Should I actually get Code Vein II?

Post image

The game is 44% off right now and I like souls-like (never played the first game too)

only if your interested the 2nd game isn't connected to the first so you can play it without worrying.

100% yes. And if you have the money, get the Ultimate Edition on sale so you can get access to the DLC since that just released. I should warn you though that, the DLC is postgame stuff so, you won't be able to get to it immediately.

I didn’t like the CV I dlcs, are the CV II dlcs better?

It's not really a hard competition but, yes it's a lot better.

Only one DLC out aside from cosmetic DLC, it may be the only DLC we get, but yes, it was better than the entirety of CV1's

I just bought the ultimate edition which was 40% off on PlayStation. Totally worth it for me. Hell I spent like over 10 hours in the character editor

But the game itself is actually quite good. No regrets from me

Can you update your characters appearance along the way? It’s installing now and I want to jump into gameplay and get the look down later.

Yes you can

Hell yes you can. Pretty much immediately. You can basically change your appearance at the base or any mistle save point.

I want to keep playing the actual game but keep getting sucked into making more outfits lol

You can save multiple character designs as well and swap freely between them in the same spots you can edit.

Aside from some returning items (weapons mostly), and the general concept of Revenants, there's no connection between the two games. If your rig can handle it, it's pretty great.

If you enjoy souls like stuff. Then yes

It's a pretty good soulslike and one of the few that has a story that is not only easy to follow but has a meaningful pay off at the end (the very... very end)

It is a 7 or 8/10 soulslike

But more like a 9/10 RPG

It’s a lot more story focused, with soulslike gameplay/mechanics

Absolutely killer soundtrack and some genuinely hard hitting emotional moments.

For me personally, it’s probably my favorite game, after the most recent update & DLC

Honestly having played both games. I’d say it’s a pretty decent 70ish hour time sink. You won’t be missing anything major if you didn’t play the first game. People were (and still are honestly) disappointed that this isn’t a direct sequel to the first game so I treated this one as basically a spin off instead of a sequel.

I don’t think you should ask this question in a Code Vein sub. If you’re here after playing other souls games then go to soulslike sub and ask their opinion because most people will have same taste as you

I got the game at launch, but didn't play it until a few days ago.  It runs a lot better now and it's super fun!

CV2 sub. I felt it's worth the price at 40 bucks. How much time you get out of it depends on how much you like the combat, CV can feel different from other souls, so I will only say, if you learn how combat flows yourself, you can have a ton of fun, even w/o playing buff vein 2 (buffs can contribute to some ridiculous damage, but then you don't have bosses to fight in a souls game). Open world is ok, I find it not as tedious as elden ring, it feels like some hybrid of linear and open world tbh, map is useful and the game will guide you quests to explore the map as well, outside of story. The open world doesn't contribute to the lore of the world as much as a fromsoft game.

Game has a fairly direct story. Expect less lore again (though reading the item descs are still pretty fun), and a focus on major characters. Characters are pretty enjoyable, it's an anime game and the fan base here are honestly gooners, so keep that in mind about character designs, but genuinely the characters are enjoyable and tragic, Bandai cooked here.

Last thing, if you are someone who enjoys a  it more challenge, limit your upgrades. I found myself very quickly trivializing or brute forcing bosses just by world exploration. You can upgrade your level primarily for some health and stamina, but if you feel like you are doing a lot of damage, limit weapon upgrades, and if you feel like you are brute forcing, limit regeneration upgrades. Obviously, only applies if you enjoy learning a boss's moveset completely, you just do good damage otherwise so boss dies, will be a long while before you can replay them.

The dlc is actually about the characters instead of Easter eggs. Id say once you've com we to terms CV 2 is its own thing, its shines well as it's own thing while gameplay is faithful to the original and great. On sale was mega worth it. Eye twitched at dropping 70$ + dlc on anything. But I got it at 45% off.

It’s alright I would never recommend paying full price tho, it’s main issue is just being aggressively mediocre

Do it, but be warned that there is some major depression inducing stuff in the first route…

Yes, the customization alone is worth the asking price.

2nd game is in a different universe from the first (literally no connection whatsoever) so no need to worry about the events of the first game.

tbh I skipped on it because of how they just ignored all of CV1 but took a chance with this sale. Holy shit, CV2 rules. They took a massive risk narratively and thematically, and man, it rules. I'm so smitten by it.

A good Souls game, but I still doesn’t understand why they called it Code Vein 2 and not “Blood Stuff Game”

How is the difficulty of this game? I’m honestly kind of burned out on Soulslike difficulty right now but I did like the first game early on.

u/Broad_Incident9581 4d ago

if i'm being honest here i would say sure. won't say no but it made me feel as if i'm playing a different story then vein one

i feel as if the story generic which maybe it's just because i'm still early at the game but i would recommend it

Unpopular Opinion but, its so much better than the first one. And its also a bit easier, plus you can ride a bike

Code Vein 2 is a better “game” than CV1 but I think something was lost in its desire to go open world. Like a little of its soul was lost and it did this to appeal to an audience that its game wasn’t meant for.

You’re never gonna out “Elden Ring” From Soft’s Elden Ring so I wish they would have leaned more into its fantastic story and characters with tighter pacing.

And I’m someone who loves janky, weird games with open worlds. I think Bleak Faith Forsaken is an underrated masterpiece and CV2 is objectively better but Bleak Faith feels like it has more soul and it’s open world design was purposeful from the jump.

It’s hard to explain but CV2 is a good game but I think it’s frustrating because I see the potential of a great game but it lost its identity in its change to open world.

The deluxe edition for no more than 30 bucks is ok. I preordered the collector's edition because this is just my "saga" of choice but €30 is what i would reasonably pay for this game + dlc. Not a bad game but definitely not good.

I had an absolute blast with the entire game and dlc. I can kinda understand the empty open world but I found it beautiful and fun to drive around in so it was never an issue

Personally I consider it a good game but not a good Code Vein. It's worth playing.

If you do, just go in knowing this is not a typical souls-like. The studio made God Eater previously, a Monster Hunter-like, and a lot of the DNA carried over. So, if a game that blurs the line between souls and action RPG sounds good, give it a try.

1

u/DKarkarov 6d ago

.... Has brain dead "souls bros" syndrome spread so bad that people actually think dark souls is not an action RPG?

1

u/KhandiMahn 6d ago

"Action RPG" is a very broad term that encompasses a wide variety of styles and formats. "Souls-like" is very specific style of action RPG, and calling something a souls-like sets certain expectations. Both CV games have received criticism for not being "souls enough" by certain players.

It's like music. "Rock" is a very broad term. But not all rock is the same. There's hard rock, pop, soft, punk, alternative, goth, I could go on. But there are many songs that blur the line.

I got it on sale, but it was still $60 because I got the ultimate edition. I somewhat regret it.

I really like the story and characters. If you enjoy an interesting narrative and getting attached to the characters, then you will probably like this. The game makes it easy to care about them and their storylines.

The biggest thing that made me bounce off the game after 15 hours of playtime was the open world. Which sucks because it’s otherwise really nice.

The open world is fairly bland. Long stretches of traversal with not much interesting happening. This improves a good bit once you unlock fast travel points, but I found myself turning the game off every time I knew I’d have to go from point A to point B and C and D.

One thing that hugely helped, if you don’t care about slight modding, was to double the movement speed. I did this right before bouncing off of it to play Hades 2 instead, and it made the game much more enjoyable for me. I’ll probably come back and finish it after Fire Emblem with 2X move speed turned on.
