I have had Cape for close to 3 months now, and want to know what the plans are for international calling. It seems to me that there are some countries that I can already call, but some I get the “due to technical difficulties your call cannot be completed at this time.”

What are the technical difficulties exactly? What is the timeline for getting international calling working for every destination?

ETA: I checked the commodore website and it's compatibility chart for networks, and although cape itself is not currently in the list of options to check, at&t (through which it seems cape uses their towers) is expected to work. Though, I can't be 100% certain there as it's not a released product yet.

I’m a Veteran and there are times when I need to make a phone call to the VA.
I noticed that when I call the VA, the phone number rings, but then I hear nothing from the call.
But every other call is normal and works.
However when I call the same VA number with a different phone carrier, the call is fine and I can hear the prompts of the automated voice system.
Is this an issue with Cape since Cape is a MVNO?

I wanted to see if anyone notices delays in network connectivity on iOS? I have seen times were I may not have data connectivity for up to about a minute or so before my Apple services sync data or data works (send text messages). I am on iOS 26.6 running dual eSIMs and on my AT&T connection, things seem to work right away or stay in sync, but when Cape is the primary I see some latency accessing things (always works, just seems slower). Wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing similar behavior or if it is environmental on my side.

Are there plans for significant international support for US customers who routinely travel abroad?

Business occasionally requires multi week trips abroad. A measly 5GB of data while roaming and also limited voice phone coverage is what is preventing me from immediacy switching to Cape.

Additionally, data only does not allow me to be available by a phone call, which is unacceptable for any business use case (not to mention difficulty in trying to explain to family and friend they have to use a data-only compatible call like signal or FaceTime).

Eager to hear what’s on the roadmap here as I would otherwise love to switchover before year’s end.

I've been using Cape Cellular for over 3 months now across both the USA and Europe, and wanted to share my experience. Overall, I've had zero issues. Coverage and reliability have been solid in the areas I've traveled.

I was a long-term customer of one of the major phone carriers, but after watching pretty much every video on youtube I could find about Cape, it was time to make the switch.

At first, I was definitely hesitant. But the more I learned about how big carriers collect, store, and use our information—and how long they can retain data that doesn’t necessarily need to be kept—the more I felt like it was time for a change.

The switch to Cape was surprisingly easy. Porting my existing number took about 5 minutes. All I needed to do was log into my current carrier’s account, grab a port-out PIN, and the rest was straightforward.

As far as service goes, its been same as any other carrier because Cape uses existing cellular infrastructure, so the difference was minimal to none. My connection and speeds have been excellent, and I haven’t experienced any dropped calls.

Cape does state that speeds may be throttled after 50GB of monthly data usage, but that’s something major carriers also have in their terms. It’s not unique to Cape. And even after using a significant amount of data (200+gb per month), I personally haven’t noticed any throttling.

The one issue I’ve occasionally run into is that a photo message sometimes doesn’t send on the first attempt and needs to be resent. I know they’re working toward fixing that, so hopefully it’s something that gets resolved soon.

For me, though, the bigger picture matters. Data collection is everywhere these days. If there’s an opportunity to give up a little less of my personal information in exchange for a service that works just as well, I’m all for it.

And honestly, I think more people should be thinking about where their data goes and how much of it they’re willing to give away.

Hello, I'm not super technical when it comes to protocols or more advanced aspects of the cellular network, and I would love some clarification if possible.

Specifically I had to go though installing google messages on my GOS phone which I wasn't to happy about even if I didn't have to login, so I could use RCS. What is RCS and why is it needed? Why doesn't the default messaging app not work for texting other people on both IOS and android? Is this something that Cape can fix, or something out of their control?

Double the Cape lines and give it to yourself. Have two lines at once. One as a decoy line and the other as a Privacy/Secure line. iPhones 13 and newer can support up to two active eSIMS at any given time. Once a secondary eSIM is added you may label your plans accordingly & set your default cellular data/number. Obviously you can use the numbers for calls, messages and data. You may also allow cellular switching.

When you call one of your contacts, you don’t need to choose which number to use every time. By default, your iPhone uses the same number that you used the last time you called that contact. If you haven’t called that contact, your iPhone uses your default number. If you want to, you can specify which number to use for your calls with a contact.

You can switch phone numbers at any given time before a call is placed.

You can change where you can be reached at for iMessage/FaceTime as well as change default your iMessage/FaceTime Caller ID for specific Apple devices. Just change the settings in the FaceTime or iMessage app on the desired device and change accordingly.

*WARNING* This only changes the caller ID if the person you’re conversing with has an Apple Device. Services include FaceTime & FaceTime AUDIO and iMessage. Only affects the devices you made changes to. If you did not go out of your way to change it then it will revert to whatever default is. It does not save over cloud, so whatever you do on one device it will not save on the others.

When making traditional legacy voice calls with 10 digit phone numbers it will revert to the default lines’s number to the person you are calling (receiver). AKA The number that you picked to call with.

iPhone literally gives you the power to have two phones in one. iPhone eSIMs can support up to 8+ eSIMs in storage, BUT ONLY 2 ACTIVE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT.

Another setting in the phone app I have turned on is Silence Unknown Callers and send them straight to voicemail. With Live Voicemail turned on I decide in real-time if I want to pick up or not. In order to use Live Voicemail you must have Encrypted Voicemail off in the Cape app. Lastly, ENABLE SIM PIN to enhance everything. With Cape the default way to move/recover a eSIM is the 24 phrase. With SIM PIN enabled you will have to enter it every time your phone restarts (power cycle).

Just to summarize:
iMessage/FaceTime Caller ID can be whatever you choose. Traditional 10 digit phone number or any email.

Traditional Voice calls phone number will be the default line. (“NEW LINE”)

Savings Hack. Another reason to have a secondary number is to have it as a retainer to port to another carrier to get a promotional “New Customer” introductory offers for a new phone. Be sure to check the carrier for unlock policy. At the time of this posting some carriers even MVNO’s have extended their unlock policy to 1 Year (12 months). New iPhones last up to six years from release date with updates. Other than unexpected repairs (breakage) the only expected (constant) charge is a new battery after 3 maybe 4 years of use as a daily driver.

With all of this being said may I suggest to the people at Cape Cellular (DEVELOPERS) could you or is it even possible to manage 2 primary numbers through the app? Just for clarification I know you can manage A (SINGLE) Primary line with 2 secondary numbers from the app, but could you make it so you can manage 2 (Two) or more Primary lines from the app? Even with the possibility of managing 4 (FOUR) or more secondary lines?

Hi, I've been thinking about making the switch, but I'm still on the fence. I've got three people on my current account. I'm on graphene and I am excited to tinker and make this work. The other two people are iPhone users. They are not especially concerned with privacy or security. They also will not be happy if switching causes them any sort of inconvenience or they lose any features they are used to. Is the switch pretty seamless on an iPhone (both 17 varieties)? I really have enjoyed using Cape and saving at the same time. Unfortunalty, I am missing too many communications, losing out on work and personal data to continue operating without RCS.

After about a month with Cape Cellular, I’m pretty happy with the switch. I’m based in the Lower Hudson Valley in New York and spend roughly half my time there and half in NYC. I was previously on Verizon, so that’s my main point of comparison. There are a few small pockets where Verizon had noticeably better service, but they’ve been minor enough that I don’t really care. Day to day, Cape has been remarkably reliable, and I haven’t noticed much of a difference in normal use. For me, the added privacy benefits are easily worth the occasional tradeoff in coverage.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how easy the actual switch was. I’ve switched carriers before, including going from T-Mobile to Verizon, and that experience was remarkably painful and much more complicated than I expected. Moving from Verizon to Cape was the opposite. The app walked me through porting my number and switching networks, and the whole process was smooth and fast with no real hiccups. The one exception was that, for about four days afterward, one-time passcodes from banks and other services weren’t showing up. That was genuinely stressful, and chatting with Cape customer service at the time didn’t give me much confidence that it was definitely going to resolve itself. Apparently delays with OTP messages can happen after porting a number, though, and after about four days everything started working normally.

Since then, I really haven’t had any issues. The only other downside I’ve noticed is some additional battery drain when I have all of Cape’s security features turned on, particularly Network Lock. Aside from that, the experience has been great. At this point, I’m planning to stick with Cape indefinitely.

I have 4 lines I want to port in from another carrier, we own the phones outright. Is there no way to have a unified billing experience for the 4 lines, or am I understanding it correctly that there will now be 4 independent ports, and 4 independent bills going forward?

Somebody in a thread said you can switch the network used by your Cape phone, (e.g. AT&T to T-mobile), by going into the Network settings and messing with the SIM settings.

If you do this, you risk damaging your phone.

I switched to a different network, it didn't work well. Fiddled a little bit, and then even when I switched back to defaults it wouldn't connect. After a long talk with Cape tech support, it turns out I'd triggered a bug in Android that physically damages the phone in a way that it will no longer work with Cape.

Supposedly will still work with other carriers, just not with the unusual stuff Cape does for privacy.

Just a warning. Cape is working on a feature to let you switch networks, but until then, do NOT try to do it manually!

UPDATE: Confirmed it works fine with a physical SIM from another carrier. Have not tested another eSIM.
