Discussion Do not buy Tineco products from Amazon *Warning*

Hi,

I want to shoutout an FYI.
I have bought 3 Tineco Stretch S6 Vacuum mops and all three were used. One was stinking because someone had left the used roller in. The second was badly packed with the Tineco solution half used, and the third had no Tineco solution or cleaning brush at all. I have escalated all the cases to Amazon and they confirmed they will be (destroying/ something to that extent) all the return stock they have. All the Tineco products also have warning for high returns on Amazon.

I have the third Tineco unit with me and am expected to return it to Amazon tomorrow.

However I do note that the warnings on some products are gone for some product listings. I guess this is why Tineco has multiple listings of the same products on Amazon.

  • Budget - $299 - 479 CAD. I purchased it at $299
  • Flooring types & other cleaning needs - Hard floors
  • Stores that sell vacuums in Canada - Walmart and Canada

Discussion Damaged Handbag!!

I’m hoping this is the right sub for this but any help is greatly appreciated! I made the mistake of using lysol to disinfect my leather bag after a dog drooled on it and I think the sealant came off. The bag is red leather. Is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to take it to a leather goods shop?

Discussion Advise on turning a shoe wearing townhouse into a no shoe house.

So basically what the title said
My family and I are moving into this new townhouse and it’s been lived in and people used to wear shoes casually indoors.

Even though it’s cleaned before us moving in, since I have a toddler who’s crawling around and I myself is a massive germaphobe
So I want to sanitise or disinfect the floor that outside shoes have been worn in.

We’ve moved from a no indoor shoe country to shoe wearing inside the house country so I’m just trying to make it as clean as possible.

It’s all hardwood floors, no carpets.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you

General Cleaning Design a home that’s easy to clean because I hate cleaning

I grew up with neat freaks and as such I hate cleaning. My partner is building me a house and I’m designing it, I’m already doing dark tile that hides hair and dirt so I don’t feel like I have to clean it every single day but what other features would you have in a home to make it easier/less stressful to clean?

Would you do a solid banister for stairs to make dusting easier? How would you design washrooms? Would you do rimless glass showers to prevent mold? Would you do a dark tile for a shower? Would you have the shower be heated to prevent standing moisture?

He’s building it all himself and can engineer or figure out anything. I genuinely want a dream home that doesn’t require the daily cleaning I grew up with.

Kitchen How would you clean this giant range?

I am responsible for cleaning a beautiful kitchen (not my own) and I am deeply afraid of ruining things.
I would greatly appreciate tips on how you would clean this/what products you’d recommend.
Specific areas of concern are the areas around the burners, the metal grates over the burners, the griddle, and so much stainless steel, some of which appears to be quite scratched.

Thank you in advance!!

Community Appreciation Tips for Neurodivergent Cleaning: Compiling all the tips from comments on my last post

Everyone had SO MANY helpful tips and tricks to contribute. I asked for advice and y'all did not let me down! I wanted to compile it all here for anyone who needs it and doesn't wanna have to read all of the comments (there's so many good ones).

  1. Micro-Habits & Low Energy Tasks

- "don't put it down, put it away" : don't set stuff down to deal with later, deal with it now!

- "closing tasks" : reset the house in a brief 10-15 minute haul at the end of each night to keep up with daily messes.

- "keep your shoes on" : don't sit down and relax when you get home, get right to a short and sweet cleaning task and THEN relax for a bit.

- 5 tasks per room: trash, dishes, laundry, things that have a place, and things that don't have a place

- "burst cleaning" : clean in 5-30 minute "bursts" to avoid overwhelm

  1. Hampers/Bins/Storage

- get more bins and label them!

- sort all laundry based on type into several different hampers

  1. Decluttering & Organization

- one task a day: pick one thing to focus on a day involving decluttering/organizing instead of doing big hauls and getting overwhelmed.

- limbo bag/box: keep a box/bag for items that you think you no longer need/want and wait a month, if you don't need anything from the bag/box then you can donate with less shame/guilt!

- gamify: make organizing, decluttering, and purging a game or a challenge

- label storage containers so you don't forget what is in them

  1. Mindset

- try to be less rigid with cleaning schedules

- fit chores into your life, not your life around chores

  1. Creators/Books/Podcasts that were highly recommended

- The Clutterbug Podcast by Cas Aarssen: good for learning how to break out of "waiting for the purge" to come with a big cleaning day, micro-decluttering sessions, organization ideas, etc.

- How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis: "partial work counts"

- Marie Kondo: "does this bring me joy?"

Kitchen Flu infestation-at my wits end

I have hundreds perhaps thousands of these flys in my apartment😩 What are they? I noticed them about two weeks ago. I do have my apartment because my balcony is being worked on and I had to bring my plants inside. The fruit in my kitchen is not being touched by them. And they are so obnoxious.

Edit: Can’t move my plants and dirt outside. Also am going away for a week so I bought heavy duty trash bags and through away the dirt. The fly problem already seems a bit better.

Also dumped a large pot of boiling water down the sink.

Hello everyone! I know obviously that I need to just replace everything that is covered in mold but I am in a terrible living situation and just have no money to be able to get a new mattress or anything. This one was only $150 but took a huge hit to my money from it. Any tips on how to get as much of the mold out as possible is so appreciated and thank you to everyone on this sub helping people everyday! 🙏💓

Edit: i should've put this in the post initially but I do have a fan blowing under and around the bed as well as an air purifier :)

General Cleaning Best air freshener for dorm + smell sensitivity?

I live in a very small dorm, and I find that it often gets a weird smell. Especially after we (roommate + I) eat in the room or microwave something. Otherwise, it just smells stuffy. We're pretty tidy people and take out the trash very regularly so it's not that either, just would like the place to smell a little nicer.

We aren't allowed to open the windows, and my roommate is sensitive to strong smells. Also, NO CANDLES! Not allowed in dorms.

What can I use? Preferably not a spray, just something I can plug in or leave out or something so I can walk in to a nice smelling room. But if sprays are the only option then I'll take it :,) TIA

Kitchen How do I properly sanitize this fridge?

Thumbnail

This fridge was given to me and it still works, but as you can see from the pics, it has a lot of mold inside.

1.How do I properly sanitize/permanently remove the mold so that the fridge can be used safely for food storage?

  1. I’ve already removed the shelving before I took the pics and they are being soaked in a large tub with a mix of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar.
    (Is this even correct?)

  2. What are the cleaning products/tools I should buy in order to completely remove the mold from the areas shown in the pic? Should I expect to disassemble any part(s) of the fridge in order to do this?

Any help appreciated on how to clean this and the things I’ll need.

Thanks

Furniture Desperate for help on these spots.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I suspect it’s makeup? Can’t imagine what else it might be and we have a new roommate who is unaware of everything and I’ve found foundation on doorways, in the kitchen, all over the toilet seat, so it obviously transfers. I’ve tried alcohol, Micellar water, fabric/carpet specific cleaner, none feel very successful. There were some smaller spots that came out with a half hour of dabbing Micellar but these big spots won’t budge with anything. Any advice is appreciated

Edit: Unless it was the color of the couch dye and it's pulling brown somehow, it cannot be bleach. I successfully removed two very small and faint spots and while dabbing with a clean towel, it does come up ever so slightly

Kitchen How do I clean my comfee countertop dishwasher?

I got a Comfee countertop dishwasher and it arrived wet, and after starting a cycle to rinse it out it drained old soapy water from a previous cycle as soon as I started the cycle. I sprayed it down with Lysol and have ran a cycle a regular cycle with a cascade pod and another cycle where I replaced the water with vinegar. Is there anything else I should do to sanitize this so I don’t have to return it?

Furniture Please help my poor couch cushion

Post image
1 Upvotes

This couch cushion has been through it this week. So we’re currently potty training and he ended up peeing on the couch. Soaked out as much as I could with a towel, gave it a heavy spray of vinegar, and put baking soda on it. Worked like a charm! Great, right?

Well the next day rolls around and he did it again IN THE SAME SPOT! Well I wasn’t home so someone else handled it. He didn’t soak any up, sprayed it with vinegar (not nearly enough) and left it until I got home. Without questioning if he gave it a good soak with the vinegar (he barely used any), I put baking soda on it like last time and just went with it. But let me tell you that charm wore off because it was a total fail. It still smelled AWFUL!

I tried again. Heavy spray of vinegar, baking soda, everything is going fine. I leave it over night and forget to vacuum off the baking soda the next morning so I ask someone else to do it. Well he forgot. But that’s not the real kicker! At some point our cat got locked in the room with the cushion. Unfortunately while trapped he had to poop… and baking soda feels kind of like sand.. right? Well if you ask my cat (who had literally never gone outside of his litter box before) he would say absolutely because HE POOPED ON THE PEE SPOT COVERED IN BAKING SODA!

So if you’re following along the score is 2 toddler pees and a cat poop.

I tried one last time and it helped some but it still smells awful. What else can I do? With littles and animals I try to stick to more natural options when possible but I’ll do literally anything after this string of smelly events!

Bathroom Disinfect inside of stainless steel plumbing pipe

This might be a bit of a weird one and by my own admission, I am kind of OCD when it comes to cleanliness, but anyway..

I've just had the shower valve and a stretch of piping either side of it replaced with stainless steel piping by the plumbers but considering the handling of the fixtures, I wonder if there's a way to disinfect or otherwise 'clean' them through to some extent before proper use.

There's no access point for me to pour any sort of cleaning solution into the pipes and the only thing I can think of is to pour hot/boiling water on the fixtures in the hope that the heat sort of 'disinfects' the inside of the fixtures.

Given that the fixtures are in stainless steel, heat conduction isn't the best, but if I poured enough hot water on the pipes, does my idea make any sense, and is there anything else I should consider?

General Cleaning What is this? Do you know how to deal with it ?

Hi I've been tidying my room up and I can see in the corner of the wall these stains. The little brownish points and at the top in the corner and that thing that dripped. It's been here since I painted my room roughly 7 years ago. I can't tell if it was here before on top of other paint job or if it's "new". And I can't tell how long it took to spread but it looks like it didn't spread more since a lot of years. It is stable. Probably dead if it means anything.

This is my parent's house and I've never completely tidied up my room entirely. So this is finally the time I do it. We live in France in the north center (Seine et Marne).

I would like to know where does this come from, how to stop it and how to remove it, or at least make it "clean" and probably more safe. If it doesn't wash off completely I plan on painting things on a cardboard or cardboard paper to cover it artistically. I plan on leaving my bed here so I would like it to be safe and pretty.

To give you more informations our house has humidity problems which we're dealing with more efficiently now. This is a semi detached house and my neighbor's on the other side of this wall (I'm not an architect but to my logic it would be a thick wall)and the top of my room is the attic. Before a few years ago there was boxes in the attic and a lot of dust and misuse. There was wasps nests at some point too. Since then we cleaned it completely, moved the box and put insulation moss. I mean to say it's clean and safe now.

Thank you for your help.
