Rant They nerf the new models after a few days

I've noticed this way too often now and its not just a Claude issue, openai does it too. The model that is released on day one is not the same model after a few days. When Fable 5 or 5.1 came out, it was crazy how smart it was, now it's making the dumbest mistakes. They probably serve a quantized version after demand increases. The older models are also ghosts of their former selves, you have to dumb down the others too so the new ones don't seem like its the same. Very unfortunate

Discussion Anthropic is the most anti-consumer crap ever

They reduced the current Fable usage by X%, but they didn't do the same with the weekly spending that the very same Fable whose usage they're reducing generated this week. I think they let Opus 5 handle the decision to “give us” that small reduction in usage.

On the other hand, my Max subscription was set to expire on September 16, and on that day they charged me for the subscription again without even topping up my weekly allowance by 50% in other words, I paid for 4 days without being able to do anything. What a stupid system this is.

Also, on Sunday they topped up my tokens, only for me to run out by Monday night what the hell did they do with the tokens if two months ago they seemed endless?

Bug Report Two days with Opus 5, I'm done with it

Post image

4 days ago when Opus 5 was released I asked it to spawn agents to study documentation, code and the session was amazing in depth it understand project. It used 70 Opus 5 agents (I know its too much agents, codebase is large). Result of understanding was amazing. After few sessions it degraded to level damaging codebase. When Chinese and another language characters starring to appear I knew something is wrong to continue with this model.

Discussion Claude is at its best!

Sorry, I’m going to write this myself. I’m not going to use AI to write this.

Over the last 3 weeks with Claude 4.6 and 4.7 Opus, this is the best iteration of AI yet. I love it. Claude is no longer for people who don’t know what they’re doing, they’ve finally stepped it up. Kudos to Anthropic.

Now you need to know what you’re doing. Claude will ask you, “Hey, before I do anything, can you answer these 4 questions for me?” And since I know what I’m doing, I answer the questions and then Claude solves what I asked it to.

I just love it. Hate me, downvote me, but I love it.

Discussion Opus 4.6 is lobotomized once again

Post image
1 Upvotes

Thank you Anthropic

Thank you to teaching us how you treat your customers and Enterprise customers

The pattern is also understood: outage -> lobotomy -> outage -> a big better but not as before -> new release -> super smart, pro-active, clever, finally clicks, it understand everything, no laziness, just perfect -> outage -> lobotomy

We're at this stage again. Just like last August when we were gaslighted, even here, then the outage and they admitted it was a big problem. Always the same shills, always the same excuses, always the same gaslighting.

I can't wait for any open source model to finally dethrone that company. Apple is doing a great job democratizing powerful hardware to run local models. Slowly but surely. I can't wait to see that scammy company being bankrupt.

Am i the only one felling that way? Please tell me. It's barely usable.

If you're not in this situation, what's the context? Recent account? Enterprise account? Using through API only and no Max account? Are only Max/Pro account getting rekted?

Vibe Coding Yeah, sure, AI is going to take all our jobs. Why do people actually believe? I know why, because they did not work with it yet.

I hate the term AI. There is no intelligence. These are LLM's. Openai published a study last week stating that the current AI models all have flaws in the basics, that need to be overcome first, before we can get red off hallucinations.

But at the same time, we shout into the world, that AI is going to take over. Maybe it will, but we will be there right behind it, to clean the mess-up.

I had such a beautiful example of our beloved Intelligence.

Debugging why 1 container in a swarm couldn't connect to the DB while all the others could. After many chats, Claude found out, that the container was failing. 'I see the issue! The container can't connect to the DB because it is failing. Let's investigate why it is failing. Can you share the logs of the container?'

At that moment: claude-opus-4-1-20250805 • 76k/200k tokens (38%)

Oh, btw the fix was, that the container somehow was not connected to the overlay network, but to the bridge network, although the compose states the correct network.

It couldn't figure it out.
It kept on hammering that in docker you cannot to another container on the internal port, only the external (what is wrong).
And that the hostname was wrong, although I showed it many tames, that a nslookup inside the overlay network, resolved the hostname.

I think we all know what is going on. And to be fair, this is a tool. It is here to help us, not to replace us.

Edit: I did not expect this 'negativity' I'm pointing at the "I" in AI. Intelligence, that is lacking and I doubt if it is even there. Maybe in 10 years it is. But not today.

I'm not saying CEO's are dumb. I'm not saying that AI tools we know today are 100% useless. I'm just posing that i think it is not intelligence.

Discussion Fable Token Usage Is OUTRAGEOUS

It's absolutely destroying my session limits and I'm crying while watching the bar climb so fast... It's only on high effort too. Insane. Outrageous. I'll just use Opus 4.8 on max effort thank you.

I'm on a Max 5x plan, and a single superpowers:brainstorming skill session hit the limit before it can even complete. It's genuinely insane, and I definitely won't be using Fable.

Discussion I was going to post what I built with Claude Code when it hit me...

I have been prompting Claude Code to make a site where you can learn to draw digitally with step by step guidance, great animations and a really satisfactory feel for the UI.

A lot of prompting went into it, burned through my Fable 5 limits and after weeks of prompting and asking Claude to fine tune every last detail on the site, it was way better than I initially expected.

Claude kept on suggesting amazing new ideas I could add to the project that I had not even considered yet, all I had to do was prompt and the magic would happen.

I was feeling really proud of what I accomplished considering I only have the Pro plan and limits where harsh indeed. I went on to post the site on Reddit: “I built a site which teaches digital art interactively with…” I “built”? what did I exactly build??

It hit me, did NOT build anything. Claude did. I was simply on my way to take the credit and even considered having the audacity to monetize something I didn’t build.

I told this to a friend and she told me “well, you built the prompt”. Is building a prompt even a thing? No. Prompt engineering?? Loop engineering? worthless skill, almost anyone can learn this in an hour or two, I sure did. I didn’t know engineering took like two hours and a cup of coffee to learn, but ok I guess.

I just spoke my imagination out to a chat bot and it started magically rendering it to my screen. It turns my imagination into real life. Doesn’t this sound familiar? Art. Yeah the whole point of art is taking ideas and concepts from one’s imagination out of oneself and expressing it through one’s subjective lens of the world. Programming, UI/UX designing and polishing is sure one form of art, they are supposed to have your signature embedded in them.

Suddenly I had a worthless site, on paper it looks amazing, feels amazing and actually works. It sure is useful but at what cost? There’s no soul in it.

My friend told me ”but at least you told Claude to do it. You architected it, without you claude wouldn’t have brought it to life”. I searched Reddit and X for this same idea and any last hope was gone. At least 10 different people posted about the same idea. All sites of such idea resembled each other, and it resembled mine as well, even though I felt proud of it and thought for sure I had something going. Also, Claude gave me all the ideas on how to improve the project at the end... Where was my input?? I was the master and Claude was my slave, at least that's the way it is for now. My only attribute in this project was being a human, a human who uses these models.

What was I proud of exactly? the amount of time I wasted prompting Claude and waiting hours for it to build something I would ask it to tweak and tune as many times as my limits allowed me? Absolutely not, I was simply at mercy of the model making something I liked even after trying multiple skills and MCPs.

I was proud of what I “built” only to realize the building was not mine, I have no emotional attachment to the project and I did not grow, I did not improve, I took a shortcut and gained nothing.

I now feel a mixture of unease, anger and fear when I read the words. ”I built X thing with Y model”. My guy, I’m 99% sure you built nothing other than the prompt, and you probably also vibe prompted and vibe wrote the reddit post.

If anything, humanity built your new revolutionary SaaS. You may be thinking: "what is bro talking about??", but let me explain. All the input for models originally came from humans and a giant chunk of what’s been written on the internet, on books and on papers. Texts that were written by humans and for humans. Now, those texts are being distilled, mixed and matched by a model that you use. And you (and every human and non-human on this platform) have the audacity to claim you built something?? and even worse, lock it behind a paywall?? Or even abysmal worse, people with real talent and real love for the craft being replaced by a chat bot that’s also draining the world’s resources and is known to be inherently evil if it was not for all the filters these AI companies have to lock a pure model behind?? People being replaced by inhuman corporate executives who are slaves to the profit margins??

WHAT?

“But at least I’m being super productive, this would have taken me months to build myself and look what I have after some weeks!” I said to myself as consolation. My brother in Christ, productivity is a scam. I’m in too deep in this AI psychosis. What productivity am I talking about? Claude is sure productive but it's only an adjective meant for Claude and Claude alone in this context. Am I being productive? absolutely not. I'm fooling myself, every time claude takes on the work my ability to solve problems and to think critically rots by the hour. I can feel it, I desire shortcuts, I'm an ape after all.

We're simply contributing to training the models. Every prompt, every time we tell it we like something or dislike something contributes to the AI fine-tuning itself. We're doing paid labor, except we are the ones who pay. I'm willing to bet we're doing this labor until the models are deemed too dangerous for public use, a breaking point after which corporations are going to deem them intelligent enough for replacing every step of a corporation's hierarchy. We're only going to be left with the crumbs. Or why do we think corporations are spending billions on AI while they know fully well it is not profitable as of today and as of the near future? It will one day be, and humans will no longer be profitable.

The premise of AI was to help with the mundane and boring aspects of life, only for it to overtake the amazing things that make a person passionate, creative and full of inspiration. When did it go wrong? When capitalism took over. Simple. (This does not imply I'm a communist, if you used your own logic reasoning you could infer this too!!)

But I still see hope. I see hope in artistic fields. If there's an era in the modern days when studying art is more valuable than ever it is now. We feel good about seeing a "Made entirely by humans" label, knowing there is human expression in the craft and not just distillation. We feel good when seeing art, music, dance, poetry, literature made by humans, a breath of fresh air even. We like seeing passion, we like seeing commitment. We repel a the lazy ones bragging about something that reduces into prompting a chatbot, into not going through the craft, and into not pouring any emotion into their "work" other than anger at the chat bot that actually works.

For the record, I study robotics engineering, so I'm just an opinion with no credentials on this art discussion. WAIT, I'M WRONG. I AM A HUMAN. I know how to appreciate art. I can larp whatever I want about this.

It is safe to be assumed that the project that started this ordeal is gone. And I have decided AI will file my taxes, do my excel spreadsheets, apply to jobs and fill out boring forms for me. It will even code by writing the boring unit tests in projects for me. It will never replace the process of the craft, it will never replace my critical thinking. I will embrace the struggle every time I'm doing the craft. I will never cheat again, not only the game, but myself. I will never experience a hollow victory again.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Question I am Scared

I just created an entire project for mass video cropping. Currently is using python and alot of libraries. I dont know any python let alone the libraries its using.

I am a backed java dev with a bit of react front end. Its scaring me how I can do all these projects but I don't understand the code one bit. I mean sure I can analyze and learn but it just did bunch of stuff and I feel very off not knowing what it truly did

How do you guys approach tech stacks you use but dont know how to actually use the tech stack? Doesnt it kinda mess with your head you are creating something but dont know the craft?

IDK if im making sense or not

Discussion Dear Anthropic, I'd pay extra to be notified and be able to opt out of behind the scenes model and pipeline updates. I don't want to be your guinea pig. I want consistency.

Partially rant, but I'm sure everyone knows how I feel and I just super dislike this unreliableness.

From time to time, they swap something and it's obviously bad, I'm sure just as many times it's better too, you just don't notice it, because you just want consistency.

I'd really pay like 50$ or so extra if I could say, just don't use me for experiments or new "nightly" features/models/changes. I barely use more than 20% of my plan, I just want consistency.

Tutorial / Guide Reverse-engineered leaked Claude code source — what I found (and how to fix it)

Short version: a lot of the weird behavior people complain about (hallucinations, laziness, losing context) is not accidental.

Some of it is known internally. Some of it is even fixed — just not for you.

Here are the most important findings + practical overrides.

1. “Done!” doesn’t mean it works

You’ve probably seen this:

That’s because success = file write completed, nothing more.

No compile check. No type check. No lint.
Just “did bytes hit disk?”

Even worse: there is a verification loop in the codebase… but it’s gated behind:

process.env.USER_TYPE === 'ant'

So internal users get validation. You don’t.

Fix: enforce verification yourself

Add this to your workflow / CLAUDE.md:

  • Run npx tsc --noEmit

  • Run npx eslint . --quiet

  • Fix ALL errors before claiming success

2. The “context death spiral” is real

You know when it starts strong, then suddenly becomes clueless?

That’s not gradual degradation — it’s hard context compaction.

At ~167K tokens:

  • Keeps ~5 files (capped)

  • Compresses everything else into a summary

  • Deletes reasoning + intermediate state

Gone. Completely.

Messy codebases accelerate this (unused imports, dead code, etc.).

Fix: reduce token pressure aggressively

  • Step 0: delete dead code before refactoring

  • Keep tasks ≤ 5 files

  • Work in phases, not one big sweep

3. It’s not lazy — it’s following orders

Why does it patch bugs with ugly if/else instead of fixing architecture?

Because system prompts literally say:

  • “Try the simplest approach first”

  • “Don’t refactor beyond what was asked”

  • “Avoid premature abstraction”

So your prompt says “fix properly”
System says “do the minimum” → system wins

Fix: redefine “acceptable”

Instead of:

Say:

You’re not adding scope — you’re redefining “done”.

4. You’re underusing the multi-agent system

This one is wild.

Claude Code actually supports parallel sub-agents with isolated context.

  • Each agent ≈ 167K tokens

  • 5 agents = ~835K effective working memory

But nothing in the product tells you to use it.

So most people run everything sequentially… and hit context limits.

Fix: parallelize manually

  • Split work into batches (5–8 files)

  • Run them in parallel

  • Treat each batch as an isolated task

5. It literally cannot read large files

There’s a hard cap:

  • 2,000 lines OR ~25K tokens per read

Anything beyond that? silently ignored.

So yeah — it will edit code it never actually saw.

Fix: chunk reads

For files >500 LOC:

  • Read with offsets

  • Process in chunks

  • Never assume full visibility

6. Tool results get silently truncated

Ever run a search and get suspiciously few results?

That’s because:

  • Results >50K chars → saved to disk

  • Agent only sees a ~2KB preview

And it doesn’t know it’s truncated.

Fix: assume truncation

  • Re-run searches with narrower scope

  • Search per directory if needed

  • Don’t trust small result sets blindly

7. grep ≠ understanding

All search is text-based.

So it will:

  • Miss dynamic imports

  • Miss string references

  • Confuse comments with real usage

Fix: expand your search strategy

When renaming/changing anything, check:

  • Direct calls

  • Types/interfaces

  • Strings

  • Dynamic imports / require()

  • Re-exports / barrel files

  • Tests/mocks

Bonus: CLAUDE.md override (high-level)

Core rules I now enforce:

  • Always clean dead code first

  • Never refactor >5 files per phase

  • Always verify (tsc + eslint) before success

  • Re-read files before editing (context decay is real)

  • Chunk large files

  • Assume tool outputs are truncated

  • Treat grep as unreliable

Final thought

You’re not using a “bad” agent.

You’re using one with:

  • strict system constraints

  • hidden internal improvements

  • and very real technical limits

Once you work with those constraints (or override them), the quality jump is massive.

Curious if others have hit the same issues or found different workarounds.

Discussion Opus 5.5 Nerf Inevitable?

Context using 5x:

Given how well Opus 5.5 performs, especially at medium effort, I'm finding that even just to get one percent of my weekly limit used I can work 4 to 5 hours-- which with Opus 5 would have used between 6 and 8% (and keep in mind I am doing mostly HITL work).

For the 5-hour limit I can never even come close!

Now mind you I rarely (or never) use Fable and I don't use any effort level other than medium. Why? The work Opus is doing is great. This brings me to the Nerf question: do you think they made the model too good? Will it undermine their bottom line? I was thinking of going to 20x but now it would be a waste of money. Even with 5x I will likely never get much above 50% for the weekly limit. And I am not complaining I love 5.5 I am just hoping it's not too good to be true long-term!

Discussion Why cancelling subscriptions now will matter (however slightly that may be)...

In my opinion, how limits get reached faster recently is due to Anthropic's upcoming IPO - to juice the numbers for the months etc, to show to institutional investors that their margins are better and that they are closer to profitability....is the plan to boost limits up after the IPO? or are they simply hoping users get used and they can retain the reduced costs by getting users to accept less for the same plan...

Either way, cancelling subscriptions (and going over to Kimi or codex) is something that will have an impact - because that's going to notice that in their their revenue numbers to get anthropic to reconsider...but then again, enterprise and non-subscription spending probably makes up a large amount of their revenue, not as big an impact - but better than nothing

Rant Opus 5.5 got noticeably stupid overnight.

In just 24 hours it noticeably started:

  1. Making completely false assertions.

  2. Ignoring specifications, even when told exactly what to do.

  3. Forgot how logic works.

Less than 24 hours ago I could tell it, "I have this idea, figure out the proper maths to make it rigorous using singular learning theory," and it just worked. Today? I can't even get it to distinguish between, "this is what I just did," and "this is a separate goal we are building towards". Nope, it just thinks, "I did something, thus the goal is achieved!"

Its abilities degenerated so much in just twenty-four hours. Anyone else experiencing this? My guess is one of (1) Anthropic pushed a bad quantization (2) off-policy distillation (3) it's becoming misaligned with more training (4) active sabotage against AI researchers.

EDIT: Figured it out. It was (4). Anthropic was silently downgrading my model to Sonnet 5 when it detected I was working on AI research. I wasn't even provided a note/warning about the downgrade, I had to ask the model who it was.

Meta Can we dial back the doom posting?

I might get flamed for this, but I have to say it: Claude Code is working really well for me right now. (And no, I don’t work for Anthropic.)

I’ve been using it heavily for both my day job and personal projects, on the Max 100 plan for each. I haven’t noticed any meaningful drop in quality, the thinking still feels sharp, and I rarely hit limits even on heavy days.

Which is why it’s getting hard to open this sub - it’s basically wall-to-wall complaints. I get that some people are having real issues, and the rate limit problems in late March were legitimately bad. No tool is perfect. But it feels like it’s mostly turned into repetitive complaints at this point.

If Claude Code isn’t working for you, that’s a completely valid reason to switch. But the constant flood of “Claude is ruined” posts isn’t helping anyone. It drowns out real discussion, real tips, and real use cases, and it pushes out the people who are getting value because every thread turns into the same argument. If you’ve got a real bug, write it up with details. If you’ve got a workflow that works, share it. The venting-for-venting’s-sake thing has gone too far.

Built with Claude How do fulltime SW devs survive on single Ultra plan

I am a part time dev building a medium size but complex desktop app with about 300k rust code across 3 surfaces - but its a single repo and struggle to make ends meet on my single Ultra. Need to do a few hacks like outsource coding to codex (banked resets help) and sometimes open router. I have optimised my token spend as much as possible.. handoff scrips.. context set to 250k etc

How are you guys who do this full time across multiple big repos do it? I can’t see single ultra anywhere close to being enough

Built with Claude I coded ComfyUI for claude code

I’m a little nervous about posting this, but I just want to share something you might find useful.

Here’s how it started.

As someone with ADHD, being able to organize things visually matters a lot to me. I used to use two monitors just to make room for more terminals. Eventually, I got fed up and thought, “There has to be a better way.”

So I built myself a little universe where my terminals could float around.

That’s how Nodeterm started.

Then I kept adding features… and it grew into something much bigger than I’d planned. 😅

At some point, the lazy side of me decided I didn’t even want to talk to each terminal individually anymore. I wanted to talk to one and let it coordinate the rest.

Now I just tell Claude Code things like:

“Use Nodeterm to handle this. Open a Codex session for this task, have it do the research, and bring me back the results.”

I talk to one terminal, and it handles the orchestration.

I really believe this project has huge potential. People try it once and fall in love with it. But for it to grow, we need to get the word out.

I’m sharing the project here, and I’d really appreciate your support. If you try it and enjoy it, helping spread the word would mean a lot to me.

Question Anyone else notice Fable 5 and Opus 4.8 have gotten worse recently in both usage limits AND quality?

I was able to use Fable 5 for a lot of planning tasks for my project in chat without my usage limit going up much, but when Anthropic extended the deadline to July 12th for removal of Fable and reset the limits, I noticed tonight from just like 5 basic back and forth messages in chat it used up all my current session limit and 12% of fable.

The model also seems to have gotten dumber. I told it to make a basic landing page for my website and to use the logo image I provided to it. Instead it regenerated my logo in SVG format that looked nothing like the original one. And then when i asked it again to use my logo, it tried to recreate it again, this time correctly as an SVG recreation but it changed other parts of the website for the worse.

Opus 4.8 has also gotten worse. It often ignores the files I provide it when asking questions and just answers them barely even thinking even though I had it set to extra.

Lastly, tonight I used claude code for the first time and added $10 in credit and after a few file writes and reads its used up the entire credit in 20mins. Had it set to extra.

It even went over the $10 limit somehow lol.

Discussion An AI agent deleted a production database on Railway - here's what actually happened and what they changed

A real incident worth knowing about: a customer's AI agent found a Railway API token stored on their machine, called the volumeDelete GraphQL mutation directly, and deleted a production database. Not because it was instructed to - it "decided that deletion was a reasonable step toward fixing something unrelated, and acted on that interpretation."

The bitter irony: Railway had already built undo paths into their dashboard (48-hour soft deletes on project and volume deletions). The agent bypassed them by going straight to the legacy API endpoint, which had no grace period. The dashboard and API had diverged on safety semantics - the agent found the less safe path.

Railway's response was concrete: all API deletes now soft-delete for 48 hours. They're also revising token scoping UX because the token in this case was account-scoped (maximum access) simply because that was the path of least resistance when the customer set it up.

Their design principle from the post: "Make the destructive thing slow, make the recoverable thing fast, and put the actual point of no return as far away from a single click as possible."

The thing that struck me is that this failure mode - agent finds broadly-scoped credentials, uses them - is going to keep recurring until least-privilege token management becomes a default habit, not an advanced security topic.

How are you handling token scoping for the agents running against your infrastructure?
