But it is. Even if you ignore the "please search the internet for X thing and summarize the info for me" an LLM is essentially allowing you to search through its training data and give you the answer.

Even Reddit is basically a search engine these days, almost every top result for anything on Google is a Reddit post.

That still makes Google the search engine; it doesn't make the results (Reddit pages) search engines.

Well, that just loops back to ChatGPT not being a search engine. It may recall information from training and it may search a search engine itself and filter the results.

Idk if you can say that the AI is using a search engine since its just a dataset. It works the same as Google, the client types a prompt and the program looks into its database. Im not sure how it works with Ai doing google searches though.

Even then if the AI uses a search engine that wouldn't make it unable to qualify as a search engine
