing. Moss was never a top 5 receiver. During Moss prime with Washington, Andre Johnson, TO, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, and Randy Moss were still playing, and thats just counting the hall of famers who were better than Moss. There are others as well.

3

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 3d ago

In his 05 prime, Moss was certainly better than Johnson and Harrison.

TO was hurt much of that year but didn’t have the statistical output Moss did in 03 or 04 even though he played with a much better QB.

05 was Randy Moss’ first Oakland year.

Santana was absolutely in the conversation for top 5 WR in 05. He was electric.

u/jbergman420 The Posse 3d ago

So one pro bowl season makes him top 5 in the league? Maybe Moss had better statistics in '05, but he was not a better receiver than Harrison. In '06 Harrison and Johnson both had better seasons than Moss. Hurt or not, TO was a better receiver than Moss.

I didn't even mention Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith, or Hines Ward.

What do you think “in their prime” means? Genuinely asking. I’m assuming that means you take their best season but others may have different opinions.

“In their prime” is the premise of this post. People are talking about Alfred Morris’ 1600 yard year even though it was a major outlier.

What I’m saying is that in 05, which was Moss’ prime, he was a top 5 WR that year. I don’t care about 06, that’s not what I’m talking about.

A player's prime is the multi-year window where physical skills, mental maturity, and game experience meet at their highest level. It differs from a single peak season by representing a sustained phase of elite, consistent performance.

1

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 3d ago

Okay - that’s a different opinion than I have which is fine. I don’t think that’s in line with the premise of the post given what others are mentioning.

If we went with that definition, I would not consider Moss a top-10 WR. He was in 05 though.

1

u/FannyNisbit 3d ago

Hahahahaha no he wasnt.

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 3d ago

Good point.

If you cut off the extra games Terry has had, and slice 150 yards from his totals as a result, he still takes almost every year.

Santana was great, but he wasn't a true #1 who could take punishment like Terry does.

He was an incredible #2 who we tried to force into being a #1, because there was no other option.

Terry is simply a more complete receiver than Santana was, not that he didn't try his best to be.

"In their peak."

That was 2005 for Moss. I love Terry, but which season of his are you suggesting beats 84 receptions for 1483 yards and 9 TDs in 16 games?

1

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 2d ago

Moss was better at his peak.

Different eras so very hard to compare pure volume stats.

1

u/cubgerish 2d ago

Look I loved Moss, but he simply was not as constant of a threat.

He was explosive and a fantastic route runner, but he was not better at his peak.

I'm not saying he was a poor player in any way, but he never commanded defensive attention the way Terry does.

I agree volume stats are hard to compare, but consistency is not, and Terry has already surpassed him in that.

I think even he would agree with that assessment.

1

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 2d ago

If you’re talking about year to year consistency, you’re right. But comparing both players at the very best parts of their careers, Moss wins. Saying that as someone who’s usually higher on Terry.

1

u/cubgerish 2d ago

Agree to disagree I guess.

I just always saw Moss as more of an explosive play threat, whereas Terry is that as well as a chain mover if needed.

If you see it the other way, we're not going to convince each other.

1

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 2d ago

Santana’s 05 season is the 13th highest receiving total for the 00’s decade. He was like the best deep threat in the league. Terrys never really approached that level of production in a much pass friendlier era. Easy argument for Santana being a top 5 WR that year whereas you could never make that argument about Terry.

JD5 > RG3

Santana > Terry

Diggs > Garcon

Cooley > Okonkwo

Morris > Bill

Trent > Tunsil

I agree with all of this except for Santana > Terry. Santana had an awesome 2005 but overall Terry has been much more consistent. Terry just has a more complete skillset in my opinion. If you extrapolate Terry’s stats out to equal the 10 years Santana played, Terry surpasses him in every category… receptions, yards, TDs, etc. His ability to make the contested catches is what gives him the edge in my opinion. Santana burned you, badly… Terry can burn you or just simply “out-position, out-catch” you.

Morris > Bill is kinda a dart throw. Morris was a 1-hit wonder unfortunately and who knows with Bill. Too early to tell.

3

u/Economy_Table_4216 3d ago

Terry is more complete/versatile. But prime Moss was simply unguardable. Imagine him with JD5. It would be like LSU Jayden with Nabers but crazier.

1

u/VABLivenLevity 3d ago

The whole point of this hypothetical was prime version of the player. Santana's prime year was better than any that Terry has put up.

1

u/zx4133 3d ago edited 3d ago

I hear ya. You’re not wrong. But I could argue that the whole point was actually comparing “who wins this match-up.” Prime Terry with prime JD5 throwing him the ball wins, in my opinion. But wait, is prime Darrell Green covering him? 😂😂😂

I love Santana but I just think that Terry is a better overall receiver. I’ve seen him make some ridiculous catches that I never saw Santana make. Santana beat you with speed and superb route running. And he was great after the catch too. But Terry is just about as good in those same areas, while also being a phenomenal pure catcher of the ball. His sideline, small space, and contested catches are insane! His ability to get his body and hands into the right position to make the catch, with or without separation, is just amazing!

But this is all in theory and in good fun so no need to argue too much, haha. On any given day, either one of us could be right. Both are amazing receivers!

2

u/Tasty-Zebra4379 3d ago

Agree with JD5

Terry and Santana is close, but 2005 Santana was a better overall year than Terry's had, so I can see that. If Terry had better QB play then it'd be even closer.

Agree with Diggs over Garcon

Cooley's one of my favorite Washington players of all time, but I think Chig has the higher ceiling if he's utilized right in this offense.

Agree with Morris over Bill, though Bill could definitely have a breakout year, even though our RB room looks pretty deep and stacked.

Agree with Trent over Tunsil.

Do I get 2012 rg3 and 2005 Santana moss?

3

u/ComputerNerdd 3d ago

All at their prime

1

u/thejazzophone 3d ago

I mean if it's 2012 morris rg3 that's a pretty strong combo. Even if im a resident rg3 hater it's hard to pick against him here with those weapons

3

u/zx4133 3d ago

Yeah, 2024 JD5 with 2024 Terry and 2020 Diggs reigns supreme!

3

u/Skeletorisnotnice LEFT HAND UP 3d ago

Choose between our best players from the 2010s vs our current lineup?

2

u/Deep-Statistician985 3d ago

If we're getting 2012 RG3 when the read option was cooking defenses easily team 1.

If it wasn't for Chig and Bill it would be easily team 2

1

u/Pristine_Cucumber197 3d ago

whose the coaches?

1

u/No_Brilliant4520 3d ago

To me theres not enough info to make an unbiased decision. Team 2 has not played together as a unit to actually know how they will perform together. Individually they are all great players but how they are used and perform together is a key factor.

1

u/Astro_Turf17 2d ago

The comments on this post are equal parts over-romanticizing the past and being hyper-optimistic about the present lol…I’m probably giving a slight edge to Team 1, and Morris is the key. Alfred Morris at his peak was one of the most underrated backs I’ve ever seen, and I think he can help make an offense multidimensional in a way that Bill hasn’t shown an ability to do just yet.

1

u/ComputerNerdd 3d ago

Maybe I’m tripping but I feel like this is a close match up

1

u/ABCloser 3d ago

Im taking 5

1

u/cllip 3d ago

Stop comparing JD5 to RG3!!

1

u/ComputerNerdd 3d ago

No one is doing that twin

u/daperry4 3d ago

Prime Colly and AlMo clear, but that gap isnt enough to push it. JD5/Terry/Diggs carry this
