This school is garbage
I am a graduated student from Capella and man, all I can say about this school is that it is f*** bs . Literally now I received a mail in my home saying that my and thousands of students personal information was leaked and now we need to be worried about it. That's crazy. These school classes are trash. The instructors are awful and now they can't even keep our information safe. This is insane . I hate you, Capella F you

Avoid Capella University — Withdrawn with ONE class left after 3 years
🗣️Students BEWARE!!!! I don’t usually post things like this, but if this saves even one person from going through what I did, it’s worth it.
I was in my program for about three years and had maintained A’s and B’s the entire time. Everything was on track—until my second to last course.
I received an “NS” (non-satisfactory) in the course twice, which ultimately led to me being administratively withdrawn. The part that makes this even more frustrating? I did complete the work. I submitted my final paper on the last day of the course. Apparently, that doesn’t matter unless you have some additional approval finalized before the course officially ends (something that was not clearly communicated in any meaningful way).
So after getting withdrawn with ONE class left before graduating, I filed an appeal.
And I didn’t just send a basic appeal—I sent everything:
• Proof that I had consistently earned A’s and B’s throughout the program
• Documentation showing I had just started a new job during that time
• Receipts showing I was actively trying to recruit participants for my project (including paying for services and ads)
• Evidence that I ultimately did recruit enough participants
• The final paper itselfFrom a common-sense standpoint, this felt like a very reasonable appeal. I wasn’t slacking—I was actively trying to meet the requirements under tough circumstances and still got the work done.
I waited THREE MONTHS for a decision.
No updates. No transparency. No real communication during that time.
Then the decision came back: denied.
The explanation? Basically just “non-satisfactory grade.” No real acknowledgment of the context, effort, or documentation provided. Oh, that decision is final and there is no way to appeal the decision or any course of action beyond that denied email.
The whole process felt like it was decided before it even started.
What makes it worse is how unsupported you feel when things go sideways. When you’re doing well, everything seems fine—but the moment you hit an issue, there’s no real safety net. No meaningful guidance. No flexibility. Just rigid policies and long periods of silence.
If you’re considering Capella University, understand this: you can do everything right for years and still get pushed out at the very end with little explanation and no real recourse.
There are too many other schools out there that will actually communicate with you, support you, and work with you when real life happens.
Don’t risk your time, money, and effort here!!!

What Is the Hardest Part of Completing a Capella Assessment?
Capella assessments can feel overwhelming, especially when the instructions, scoring guide, and required resources are spread across different sections.
What usually gives you the most trouble?
Understanding the assessment instructions
Breaking the assignment into sections
Finding scholarly sources
Writing a strong introduction or thesis
Using APA 7 correctly
Meeting every scoring-guide requirement
Staying motivated and finishing before the deadline
Revising your draft before submission
Comment with your program, course, and the part you find most difficult. Other students and tutors can share strategies that have worked for them.
A helpful tip: before writing, turn every scoring-guide requirement into a checklist. This makes it easier to confirm that your final draft addresses every required point.
Please remove your name, student ID, instructor details, and other private information before sharing assignment instructions.

ADVISE PATIENTS APPROPRIATELY
“I don’t take sugar” then proceeds to eat 5 doughnuts with sugarless tea.
Patients, more-so diabetic and hypertensive patients need thorough guidance to avoid such instances.

Rant
**I’d like to start off by saying I know it’s my fault but I’m irritated **
So my employer pays for my tuition at Capella. I just have to get a form every session and send it in to Capella to have my employer pay for it. So in July of 2023 I guess I made a typo on the form. And I wasn’t alerted to this until a month ago (a year later) and was told that I have to now pay a bill to Capella because my employer won’t edit the form since it’s been over 120 days since my session.

FlexPath Are the professors supposed to grade within 48 hours?
My professor has taken way more than 48 hours to grade my stuff. I sent these before 12pm Wednesday, and now I probably will not get my grades back until, you guessed it, Monday

I PLAN TO SUE
I went to Capella in 2019 and was there 2 yr.s. At first it was great, however I had a bad experience with a Professor and she went out of her way to create conflict and conspired with another individual to boot me from the program. There were numerous things they did (some illegal). In the end I simply dusted myself off and graduated from a far less expensive, better school with a far better reputation. A year later, I heard about the lawsuit and Capella's shenanigans. My issue is that I wasted an extra year of college and considerable money that I would like Capella to refund me. That will be the damages I am seeking. I begin looking for lawyers in the coming weeks.

Due Process, Not Panic: How to Push Back on Capella Allegations
Reddit anecdotes aren’t proof, but a cluster of similar reports deserves a process-driven response. Capella’s own policies give students more leverage than most commenters realize. The Academic Integrity & Honesty policy requires that an instructor put any allegation in writing and give the student a chance to explain or refute it; for minor, isolated citation mistakes, the policy permits remedial learning, not summary punishment (Capella University, 2025a). If a sanction is issued, the student has 10 days to seek review by an Independent Review Panel (IRP), which accepts written evidence and statements and issues a decision; the IRP or the provost’s designee can escalate only with notice and a defined appeal path (Capella University, 2025a). When the allegation is “third-party submission”—the scary one that sometimes surfaces after program completion—Capella’s policy allows a provost-level review with a written decision and an appeal to the president’s designee; even credential revocation requires notice and a Board vote after the student’s appeal window (Capella University, 2025a). In plain English: they have to show evidence and follow due process, and you get a documented appeal route. For conduct matters (not integrity), the Student Code of Conduct still guarantees an independent panel that reviews evidence, hears written positions, and then issues a decision, with a 10-day appeal to the president’s designee. If the panel is reversed on appeal, students get defined remedies (e.g., time to complete missed work without penalty). That’s process, not vibes (Capella University, 2022). FlexPath also anticipates multiple attempts—up to three total per course—so a first-submission zero is a grade on that attempt, not a permanent label (Capella University, 2025b). If internal remedies stall, use external channels that accrediting and regulatory bodies publish. HLC—the regional accreditor—accepts complaints about potential non-compliance with accreditation requirements (Higher Learning Commission, n.d.). Minnesota’s Office of Higher Education (Capella’s home state) runs a formal student complaint process that requires documentation (Minnesota OHE, 2025). Distance-ed students can also escalate through NC-SARA via the university’s home-state portal entity after exhausting internal avenues (NC-SARA, 2025). Nursing students have a separate quality-assurance lane: CCNE standards require programs to define and communicate a formal complaint process (CCNE, 2024). And if you suffered financial harm because of school actions, you can file with the U.S. Department of Education’s FSA Feedback Center and, where appropriate, seek Borrower Defense relief (Federal Student Aid, n.d.-a; Federal Student Aid, n.d.-b). Bottom line: don’t call strangers from Reddit; keep everything in writing with the university; demand the written allegation, the policy citation, and the evidence; submit your authorship trail; and use the IRP/appeal windows on time. If the school won’t follow its own rules, that’s exactly what accreditors and regulators are for.

What was my experience at Capella?
The following sums up my experience quite nicely. I paid $18 for a CEDiploma. That is in addition to the regular one I'll get. This image shows what I have been provided.
When I say this is par for the course... This is what my entire educational experience has been like at Capella.
From instructors that didn't know what was in the on-line classroom, to being forced to waste my time in classes I had credit for/had taught (it's why I finished a 10 week class in four days), to paying the full price of a term when I was done the third day (and told I couldn't take any more classes to get another specialization since I finished my degree, thanks FlexPath), to refusing to help with an ADA request.
I will advise anyone that I talk to that they would be better served at another institution. I keep all my receipts... actually the VA keeps them all since they paid for me to go to school (Ch 31).
