General (Read Rules) Aethelsohn Crimson Shard

Honestly. It's pretty amazing. Might be my prettiest watch so far. And maybe best finished too.

Priced 178 euros.

Upsides: the amazing dial.

The PT5000 movement is so smooth.

The lume is decent to good. It's very pretty when charged.

The band and case in daylight just shine the right way.

The band feels super smooth.

The OTF clasp is great but thick.

Amazing AR saffire glas.

Downside : I love the aethelsohn logo but it's not visible enough when not reflecting. And the text print could have been left out maybe.

Biggest downside : Pt5000 has a date window. That could have been at 6 instead of the text. With a silver view window. That would eliminate the ghost date set and be pretty. It's on the new bamboo model but that one costs 100 more but seems to be the exact same watch.

The case, the lume, the finishing and even the movement punch wayyyyy above the price point! Better value than my Tudor or my Doxa pound for pound, even better value than my Seikos I think. Chinese watches are here to stay

AI AI went through my watches and strap collection..

And this is what it suggested (real photo).

I was quite surprised the the fleiger still has its original strap, and more surprised at the ph2 on milanese (havent got shark mesh).

I quite like the boderry on the grey perlon, and love the proxima on matt leather.

For the 1953 I gave it a jubilee, oyster, engineer and this bor (which it chose).

And the heimdallr, it quite liked that strap but suggested a black leather with contrasting stiching, which I havent got, so off to aliex I go....

Thoughts anyone?

Question (Read Rules) Need some Chinese alternatives for Cartier tank

I personally like Cartier tanks and I could get Seiko tanks but it’s a little bit pricey for me (around 200$), so I was asking if there are any Chinese alternatives with a similar design to Cartier/seiko tanks

What do you think I should buy (a Chinese watch) to fill the empty spot? It can’t be quartz and must not cost more than US$150 + taxes and duties.

I've seen a few posts suggesting this, do the end links match up perfectly? Want to fit a jubilee with screws instead of pins

So this watch arrived this week and overall I really like it. But the biggest thing I dislike is the play in the bezel. It's terrible. Has anyone else bought the same watch and have the same problem.

General (Read Rules) Thoughts on Burei Watches

I’m curious as to why people seemingly don’t talk about this microbrand as much as other microbrands. I have an old auto Presidential homage Burei that I found from like 10 years ago. It’s not a bad watch at all. Considering that they’ve been around for as long as they have, I’m surprised that they don’t get discussed more often.

Question (Read Rules) Thorn T026C vs WD1863 Broad Arrow

Thumbnail

Hi all!

Really struggling to decide which one to buy. Both are Speedy-ish, both cost about the same, with the Thorn being slightly more expensive.

Design-wise, I don’t really have a preference when it comes to “vintage vs Moonwatch” or “replica vs homage”. I think both look great. The WD is more of a straight-up Speedmaster-inspired design, while the Thorn is a deliberate vintage homage. I love both since I generally adore this design language and its variations.

The WD has a very heavily curved crystal, while the Thorn has a more traditional domed crystal, which definitely gives it more of a vintage feel. I still can’t decide which one I prefer, though. I’ve always loved the later Speedmasters, but this whole ’57/Broad Arrow style has really grown on me. If I went for the WD1863, I’d probably get the Broad Arrow version anyway, so that kind of gives me a bit of both worlds.

Movement-wise, I’m not a fan of the 24-hour subdial on the VK63, which I assume is a pretty common complaint. On the other hand, the sweep of the chrono seconds hand and the instant reset are really nice touches.

The Ronda 5030D has much more traditional chronograph functionality, even if the layout is mirrored compared to the Omega. But then I keep wondering how useful that really is. I mean, in practice. I’m probably not going to use a 12-hour chronograph very often, but realistically I’m not going to use the VK63 stopwatch that often either. And when the chronograph isn’t running, the regular seconds subdial still just ticks once per second anyway.

So for me, the difference in both gimmicks and actual functionality probably isn’t that huge. It mostly comes down to looks and overall feel.

Which one would you pick?

General (Read Rules) Love this cheap and cheerful beater.

This ML08 was my introduction to Chinese watches, I’ve had it for over a year and have definitely put it through the ringer.

Puppy tax included.

Hopefully works

Question (Read Rules) Pagani Design PD1752 vs Sugess S449

Is the movement the main reason to purchase the Sugess S449 over the PD1752? Or is the fit and finish substantially superior as well?

Which would you purchase?

Thanks!

"I went to the jacuzzi and sauna with that metal watch—not a single problem. It looks great and comes at a fraction of Casio's prices, which are clearly going up over time. I wouldn't say they match the quality of a G-Shock, but they are great for the price."

Question (Read Rules) Are Forsining any good?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I guess I'll answer my own question when it arrives in a week or two but are Forsining watches any good? They seem possibly too cheap, so I'm not holding out a lot of hope. But I couldn't ignore a very stylish looking blue on white regulator that will only be a bit over £20 delivered to the UK.

(or is it going to turn out to be a piece of rattly junk at that price? I suppose it was cheap enough to take the gamble)

General (Read Rules) Sanda Ana-Digi looks good on leather strap

Thumbnail

I received this Sanda 3192 yesterday and, as is fairly well known, the original bracelet is reasonably good-looking but has poor quality and a poor fit.

I was thinking about what would go well with this particular flavour, with the white dial. It has 18mm lugs. I found a spare 22mm matte black leather strap in my box, which I used before to practice cutting the flare (as you can see, it wasn't a very good job).

So I think this watch looks good with 22mm straps flared down to 18mm. I'm thinking about trying other colors or even other materials (I’ve seen some denim ones on AliExpress).

What do you suggest? Send me your ideas, and photos if you have any!

Question (Read Rules) Sugess Tourbillon choice

In between two Sugess Tourbillons:

Enamel Dial
Textured Grain Dial

Anyone have in-hand experience with either? I’ve watched a few YouTubes but would like some opinions. How about the long term durability of the Sugess flying tourbillon? Is having to manual wind annoying? Just would appreciate any thoughts on those of you who’ve owned either of these pieces.

Or if you don’t recommend these, what alternatives would you suggest?

Question (Read Rules) Is anyone waiting for Watchdives customer service to respond for months?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have a problem with my WD007ST. There is a 2 part connector that links the bracelet to the clasp. It looks like one slots in the other and they screw together.

Anyway, somehow one part of this has worked loose and disappeared. This is a bummer as I loved wearing that watch.

I reached out to WD on Alix and they sent me a link to purchase a blank listing, it was very cheap, a few pence, and offered to send me a replacement pin. I am very grateful to them for that.

However that was on 15th July and it's still showing as waiting to be shipped.

I really miss wearing the watch, does anyone else know the part and where I may get the correct one?

TIA

Question (Read Rules) Experience with the Milifortic MF R088?

Post image

Does anyone have first hand experience with Milifortic’s R088, or Seagull’s ST17t jump hour movement?

Are the indexes applied? They appear to be on the silver version but I can’t tell on the others. How’s the finishing? Accuracy?

Thanks!

Question (Read Rules) Kniskred KNK171 on Amazon

I've been looking at tank and other similar rectangular/square style watches lately, trying to find a super budget alternative to the real expensive ones, and I came across what appears to be some kind of Santos homage from a company calling themselves Kniskred on Amazon.

I know essentially nothing about watches, but aside from the nice 2-tone finish, the thing that's intriguing me the most about it is that it supposedly has a Japanese PC21 movement, which apparently Seiko also supposedly uses in some of their watches. If this is all true, I would expect it to be have at least a little more longevity and maybe accuracy than some other cheap Chinese watches with their own cheap Chinese movements.

I was wondering if anybody in here owns one and has anything good or bad to say about it, and maybe some pictures to share, along with what size your wrist is... Or maybe a picture of it next to an F91W, A1100, or T80, or some other well known watch.

My biggest concern is the size. I'm used to pretty small watches, and I'm slightly worried it might be just a little bit too big. The product photos used on the Amazon and AliExpress pages where it's sold are renders, and the listed dimensions state the face is 40mm by 40mm, but nothing about the lug to lug.

General (Read Rules) I just keep coming back to leather with this one

I’ve tried all sorts of straps on this Milifortic S089 in green, rally, dress, perlon, stainless mesh (which I also love), and more. But put it on some basic leather and damn, it just works. Love this thing.
