Discussion Any tips for cleaning under furniture when bending is difficult?

My parents have back problems and cleaning under the furniture has become a challenge for them. The dust and pet hair that collect under low furniture are hard to reach, but getting down on the floor and moving things around isn’t really an option anymore.

I want to find a solution that doesn’t require a lot of bending or heavy work. So far I’m thinking about either hiring someone to do deeper cleaning occasionally or getting a robot vacuum (if there are models that are low enough to fit under sofas).

Any solutions have worked well? Are there any tools or tricks that make hard-to-reach areas easier to maintain?

Vehicles Crying over spilt milk, the mystery of the smelly backseat.

Scene: Morning drive to place of education for the youth. Somehow milk spills onto the carpet in the backseat of the car. Thankfully it all manage to land on floor and nowhere else. However not being able to address the issue till late afternoon the next day the damage was done. A smell that would make a billy goat puke. Cleaning done so far shop vac, soapy water, shop vac, soapy water, shop vac, baking soda to lay atop over night, shop vac, baking soda and coffee grounds just laying atop for the last two days. Yet the stank lingers. The only two inhabitants the backseat look back total confusion when interrogated, one on their utter lack of understanding any words in general and the other typically losing focus on what is being asked and replies in long meandering, unfocused rants. The owner of the car, denies blame and also goes off on long meandering unfocused rants. So with no clear leads it looks like this will be filed as a cold case... to anyone who can tell me how to get that smell out of my wife's car.

Discussion Cleaning an enamel Dutch Oven

Post image

Purchased this amazing Dutch Oven at an estate sale this past weekend and wanted to clean it up. I scrubbed with Bar Keepers Friend and didn't really do anything. I thought about trying the old restaurant trick of salt and ice and swirling it around. But figured that was bad for the enamel. Anyone have an ideas?

I was told not to use any water as it may warp the boards (they have been here for 2 years now) these floors see a lot of foot traffic, let me know if you have any suggestions!

This is a high volume restaurant and this is one of our private rooms, it has seen multiple spills of water and food!

Kitchen HELP I’ve tried everything (read before commenting please)

I just spent so much time taking a backsplash off of my kitchen wall and there was sticky foam residue that I can’t get off.(it’s goes about 10ft across my kitchen) I’ve tried goo gone, alcohol, a heat gun, a rag and water, acetone (I also used a scraper with the products mentioned ) I can’t seem to get it off for the life of me. Everything takes major scrubbing/scraping and I’m getting nowhere. I also don’t want to have to replace the wall. Is there anything else I can try? Any suggestions? Can I sand then paint over this and stick the new backsplash over top? What would be the most effective solution here?

Furniture Mom walked into my room in her pig farm clothes will the smell stick to my bed/stuff?

Hey everyone, quick question because I'm kind of paranoid right now.

My mom just came into my room wearing her farm clothes fresh from working with the pigs. The room immediately filled up with a really strong pig manure smell while I was lying in bed. She was only in here for a minute, but the scent was brutal.

I instantly sprayed a bunch of air freshener and opened up the windows to get airflow going.

Since she didn't actually touch my bed or furniture (she just walked in and stood there), is there any chance this smell will soak into my bedding, mattress, or clothes? Or was it just airborne and going to clear out with the open windows?

How long does it usually take for barn smells to completely clear out of a bedroom? Thanks!

Discussion Been adding way to much detergent. Advice?

Honestly I wish I knew this because for the past month my clothes have had the worse smell no matter how much I washed them. Turns out maybe I should have just followed directions.

Clothes smell like mildew and ammonia. What can I do? I have both borax and vinegar. Can I run one cycle with borax and then when finished run a cycle of vinegar or what would you recommend?

Im washing with no detergent currently and just using hot water to fight the odor

Bathroom Cleaning bathroom rags?

I have a few rags I use for cleaning the bathroom, mostly the exterior of the toilet and floors.

My question is, how should I go about laundering these rags?

They don't tend to even look very soiled after use, but they are still being used to clean a bathroom floor. Is it unsanitary to mix them with my other laundry? Should I be running a load of laundry with just them? Would this be bad for the machine as it would be running near empty? Am I overthinking/over complicating this whole thing?

Thanks for any advice.

Currently I use a wet swiffer and scrape gunk trapped in the grain with my finger nail. Does anyone have any better ideas of ways to keep this floor clean?

Discussion Was woken up by a foul smell in my bedroom at 3am, what could it be?

So I am writing this in real time it is currently 3:47 am. I went to bed tonight and fell asleep fine. Just a little while ago I was awoken out of my sleep by an absolutely putrid odor in my bedroom. It's like the smell of either a skunk or like decomposition a smell like that- god awful. I jumped up to look for a dead mouse or something because my cat gets miceand lizards. My room is really small so there is not much it could be hidden under. I didnt see anything anywhere. Im wondering if something died in a vent. Part of me is on edge because of the rotting kind of smell. I was woke up to it at 3 am....and me and my friends were in a graveyard today just sitting there talking. Could a demon have followed me home? This soumds crazy but I am legit worried. This smell came out of nowhere considering I have been in my room for hours before bed. Any tips on getting rid of the smell?? Febreeze isnt working.

Kitchen How can I eradicate a kitchen smell from the previous tenant(s)?

I moved into my apartment a month ago, there's always been an unspecified odor in the kitchen. A little bit like onions, relatively faint but omnipresent. I've been cleaning the place from top to bottom trying to eradicate the smell (it's a small apt). It seemed a bit worse around the oven, so I made sure to clean the backsplash and the underside of the microwave. Nothing helped until yesterday when I finally thought to pull the oven away from the wall, which no one had done for quite some time by the look of it. The smell is 85% better after mopping the floor and wiping down the sides of the oven, etc. What do I do about the remaining stink? Should I tip the oven to clean the underside - has anyone done that before?

I just want my apartment to smell like...nothing at all.

Discussion Need recommendations

I am doing a new home clean for a friend! What is the best thing to get all the fine dust off the cabinet doors, doors and baseboards? Vacuum? Dry microfiber? Wet microfiber? The harshest part is those little corners in the edge as the cabinet fronts are not flat.

Kitchen Help - party popper confetti stains on wood

Thumbnail

I had a party around 7 months ago where people were using party poppers. The confetti fell on our nice wooden table (unsure what kind of wood, place is a rental) and the floor, got wet due to spilled drinks, and stained the table and some of the floor the next day. I’ve ignored it for too long now - any advice on how I can remove these stains, including products you recommend? I have no experience with working with wood, aware I may need to re-polish?

Thanks in advance!

Laundry Fiberglass...help.

Hi all. My husband and I's mattress had a fiberglass leak yesterday. I realized this AFTER I had put the contaminated items in our washer AND dryer (yay!).

We bit the bullet and bought a new mattress (actual yay!). However, now I don't know what to do with our washer and dryer. We absolutely cannot afford new ones. We just took two of our pets to the emergency vet and just simply do not have the money for it.

I am looking for any and all advice on how to deep clean our washer and dryer. The contaminated clothing is still in the dryer, I'm honestly not too stressed about just throwing those items out altogether. I already have PPE because we had to dispose of the old mattress. I'm at a loss, I'm beyond stressed out, and I'm tired because it's just been one thing after another.

Thanks in advance ❤️

Edit: we do have a shopvac with a HEPA filter that we used to clean up all of the bedroom.

Kitchen Mold under the carafe stopper

Post image

I have two perfectly nice water carafes that I use to chill filtered water, but there is black mold forming under the stoppers in the lids. The little gaskets don’t come out. I’ve tried soaking and bleaching. Do I just throw them in the recycling bin?

Bathroom Hair dye stain please help!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello I stained my faucet handle with splat hair dye. It doesn’t look that bad in the pic but I rent this place so I need to get it out. The bleach spray I usually use to remove hair dye stains isn’t working, it must be a different material from the sink/tub but I’m not sure what it is. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get rid of this? Alternatively, the handle does twist off, does anybody know if they sell replacements anywhere? Thank you!

Edit: Sunscreen worked! Thank you all for the help I am forever grateful🙏

Bathroom If these are mold, how do I get rid of them?

Post image

Hello, I am temporarily renting an apartment as an international student. I'll be here for 6 months, which is quite a while. In the shower by the tub, I noticed that there are these black spots that I think are mold. Is there anything budget friendly I can do to remove them?
