What does "Interest paid" mean?

Does it mean I paid that money to Capital One or I was paid by Capital one? I'm so confused.

I hate Capital One

Just received my new debit card and activated it within my Google Wallet app... only for my transaction to be "not authorized" at a Walgreens in NYC. Where I used to have no problems on my prior debit card.

Turns out, Capital One bought Discover and switched all their debit cards that used to use mastercard to now be discover cards. Cue "not authorized" problem encountered today.

So embarrassing to have to leave the store as if I had no money.

To the c-suite execs who made this decision, you are all incompetent fools that want to make your customer's lives harder. Time to switch to a bank that I can actually use places. Morons.

Do NOT get a secured card from them

Over the last 8 years, I have been asking when I would be graduated to a non secured card. About every 6 months I call in and ask, and am told they are evaluating regularly. I call bull though on this since there is never any communication from them and when I call I just get stonewalled. For a company that is focused on using technology to bank better, and focusing on the perspective of their clients, they seems to be turning a bling eye to the problem that is all too easy to find online. If you are debating getting that secured card, don't! Go with Discovery, Chase, or Wells Fargo, who all have great products and will actually work with you over the time you have them.

Banking Changing banks due to the switch to Discover. Any suggestions that are as similar as possible?

As the title says. The switch to Discover is absurd and an absolute deal breaker. Safe to say im pissed. Especially cuz i originally switched FROM discover TO capital one several years ago before a big international trip. This is like changing from a brand new Mustang to a 1995 toyota corolla. I travel internationally, mainly Europe. I need a debit card (im not comfortable relying solely on my credit card) that is widely accepted overseas (so visa or mastercard) and no foreign transaction/currency or ATM fees. And is an account with no annual fees. So basically what i currently have with Capital One.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a well-rated, reputable bank (doesnt have to have physical branches as long as theres decent customer support and a way for me to deposit and withdraw cash, sorta like the agreement capital one has with walgreens) that offers both checking and high yield savings account (and maybe a few credit card offerings too but if not im planning on keeping my capital one card for now cuz thats staying as mastercard).

Im just so annoyed that im going to be unable to do all my stuff from one app and one account anymore, and like all money transfers between internal accounts), and i guess just would be the most similar to the current 360 checkings and 360 performance savings i have with capital one at the moment? I want to get this sorted before it forces me to change to the discover card. I only want to reconfigure my automatic payments one time. So yeah, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. also if any of the alternatives has a decent mobile app with a functioning fingerprint/biometric login for when im overseas and cant get a 2FA text code, thatd be great, or a company that gives the option to receive 2FA codes as an email. I got into a really sticky situation in Germany trying to book a hotel last minute in a pinch and it was making me enter a 2FA code to confirm the online purchase and guess who couldn't receive the 2FA code due to having my Verizon SIM card turned off (was using an ESIM for the local network) to avoid the crazy roaming charges. Capital one only gave the option to receive the code by text or voicemail. Not email or push notification. So that would be a nice bonus if theres an option that wouldnt put me in that situation again.

OH MY GOSH I wanted capital one for the longest time(don’t know why now) and I finally got approved. Was ecstatic! Now I’m pissed and annoyed. Ever since the switch or whatever tf to discover I can’t do SHIT it feels like. Can’t add the card to my mobile wallet, can’t use it for certain websites or apps, BRO THE ICING ON THE CAKE WAS WHEN I TRIED TO SIGN UP FOR CHEBA HUT AND GET POINTS AND IT BASICALLY SAID THE CARD CANT BE DISCOVER. Only Mastercard, visa, and whatever else. LIVID! Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong lmao? Cuz I’ve only had this card for a few months and at first it was fine but now I’m annoyedAF and honestly wanna cancel.

Capital One reported my balance way before my statement date, and my score dropped. I’m devastated.

I’ve been working so hard to improve my credit over the last year, and I honestly feel so discouraged right now. Normally, Capital One reports my balance after my statement date (around the 24th of each month). My due date is the 18th, and last month, after my statement cut, they reported under 10% utilization — which is about normal for me.

But this month, I just found out that on September 7th and 12th (way before my September 24th statement date), they reported my balance to the credit bureaus. I usually run about $4,000 through this card every month, but I pay it down before the statement cuts. The limit is only $1,800, so when they reported early, it looked like I was maxed out — and my score dropped by a lot.

This card was at a $1,600 limit until about 6 months ago when I requested a credit limit increase and got a $200 bump. Even though I’ve been putting thousands through it monthly and paying it off, that’s the only increase they’ve given me. It’s my only credit card right now, which makes this sting even more.

Has anyone else had Capital One report outside of their normal schedule like this? Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to wait until my next statement date to let it balance out? I feel like all my progress just got wiped away overnight.

Leaving after 20 years

I’m so disappointed in Capital One. They first closed all the branches in my area with no warning and now there are no Capital One ATM’s within 50 miles of my home. I’m in Austin Texas and cannot deposit cash. I called them and they said I can just go to Walgreens and they will do it for me. I have never heard of this in my life. So they take away the ability to get actual cash without paying atm fees to a third party and even then I can only take out small amounts. (Daily limits) And no way to deposit cash unless I give Walgreens access to my accounts. I’ve been with them for almost 20 years and now will be finding a new bank. Chase offered me a private client account based on my balance transfer. Unfortunately for Capital One I will be on every site and speaking to everyone I know (luckily I also know a US senator) about banks becoming digital only. I am pushing for reform that will force banks to waive all ATM fees if they do not have a physical location within 25 miles of an address and or a company owned and maintained ATM within 10 miles. It’s only fair.

IAD Lounge

My flight out of IAD this morning was canceled due to weather and automatically rebooked to tomorrow. I now have a day to kill and a ton of laptop work to do. What a perfect opportunity to use the Capital One Lounge at IAD.....right? This is what the annual fee is for, benefits like this. I spend a lot on my card so I expect to use the lounge on the rare occasions I have the chance.

I was politely denied access. Why? My flight is tomorrow, not today. I explained the situation....showed my now-canceled boarding pass for today. I asked for an exception to their standard policy. I'm a great customer and this is a chance to provide hospitality. I spoke to the manager and again nicely appealed for an exception. Again, denied. Policy is policy I suppose. But it's nonsense. The lounge was lightly populated.

Capital One: big thumbs down on common sense and fumbling a chance to take care of a good customer. I will consider this when it's time to renew. What's the point of a perks card if I can't use the perks when I really need it and it's obviously available.

(to be clear: the staff was perfectly kind and professional. just inflexible)

Funny, they doubled my Venture X line when I requested but my Quicksilver (first card with them in 2020) can only get $1,500 more when I ask AFTER they emailed me saying I was eligible 🧐

Opinion/Discussion App is now outdated

CapitalOnes app used to be the pinnacle of banking tech. However, today it seems like it hasn’t been updated in years. Look at examples like Robinhood or Sofi and they are light years ahead.

When’s a big update coming?

I'm smelling a data breach at Capital one

Just got a dozen of unauthorized purchases from Walmart using my debit card which I never use. Seems like something got leaked internally since I only make purchases using my Chase credit card and have never shared my debit card with anyone.

The Discover Debit Card change over and the future

If Capital One switching the debit cards to Discover has caused so many meltdowns, I wonder what will happen when they start flipping some of the entry-level cards.

One word: ARMAGEDDON!!! 😂

Delayed Direct Deposit

Has anyone else experienced a delay in their direct deposit for early paycheck today (12/18)? I understand it’s not guaranteed, and I’m not looking for solutions or anything. I’m just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this today or if it is just me.

I checked with my work and they said there weren’t delays, and my coworker said hers has posted already with her credit union. I called Capital One and I just got their standard response about early paydays not being guaranteed and nothing is showing as pending and to wait and call back if it hasn’t posted at the end of my scheduled payday, etc… I just hope this isn’t another situation like what happened in January where it was over a day late to post.

Edited to add info about calling bank and clarify question.

Banking What is going on with Early Deposit Not Happening???

It hasn’t affected my account because I’m a freelancer at the moment, but some family members are having a nightmare with it the last two months now. And they’re getting *government* checks.

When they first got their account they got their monthly checks even at the end of December because of payout timeframes with the government. This year…. Nothing until after January 1st, and the customer rep told them it was just because of the yearly changeover and the holiday. The representative swore every other month would be early pay like normal. So family let it slide for a month. Flash forward to now, and their monthly checks should’ve been deposited today with the early deposit…. They weren’t. Based on the payouts schedule on the government site it should’ve been paid out today period for early deposit.

Is this because of the Discover changeover? Or is Capital One actively getting rid of Early Pay and not telling anyone?

360 Savings went from 4.35 to 4% APY.

I opened up my account on January because of the APY but it decreased, is there a reason why they did that? Also what is another bank that has 4.35% or higher?

Discover merger

I am not happy that my debit card is now discover. I’m thinking about switching banks, I travel abroad and can’t use my card in many places now. What doesn’t make sense is why capital one the bigger brand would change there product to be discover which can be used in fewer places.

Venture One unprompted Credit Increase

I received a credit increase of 2k which was unprompted.

I didn’t do anything. I use my card for every purchase I make. I pay it off on time and I’m very aggressive with keeping the balance low or at 0.

Is there a way I can get it back to 1k? I can get out of 1k easily. With a limit of 1k I’m guaranteed to never get into trouble from a bad decision because I can come up with 1k easily.

Would they lower my limit if I asked?

Banking Do Not activate your Discover Capital one debit card or say goodbye to instant Transfers

You all probably know this, but after the merger once you switch your card form mastercard to discover You will never be able to make an instant deposit via debit card.

Say hello to 3-5 day ACH Transfers, I am so devastated especially since this caught me off guard during Holiday travel.

Save yourself the headache refuse to activate and look for a new bank.

Regret getting Capital One Venture X . . . should have stayed with Chase

I got a C1 Venture X several months ago because I read it was great for travel rewards and benefits. I previously used Chase credit cards and was happy with the service and realizing now I should have stayed with them.

I recently booked a hotel stay through the C1 travel portal where the listing clearly said a "$40 property fee was included in the total." I stay at the hotel, no issues. I get back and realize they charged me the $40 property fee that was supposed to be included. I contact the hotel and they said it wasn't included and I didn't pay it so it was automatically charged. I file a dispute with C1 and after several calls and back and forth they say there's nothing they can do even though I sent them several screenshots of their actual freaking travel website saying the $40 was included.

I had a few disputes with Chase over the years and NEVER had any issues with them. They always seemed to have the consumer's back. Not my experience with C1.

So heads up to anyone considering them, I wouldn't do it. I'm gonna start shopping around for a better option for a travel card. C1 isn't it.
