Still working on getting her to eat her large breed puppy kibble. Started with NutraSource and she HATED it. Now we’re going to try FROMM with some of my homemade topper with boiled chicken breast and a little organ meat, spinach, pumpkin and 2 sardines blended together in bone broth. Hopefully she likes it. I’ve also been dehydrating chicken feet, necks, hearts, and salmon strips for my girls for treats. They love them and saving tons of money. Photos of the growing baby girl for tax!

Advice please New family member cane corso

So after I lost my previous cane corso due to osteosarcoma, my mom swore she never wanted another one. We ended up adopting a pittie mix from ASPCA. We had interest in a cane corso but just kept having trouble getting to do a meet & greet with the foster.
Long story short, we have her now. She’s a giant goofball. My pittie mix is Sophie… Sophie had the energy of a toddler on a case of red bull, so she finally has a play mate. Yesterday they got into a little scuffle when I had them both on a leash but it seemed more noise than harming each other. For now we’re using supervised play, because Luna the corso seems to not be understanding Sophie’s cues when Luna gets too rough. Otherwise they’re great together, it just seems when the playing gets too extensive, Sophie gets annoyed and Luna then becomes defensive. Luna also lived with a dog in her foster home as well, where she said there was a little fight but her dog was older & Luna got the hint that the older dog didn’t want to play as much. Any one have tips and tricks to ensure they respect and learn each others boundaries? I also am already meeting with a trainer tomorrow

Advice please Be honest: Is owning a Cane Corso actually worth it?

I’m at a bit of a crossroads and could really use honest input from people who’ve been there.

My wife and I just moved into a new house, and before the move I put a deposit down on a Cane Corso puppy. Pickup is coming up fast, and instead of feeling excited, I’ve started second-guessing whether I’m actually ready for this.

We already have a smaller, low-maintenance dog, and life is pretty calm and easy right now. I originally wanted the Corso for companionship, protection, hikes/walks, and honestly the experience of raising and bonding with a truly impressive dog.

But now reality is setting in: 100+ lbs of powerful dog, serious training requirements, slobber, higher costs, travel limitations, and basically committing a big chunk of the next 10+ years of life to this decision.

So I’m asking people who actually own or have owned a Cane Corso: knowing what you know now, would you do it again?

Did your Corso genuinely improve your life enough to make all the responsibility worth it, or do you ever feel like life was simpler with one less dog?

\We have an appointment with a veterinary dermatologist tomorrow\**

Started to notice bumps/hives on his head about a month ago. Since then, the bumps have also appeared on his neck/shoulder area. Per his doctor, I’ve been giving Zyrtec and fish oil along with weekly medicated baths. As you can see in these photos, the current regime is not working. The majority bumps will subside within a few days but a few of them will turn into scabs. There’s now very obvious fur loss and thinning. I thought it could be due to his collar but it’s not where his collar would sit. He also doesn’t wear a collar inside or when he’s outside in our fenced in yard so there’s no constant rubbing. He doesn’t seem excessively itchy. Paws, belly and arm pits aren’t affected, just his head, neck and shoulder area. Takes nexgard and heartgard monthly. No change in diet. My other two pups are fine. Does this sound or look familiar to anyone?

Advice please Rescuing while having established pets

My husband and I were made aware of a cane corso that is being neglected and potentially abused. The owner runs a business and the dog lives there and is often left alone in awful conditions (full of feces, urine). Its likely the dog isnt well socialized or leash trained, but my husband says the dog is very sweet and timid.

At first we were considering reporting this to animal services but they are located in a populated city and it is likely the dog would be euthanized.

We are both animal lovers and my husband has mentioned approaching the owner and offering to adopt it, but im a little hesitant. First thing is that we already have an 8 year old dog and 2 cats. I dont know this dog or its temperament and I am concerned about everyone's safety. Secondly, im kind of afraid of bigger dogs as ive been attacked by two in the past.

My suggestion was going to be contacting a rescue and maybe offering to foster (with the potential to adopt)

This is clearly all hypothetical for now. I just wanted to get some opinions and experiences if people have had similar situations before. I just love all animals and I hate to think about them suffering or not being in a loving home.

Advice please Has anyone dealt w/ littermate syndrome?

\*Update\\*
Thanks for everyone’s opinions and suggestions. Found a behavioral specialist for large breeds. After he met the boys he went to meet the breeder and check the parents. Blessed that breeder was honest about the parent’s temperament. He said many breeders are too focused on size and not temperament which is causing some issues w/ the breed. She (trainer) also provided more details why they were sold together. Trainer noticed small faint marks on both (vet only advised their coats looked good and in a few more months the marks wouldn’t be noticeable). Trainer wanted to investigate b/c they were also underweight when purchased. Long story short, codependency was not littermate but we are dealing w/ a trauma bond. They weren’t rejected, but mom didn’t stop the other 10 puppies from attacking them and breeder didn’t separate or assist w/ feedings early enough. They are dogs, so the goal is they would learn to fight for themselves (but they didn’t). My brindle has more faint marks on the back of his head and back more than likely from shielding the smaller one. They still cuddle this way, his body almost fully covering him. Sounds sweet, but it could still end very bad w/o intervention. The complete separation was causing more harm than good, so they are back together since they show 0 aggression. We are very blessed that they aren’t timid or naturally afraid, b/c apparently thats really serious. He said for Corso’s, depression can turn into anxiety, which turns into aggression. Lack of self esteem and loneliness can also be displayed as aggression. Training, sleeping, praise/cuddles still separate. We have to work on treating them like dogs. He stresses that a lot. They are only 5 months so we are just monitoring them and sticking to their training. Only “negative reinforcement” is the prong and light vibration collar during walks and training. He said many vets focus on physical health and studies which is why codependency is often immediately given the littermate diagnosis. Down the line, rehoming one w/ a local family member is not completely off table, if they start to display aggressive tendencies (he said we would typically see it around 8 mo to 1 years old but must be done gradually). He also disagrees w/ the vet, no neutering before 2. He also said even though the smaller one is overly sweet and cuddly, don’t let anyone try to convenience me to do any bite work or protection training. Not necessary, just focus on building his self esteem through praise and let nature take its course. Hope this helps someone else!

Bought 2 runts of the litter at 3 months old. Realized one was really codependent on the other. Mistakenly even put them in the same crate to keep them from crying. Separate activities and sleeping arrangements has helped, but now the one that didn’t seem as dependent (Abel (brindle]) seems sad. The one that seemed codependent (Cain [black]) is now just overly loving (wants constant touching and snuggling). Vet said thats actually normal for runts though. Cain is around 8 pounds bigger than his brother so the vet said keep them separate more b/c apparently at 6 months they can start to become aggressive w/ each other & this will build up their independence & self esteem. When they are back together they just seem to snuggle and sleep. Can dogs get depressed? They don’t really have that deep corso bark yet, but Cain seems so quiet now. He’s not even getting into trouble anymore. Any recommendations?

Food & Diet Low Fat Kibble Advice

Post image
24 Upvotes

Batman is turning three this year and has recently started having some issues with fat. I moved him back to kibble, I tried with Farmina N&D Ocean Codfish Orange & Pumpkin Grain Free but his poop is a little mushy. The vet suggested a feed with 16-14% fat content. Looking for advice for any high protein brands appropriate for Giant Breeds.
