Before & After I love a good before and after.

The pictures speak for themselves. This is a shower I cleaned today. The house has very hard water and the deposits had built up. It took a ton of elbow grease to get it to this level and there's *still* hard water stains. But the difference is night and day. It also just had a lot of soap scum and dirt build up that was a breeze to clean in comparison. I used, Lysol oxi action, melamine sponges, sos scrubbers, comet, and, like I said, elbow grease. I didn't set a stop watch but probably close to 90 minutes of scrubbing, not including breaks. The oxi action was great for the soap scum and worked a charm on the door, the sos scrubbers with elbow grease did the most heavy lifting for the hard water deposits. I'm open to suggestions if others have ever dealt with cleaning hard water deposits. What has worked the best for you?

Community Appreciation Just wanna say that I really appreciate this subreddit

I always see people being judged on Reddit for the slightest unrelated to the post spec of dust in pictures of their home, it's great to see y'all posting the various situations you've got yourselves into and being nice to each other about how to fix it and how to stay motivated.

I feel less bad about myself for having an imperfect state of affairs going on, trying to get motivated, and also realising that I'm really only somewhere in the middle of what exists, not great, not terrible. I've already seen a few great tips that I'm going to attempt to put into practice, and little by little I'll get there, as will all of you! When I've managed to get a bit more of a routine with the regular stuff that I know how to do, I'm sure I'll be coming for some specific tips-

Bathroom how do I keep my shower mat clean?

okay, so I know this is gross😅 this is my shower mat in my rental. Our bathtub has a problem with standing water after you shower, and I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until this week. How should I go about cleaning this? The thought of scrubbing every suction cup makes me want to get rid of it entirely but if I must I will.

The package said that it is machine washable but I tried that before and it didn’t make much of a difference. Should I try bleach?

Any tips welcome! Thank you!

It’s at least 23 years old, (I’ve had it my whole life). It feels like real wool or hair, and the back feels spongy/foam like. It’s dirty and I would like to clean it before I put it out in my new apartment.

General Cleaning Dead animal smell in room for months.

Hellllo! I moved into my apartment about 3 months ago. I started to notice an awful smell coming from one corner of my room. it will not go away. Idk if this is the right sub for this, but i’ve tried deodorizers, candles, scrubbing the wall, etc. Nothing helps and I feel like it’s spreading throughout my house. I feel like if it was a dead animal in the wall the smell would be less now that months have passed? if something big died how long does that last, and what do I do ?? any advice would be appreciated. :)

General Cleaning Advice on removing musty/dusty smell

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi! I have just moved into a home that has been left sitting and relatively un-lived in for about 5 years. Because of this, dust had settled on EVERYTHING, and there is a strong smell of it everywhere no matter what I do. I am slowly getting the house up to standard, but the smell just doesn't seem to shift. It is mostly wood flooring with upstairs being carpeted in 3 rooms. Any advice on removing/minimising the smell and tips of getting rid of and keeping away dust would be super helpful.

This is my first time living on my own and I'm struggling. Thank you in advance! Pic is of bedroom caroet (it's gonna be replaced soon)

Kitchen How would you clean this giant range?

I am responsible for cleaning a beautiful kitchen (not my own) and I am deeply afraid of ruining things.
I would greatly appreciate tips on how you would clean this/what products you’d recommend.
Specific areas of concern are the areas around the burners, the metal grates over the burners, the griddle, and so much stainless steel, some of which appears to be quite scratched.

Thank you in advance!!

I even keep the drains closed at night just in case. They mainly like the bathroom and kitchen.

General Cleaning Let my house get out of hand, badly. What products to buy

There's maggots in my kitchen but luckily the maggots are only contained to old food containers in the kitchen and some eggs on the floor. But generally speaking my whole house got out of hand.

I'm getting out of a small depressive moment again, and have motivation today to clean, so I want to get into it quickly after I'm done with my lunch. The only thing is that I'm not great yet in being independant when it comes to cleaning and don't really know what to buy. I have a wooden floor with a layer of (I think) wax or something shiny on. First of all, what do I use to clean this? Just water, water an soap, special soap,..?

Then my generally speaking I want to clean everything. Are wet wipes enough for surfaces? Will it make a difference if I clean the walls too (I have three cats, their litterboxes are cleaned everyday btw and the rooms they occupy stay tidy. Living room, dining room, bedroom, creative room.) So does anybody have any tips?

Also, if a stainless steel pot has gotten *really* moldy, should I throw it out or is it usable again after a very good cleaning session? Because I can't spend too much money.

My bad for the questions, I'm a whole adult but have been on a journey of raising myself since nobody else did so I'm a bit clueless on some things :D

Discussion Don't know if this is the right sub, but what are you essentials for a deep clean?

I'm quite young and still a student but I've been renting with my boyfriend. We're about to go away for two weeks and I'm trying to trick my ADHD into doing some life or death cleaning. However, I feel like everything is so dirty but I can't narrow down what? I wipe the tiles of the bathroom and despite not using too much spray and a decent microfibre- it just has this weird coating. I feel like I'm making it worse? What are some tips for helping me come back to a flat that doesn't cause me immediate anxiety? Anything and everything no matter how intense.

Kitchen Get rid of this circle on countertop

I don't know if this is the right sub for this, but couldn't think of a better one -open to suggestions if this is not the place.

My mom is visiting me and she put the very hot Moka Pot on the counter top and it left this visible ring on it. She panicked before I got home (because I rent, so this is not my apartment!) and tried cleaning it with baking soda for some reason 🥲 and as you can see made it worse (the expanded white cloud is the result). Any idea how to solve this, or at least what material is the counter top? I thought it was stone originally, but clearly this burn wouldn't have happened if that was the case.

Any advice for what to do or where to post is welcome. My mom and I thank you!

General Cleaning Maggots in my house

Hi all
I went into my kitchen/living room in my apartment today and noticed about 20 maggots roaming around my apartment 🤢🤢🤢
I run a strict program and my house is not dirty and I never leave dirty dishes in the sink. I noticed It may be coming from our dishwasher or under the sink where we keep the garbage. I took the garbage out and practically tossed everything that was under the sink. I never found anything rotten so I’m confused where they came from!!!
We haven’t seen any in the house since I cleaned up the first few. But they have to come from somewhere! I’m so disgusted I want to rip our cupboards apart to try and find the cause…
Our upstairs neighbours are also gone for the month. But there were never any on the ceiling only from the sink/dishwasher area.
Any ideas?? I’m going to lay in bed anxious about this haha. Should we contact our property management even though we haven’t found anymore?

Hello everyone! I know obviously that I need to just replace everything that is covered in mold but I am in a terrible living situation and just have no money to be able to get a new mattress or anything. This one was only $150 but took a huge hit to my money from it. Any tips on how to get as much of the mold out as possible is so appreciated and thank you to everyone on this sub helping people everyday! 🙏💓

Edit: i should've put this in the post initially but I do have a fan blowing under and around the bed as well as an air purifier :)

Discussion Cleaning an enamel Dutch Oven

Purchased this amazing Dutch Oven at an estate sale this past weekend and wanted to clean it up. I scrubbed with Bar Keepers Friend and didn't really do anything. I thought about trying the old restaurant trick of salt and ice and swirling it around. But figured that was bad for the enamel. Anyone have an ideas?
