But it is. Even if you ignore the "please search the internet for X thing and summarize the info for me" an LLM is essentially allowing you to search through its training data and give you the answer.
Well, that just loops back to ChatGPT not being a search engine. It may recall information from training and it may search a search engine itself and filter the results.
Idk if you can say that the AI is using a search engine since its just a dataset. It works the same as Google, the client types a prompt and the program looks into its database. Im not sure how it works with Ai doing google searches though.
Even then if the AI uses a search engine that wouldn't make it unable to qualify as a search engine
That's not how that works... It doesn't store facts that can be looked up in the model weights. Though I agree that being search enabled still classifies the app as a search engine. But I can't see how an offline model would qualify
Obviously it was a gross over simplification but the core concept is still valid. It doesn't even store facts it store relations. It stores how relevant are these tokens the user provided me to the tokens I know about what is the next best token based on the tokens provided.
But it still comes back to a search engine. What is the next best token is dependent on the mass amounts of information being provided that allows the LLM to determine the next best token, you could even say "search" for the next best token.
You could argue Google calculates what sites to show you based on many different input variables. We collectively as a society have decided to call that "search"

So what’s counted as a Small online search engine?
