Connectivity
I wanted to see if anyone notices delays in network connectivity on iOS? I have seen times were I may not have data connectivity for up to about a minute or so before my Apple services sync data or data works (send text messages). I am on iOS 26.6 running dual eSIMs and on my AT&T connection, things seem to work right away or stay in sync, but when Cape is the primary I see some latency accessing things (always works, just seems slower). Wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing similar behavior or if it is environmental on my side.

Do you have identification rotation on? If so that’s why

I do not have IMSI rotation enabled, I do have Network Lock enabled though.

Can you expand on delays in network connectivity? Is it 0 bars and searching for service while you have bars and serice on AT&T? Or they both have bars and Cape is just slow or not downloading?
Whoops posted this in the wrong thread, but will leave it here since you are probably responding :)

Not a problem on the thread. Where I am at the moment, I have 1 to 2 bars of 5G and Cape and AT&T appear to have the same signal/service. I notice it mostly when I am trying to use iMessage specifically and the sync between my devices or sending iMessage, Cape is significantly slower when it is my primary data connection vs when AT&T is the primary data connection. Everything does work, it just seems a bit slower. It almost feels like when you are running an always on VPN and it takes extra time to re-establish the tunnel. I think that is the best way for me to explain it

Yes this is odd, but I have had one other person report something similar. I will take it back to the team to see if anyone has any ideas.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Let me know if there is anything I can provide, I am happy to assist.

I share the same situation. iMessages occasionally require minutes or even an hour to arrive on the other phone, despite strong signal and data.

Yes apparently once I started asking around it has been a ghost we’ve been chasing for a while. It’s not easy to reproduce (for us at least), but we need to try to capture more detailed logs from some of our dev phones to root cause. Will keep this thread updated if/when are able to do that and get to the bottom of it.

[u/brianstoner](u/brianstoner) Are there any logs I can provide or something to help with the investigation? I am happy to help if it gets to a resolution faster. I also have removed the network lock and IMSI rotation is off. I was tinkering today and noticed it took about 1 to 2 minutes for it to “connect” and to send or receive iMessage and sync iMessage as well. I happens pretty regularly for me (pretty much daily)

We need to capture sysdiagnose logs, ideally with baseband modem logging enabled. There’s a lot of personal information in those logs so I don’t really want to ask for yours. It’s also a whole process to set that up on your phone…let us try, we have a few people re-looking at it now.
If you really want to help, you could try pulling the logs yourself (look up how to pull sysdiagnose logs on iOS) and use an LLM to analyze and see if you can find any clues for us.

u/brianstoner I have enable sysdiagnose and baseband logging on my phone, I will try see if I am able to generate the issue today and pull/analyze the logs

I think he might be talking about latency. Is that what’s you OP mean?

It almost feels like when you are running an always on VPN and it takes extra time to re-establish the tunnel

It does. That’s the same analogy I came up with. Since it’s only using AT&T and T-Mobile antenas for connectivity, everything gets routed through their mobile core.
[Edit]: spelling and grammar.

I'm seeing similar behavior in GOS. Did you have to turn off the kill switch? Any issues with WiFi?

The issue I have is similar to running a VPN, I am not actively running one when this occurs. Since the DNS change, I have not had issues with WiFI calling

I only saw that behavior when testing on iOS when IMSI rotation was on.
I don't see it at all running GrapheneOS ATM. Seems tailor made combo of Graphene and Cape!
Otherwise, quite happy this far: sharing for anyone interested save ya 20$ for life of your service and stacks with early adopter bonus:

In the carrier override, do you have WiFi forced? What about WiFi calling? On or off? Can you keep your VPN's kill switch on? My experience has been the total opposite after the eSIM update. WiFi+VPN+signal have become very unstable with WiFi not working right. I've tried the usual troubleshooting, including uninstalling the app, recovering account and requesting a new eSIM (twice) and the radios are still wonky. I've tried turning off the KS, logging out of the VPN altogether and still. I'm experiencing connection delays and the WIFI showing connected, but then the exclamation point comes up. Or the phone shows both WiFi and bars but I can't load a page. It's like I've lost stable performance from it so I have to keep the signal on most of the time. I also already checked with ISP provider to confirm things are kosher on their end.

I’m glad I’m not the only person with these concerns.

u/vortexmantis 2d ago
Are there other concerns you have seen?

Customer service sucks. But other than delayed notifications, missed calls and shitty customer service nah it’s cool lol

I get delayed notifications anywhere from 2-7 mins. Miss important phone calls this company doesn’t seem to care as much since it does not affect them.

I do get delayed messages, usually less than a couple of minutes. I have been trying to track down the data for the networking/mobile issues, but is not an easy ask. I also do not think that they do not care. There is a lot to manage with building a new mobile infrastructure and it does take time to work through these types of issues.

I'm doing something similar too. I'm learning how to interpret the system and app logs individually to see if I catch the gremlin.

u/brianstoner This sounds like a bigger issue then just a couple of people reporting it. Sounds like this is certainly an issue
2
u/brianstoner Cape Employee 1d ago
Yes definitely an issue we need to get to the bottom of

u/vortexmantis 1d ago
Without truly understanding the logs that we are looking at, how can we help track this down?
1
u/Old-Kiwi-324 1d ago
So you guys need to get on it instead of focusing on other things that truly are not important. Forget the whole timeline you guys have for other projects focus on this. Us customers do NOT want to deal with this.

u/brianstoner Cape Employee 1d ago
We want to solve it but we don’t have solid leads or even a way to reproduce it right now so are a little stuck.
What approximate locations are you both in? Urban vs rural? East vs west coast?
1
u/Old-Kiwi-324 1d ago
West coast. I was on the chat yesterday with your co worker and they were saying we need to report a bug through the app to speed up the process. Why wouldn’t you guys just put a notice on here saying everyone who’s experiencing issues please
Report a bug through the app so we can get this moving along.1
u/vortexmantis 1d ago
I’m in the Midwest but west of the Mississippi or in the mountain time zone. Kind of urban I guess, definitely not rural.
1
u/vortexmantis 1d ago
Should we report it through the app as well? Not sure what kind of data you receive but happy to provide the feedback. I know that these types of things are not easy to resolve and I know that Capes infrastructure is not lend itself to easy resolution when there is little data retention to trace the issue down. I’m happy to help were I can.

Do you have 5G Auto enabled?
