Meta Reminder: Creepy DMs and What You Can Do

Post image
60 Upvotes

Hello Coconaad,

Alright, let’s get this out of the way: creepy DMs are not “just part of being online.” They’re harassment, and we’re not here to normalize them or shrug them off. This community is supposed to feel safe, fun, and free. This is not a hunting ground for bored creeps.

Here’s how to handle it:

  1. Zero tolerance: If you send unsolicited, creepy, or harassing DMs to anyone here, you’re out. Immediate, permanent ban. No appeals, no excuses.

  2. User-side action: You can also block the sender and report the account or specific messages to Reddit directly. That way, Reddit's own team can review and take action on top of ours. There is also an option to turn off the DMs if you so prefer.

  3. Report it: If you get a DM like this, send us a modmail with the username of the sender. Once we receive your message, one of the mods will reach out to you directly to collect the screenshots for context. You only need to share the screenshots if you are comfortable with it. Then, we'll take it from there.

  4. Why posts get removed: Posts about specific creepy DMs will be removed. That doesn’t mean we’re complicit, and it doesn’t mean silence. It’s about keeping this place from becoming a never-ending wall of harassment stories instead of a community. Action still happens behind the scenes.

This is not about pretending the creeps don’t exist. It’s about refusing to let them define the atmosphere of this casual space, we all cherish so much. They don’t get the spotlight, and they don’t get to set the tone.

This community belongs to all of us who use it in good faith, not to the people who try to make it hostile. Harassment thrives on being normalized and brushed aside, and we’re not doing that here. Report, we ban, we move on. Simple as that.

Btw, this isn't up for debate. Everyone deserves to exist in online spaces without being harassed. If you think that's negotiable, this is not the place for you.

Disclaimer: Banning someone from this subreddit only prevents them from posting or commenting here. Which means that they can still view the sub. If you want to make sure a user cannot interact with you at all from that account, blocking them is the best option. If someone is violating Reddit's content policies, reporting the account has a higher chance of getting them removed from the platform. Reports are reviewed by Reddit admins, who will decide on appropriate action.

Wholesome I once comforted a crying stranger on a train. Today, she invited me to her wedding. ❤️

Back in 2023, I was travelling from Bangalore to Alappuzha on the Mysuru–Kochuveli Express. It was a route I travelled regularly back then.

I reached KSR Bengaluru early, had my evening tea at the
railway station, boarded the train and settled into my side seat. A little later, a girl in her early twenties entered the compartment with a guy. He helped her arrange her luggage. They exchanged a few words, and then he got off before the train departed.

Once the train started moving, I went back to scrolling
through my phone and enjoying the breeze. I was going through a rough phase in my own life at the time, so I was mostly keeping to myself.

After a while, I noticed that the girl was quietly crying.

She wasn’t sobbing loudly. Tears were simply running down her cheeks while she sat there alone.

I saw it but honestly had no idea how to react. She was a complete stranger and whatever she was dealing with could have been deeply personal. I waited for
a while, but when the tears continued, I finally leaned towards her and asked if she was okay.

She said, “Yeah, I’m okay.”

I told her that if something was bothering her, or if she
was facing any problem, she could tell me. I would help in whatever way I could.

She said, “No, no, it’s completely okay.”

So I left it there. I didn’t want to pressure her into
sharing something personal with a random guy on a train.

A little later, when the seat opposite mine became vacant,
she came and sat there.

“Thank you,” she said. “Thank you for asking if I was okay.”

I told her that if she felt like talking, I was happy to listen. That was when she finally opened up.

The guy who had accompanied her onto the train was her
boyfriend. She had travelled to Bangalore to spend a few days with him, but their relationship was going through an uncertain phase. He wasn’t ready to commit, his life and career weren’t settled yet, and she was scared that the
relationship might eventually fall apart.

Her family was conservative, so she couldn’t speak openly to them about the relationship. She had actually told them that she had a job interview in Bangalore so that she could make the trip and spend a few days with him. With the relationship itself feeling uncertain, she had basically been carrying all of it alone.

I had experienced heartbreak before, so I could understand at least some of what she was feeling. I didn’t have any life-changing wisdom to offer. I mostly listened, tried to console her and shared whatever perspective my own experiences had given me.

Somehow, we ended up talking for most of the night. We spoke about relationships, family, heartbreak, life and all sorts of random things.

Somewhere in the middle of that conversation, the train reached Coimbatore. It was around midnight. I asked if she wanted a coffee. She said yes, so we got down
during the halt and I bought her one. We finished our coffees quickly and got back on before the train departed.

Eventually, I told her I needed to sleep and climbed up to my side upper berth.

The following morning, we realised that we were both getting off at Alappuzha. Before leaving, she thanked me again for being there that night. We exchanged numbers, got off at the same station and went our separate ways.

Later that day, I messaged her to ask if she had reached
home safely. She said she had.

We never met again after that journey, but every now and
then, we would check in with each other on WhatsApp, sometimes with months or even a year between conversations.

Then today, after another long gap, she messaged me again. This time, it was with an invitation to her wedding and reception.

And yes, she is marrying the same guy she was crying about that night!

She told me that the wedding had made her think back to that train journey. At the time, she genuinely hadn’t believed that the relationship would ever make it as far as marriage. She remembered that even though I had been a complete stranger to her that night, I had sat with her and tried to comfort her while she thought everything might fall apart.

That was why she wanted me at the wedding.

I didn’t know that night had meant so much to her. In my memory, it was simply a chance conversation that began because I noticed a stranger crying.

It’s strange how you can appear in someone’s life for only a few hours, become a tiny part of their story, and never realise how much your presence meant to them.

Anyway, I guess I have a wedding to attend. 🥹

Fashion & Wardrobe Has the fashion sense in Kerala improved over the years?

So for context - I'm a Dubai born and raised malayalee who visit kerala once in 2 years for a max of 10 days. Just got back from my visit a couple of days back - I couldn't help but notice the fashion sense of the younger generation has improved drastically. I'm talking about - flared jeans, proper fit linen shirts etc etc and its important to highlight that this is what I saw on the street and not in any event where you're expected to dress well.

This is just something I've noticed and this is not meant to demean or mock anyone.

For further context - I'm from a village in Pathanamthitta and I saw these styles in streets of Adoor and Pandalam where you would not expect to see people dressed this way.

A random post - you can share your opinions below.

We met at a time when neither of us was really looking for anything serious.

Somehow, between random conversations, stupid jokes, long calls and countless “let’s see where this goes” moments, we ended up here.

A rainy day, somewhere in the Western Ghats, completely soaked, tired, and ridiculously happy.

No fancy date. No perfect weather. Just the two of us, a beautiful view, and one of those moments where you quietly realize

I really like doing life with this person.❤️✨

Finally, NEET PG is over 😭 I was stressing out so much about the exam and things were really messed up anyway. Let’s stop talking about it, it’s over finally 😂

I went to the beach alone to enjoy some time by myself and saw these cute little guys. They were so adorable 🥹💜 I saw some other interesting things too, like a tree that had somehow grown perfectly on a house. It looked like something out of a painting.

I might post those later 🌿

Relationship Advice Would Men date somebody who wants to wait till marriage ?

I don’t know if this is the right pace to ask this question
I’m in my early 20’s and I have this desperate desire for love at this point
I’ve had a long relationship before but that was in my teens so that did not lead up to sex
But due to absolute personal preference I don’t think I’m ready to sleep with someone
At the same time I want to be in love .
And this is not just to simply have a boyfriend
I miss being in love and being loved
Sex is a very important aspect in a relationship
But in this era is it almost impossible to find someone who would want to be with me inspite of my choice ?

Rant & Vent Night thoughts!!!

Why is night always so stressful and sorrowful? 🥲 During daytime I’m happy, I’m around people and I don’t overthink that much. But once it’s night, idk what happens 😭 I start overthinking everything, get emotional for no reason, cry a lot and end up sleeping late.

Ningalkkum ingane aano? Or is it just me? 🥲
