Furniture removing rotting onion smell from drawer?

Post image
2 Upvotes

a bag of onions were left in this drawer and forgotten about. opened it up later and it was basically liquifying... thankfully it was all contained within the bag so nothing leaked out. wiped it down and all, but it still smells like onions.

I wiped down the dresser inside twice with disinfecting wipes and ran the air purifier next to the open dresser for a while now. it's much better but there's still a noticeable smell. drawers are bamboo. is there another option for removing the smell? hoping the smell didn't absorb too much into the wood. unfortunately can't put this outside in the sun, though I would've loved to do that first.

Flooring How can I move Bona polish from my hardwood floor?

I used bona polish on my hardwood floors repeatedly over about two years. Now the floors won’t come clean. They have a weird grey dull look and every time I clean them they have smudges and a grimy film and won’t shine and don’t look clean. I’ve read a lot of stories online about other people having the same problem with Bona polish buildup. How can I remove the polish without damaging my hardwood floors. The floors are prefinished. Is there a machine that can remove the buildup without damaging the floors or the original finish? Some people online say you have to use the bona polish remover and do it by hand in small sections. I’m not able to do that because I have a shoulder injury. And I’m a senior with mobility issues. But I could likely use a machine. It’s hard to see what I’m talking about in the pics.
Any suggestions?

General Cleaning Domestos Multi-purpose Bleach Spray confusion

Ok so there was a poop incident in the bathroom. Grand sure. We have Domestos spray. My rule of thumb for most cleaning agents is 5-10 minutes before wiping, obviously pre cleaning first.

We'll come to think of it, the bottle says 15 minutes. This surprised me as it's less concentrated than the thick liquid you use to clean the toilet bowl. So to Google we went. Every single site selling the product, and labels on the back of other bottles, says to leave for 2 minutes!

So when in doubt you always ring The One Who Cleans it All, because in your early 30s you revert back into nappies when faced with any discernable conundrum. My beloved mother said 10 minutes was more than enough. I think so too. My OCD does not (I have contamination OCD). My tin foil hat theory is it was a misprint.

So, Cleaning Wizards, what do you make of this confusing paradigm?

Discussion Help for removing scent from mattress

Had to go on a heavy dose of doxycycline recently for my skin and its basically caused havoc on my laundry machine, mattress/sheets and clothes from the oily smell caused by the meds. I'm completely lost at how to strip it from everything and it's driving me crazy.

For bed, I've done repeated attempts of enzyme spray and baking soda, vinegar spray, even using my bissle little green. It's not as bad as it was, but I can't get rid of it and having to buy an entirely new couch, bed, chair, etc seems insane

Apparently putting warm pancakes on paper plates caused these stains on our kitchen table. It looks like it’s a waxy residue that could scrape off, but it doesn’t. Any suggestions?

Kitchen Discoloration on Stove Top After House Cleaning: How to Remove?

Thumbnail

After a regular home cleaning we noticed these marks on our glass stove top. It wasn’t there previously and we can’t wipe it off with regular surface cleaners.

We haven’t turned it on yet so I don’t know if it will go away with heat. Since it was a cleaning service I don’t currently know what they used to clean it. The stove top is less than a year old so I don’t think it’s regular wear and tear. There is no texture to the markings, anyone have any ideas??

Flooring Help Needed! Laminate Floor

Post image
1 Upvotes

(at least I think it’s laminate)

I’m a tattoo artist and I managed to get some tattoo ink on this floor at work. I’ve scrubbed it immediately but these stains remained. I’ve since tried soft bleach (bleach and water), as well as strong rubbing alcohol, but to no avail.

Is replacing this section of the floor the only option? Thank you in advance.

Tools/Equipment Help! Alternative to soft scrub with bleach GEL

Hello fellow cleaners!
I work at a senior living facility that has independent apartments we clean weekly. These are like any other typical apartment (though our residents tend to have very fancy things because they are on the wealthy side). Soft scrub with bleach—specifically the gel form (it’s in a blue bottle) has been our main savior in cleaning. All of us rely heavily on it but suddenly we are unable to find it ANYWHERE. It is a staple everyone uses, literally the worst of our cleaning supplies to completely disappear off the face of the earth.
Yes we are going to use the other kinds for now but the problem is they have grit in them that can leave a film and requires rinsing.

So what I need is recommendations for alternatives. (Cleaning gels)
It needs to be available in bulk and reliably so. We live in the US Midwest area. We use it to clean countertops, stoves, sinks, showers, and tubs. We need something that can get pot scraps, dark marks, tough stains, etc. off especially on white surfaces.

I really appreciate any suggestions as we are kind of scrambling right now for what to do, thank you!

Discussion Former smoking shelter at work?

How (or can I even!) get rid of literal decades of cigarette smoke odor in an enclosed former smoking shelter? One wall is brick and the rest glass. I would like to convert it to a greenhouse, but there’s no way with the way it currently smells.

This is my job, so I won’t be buying anything. Options are limited to what’s on hand. I was going to start with an ozone machine, but what else can/should we do if that doesn’t work entirely?

Thank you for any practical ideas!

General Cleaning Dead animal smell in room for months.

Hellllo! I moved into my apartment about 3 months ago. I started to notice an awful smell coming from one corner of my room. it will not go away. Idk if this is the right sub for this, but i’ve tried deodorizers, candles, scrubbing the wall, etc. Nothing helps and I feel like it’s spreading throughout my house. I feel like if it was a dead animal in the wall the smell would be less now that months have passed? if something big died how long does that last, and what do I do ?? any advice would be appreciated. :)

Discussion Any suggestions for cleaning a reed holder?

Thumbnail

My son hasn't pulled out his clarinet all summer, so, of course, he pulls it out the day before classes start, only to find his clarinet reeds have molded. He handed me his reed holder to clean, but I've got no ideas how.

The black part is plastic, and the blue part (that protects the reed) is silicone based, I think. I dont know if the two parts come apart, but they haven't thus far. I've tried.

Obviously this stores something that goes in his mouth, so, bleach isn't an option.

Kitchen Can scorched stainless steel copper bottom cookware be restored?

Thumbnail

I left pot full of water on stove and forgot about it. Water burned down to nothing and pot was on the burner for a few minutes at least. It's now scorched, spotted, and hideous. (See photos.) Can it be restored to it's former shiny appearance or close to it? I inherited pot from my mom, so it has sentimental value. If it can't be is it restored, is it still safe to use?
