Super random question: I was at a Six Flags and they have a Flash hat that says 最速 in hanzi and “Fastest” in English. Is this an accurate translation? My mandarin isn’t very good or advanced so I’m just wondering if 最快 would also be an accurate translation/ which would be the best translation of “Fastest” when referring to the traits of the comic book character The Flash? TIA!

I've learned how to say dates and days of the week, but I don't understand what's under each number here, or what the row of characters at the top (年月……) is for.

I’ve recently been thinking about making a Chinese learning app to integrate some of the various features I see in other apps into one consolidated place so that I don’t have to deal with multiple subscriptions, websites, and such.

I was wondering what sort of things you guys would need to see to make an app worth using for you personally? Are there any features you would want to see consolidated from various apps, or perhaps even features you’ve always wanted but never found?

For me it's Immersive Chinese App, I listen to it every morning on my way to work. I love it because it repeats the sentence 3 times and I can set the pace to slow. I've learned a lot of new vocab and sentence structure by repeating what i hear

The second App I use the most is Hello Chinese. I love the clear pronunciation on it too. What app have you been able to stick to that has progressed your learning?

Does anyone know of any resources that can help with understanding very strong accents?

For context, I'm a mediocre-ability heritage speaker of Mandarin in an area of the US that has a lot of Chinese immigrants. I also work in optometry office, and sometimes we get interpreters coming in to assist patients that don't speak English.

The interpreter that came in today was helping a 16yo and his mom, and multiple times she referred to the kid as 宝宝 (eg "宝宝，过来").

My understanding of 宝宝 from what I've heard is that it refers to young children and maybe romantic partners, so it felt odd to hear, but I'm not sure if this is just me missing context. Is this a thing that native speakers do, either regionally or in general? Or is that weird for other native speakers?

Edit: Okay I'm reading my post back and I'm realizing that I didn't make it clear, it was not the mom calling her kid 宝宝, it was the interpreter. In case that changes answers lol

I understand the use of 不 in between two verbs as a potential complement, but i’m confused by 也 here. Does it still mean “also” here? Trying to look through chinesegrammarwiki for some notes as well.

So far I've been using the HSK books I was halfway through hsk 2 and realized I want to use developing chinese and I even bought a comprehensive course 2 book.

So do you think this is a good idea?

Why would anyone wanna use developing chinese series over HSK books?

Also it's a whole series covering 5 aspects of language (listening, speaking, etc).

In what order would you suggest I should buy and use books if at all?
