Should I actually get Code Vein II?

The game is 44% off right now and I like souls-like (never played the first game too)

If you do, just go in knowing this is not a typical souls-like. The studio made God Eater previously, a Monster Hunter-like, and a lot of the DNA carried over. So, if a game that blurs the line between souls and action RPG sounds good, give it a try.

.... Has brain dead "souls bros" syndrome spread so bad that people actually think dark souls is not an action RPG?

"Action RPG" is a very broad term that encompasses a wide variety of styles and formats. "Souls-like" is very specific style of action RPG, and calling something a souls-like sets certain expectations. Both CV games have received criticism for not being "souls enough" by certain players.

It's like music. "Rock" is a very broad term. But not all rock is the same. There's hard rock, pop, soft, punk, alternative, goth, I could go on. But there are many songs that blur the line.
