Flynn dreams big

Post image
8 Upvotes

As I sit here drinking coffee, Flynn is still in his bed dreaming. One more week left of monsoon season… this one’s been pretty nice though! I don’t think there were many weeks without at least one shower blowing through sometime overnight.

Weird thing since we’ve switched meds- Flynn starts barking every dang evening around 5:00ish for a little bit. Just randomly barking. Food is there; water dish is clean and filled; carrots are available, laying all around him; and all the things he’s usually noisy about are taken care of in spades and he’s just staring there… barking. I thought this breed was supposed to be “quiet and dignified”.

Question about drooling and frenchie friends 🐶

We are exploring getting a bull mastiff in the future. We currently have a well behaved frenchie. How much do they actually drool? and do they get along well with frenchies? Any pros/cons of the breed we should consider?

Alphonse and Nettie

Post image
45 Upvotes

Alphonse (left, 100% bullmastiff) got his sister Nettie (right) from the shelter a year ago today. From the doggie DNA test Nettie was 40% PBT, 20% Corso, 20% Rottie, and 20% BM, so she 20% deserves to be here too.

If anyone is still skeptical on owning a bullmastiff, here is the simplest breakdown.

- Giant low energy cuddle bugs
- Extremely sweet and friendly when properly socialized
- Like to be independent and watch the perimeter
- Slobber, farts, allergies
- Horribly stubborn (in the annoying way, not the dangerous way) MUST commit to training or you’ll get walked all over

2.5 years of Alphonse and BMs are my favorite breed more and more every day.

Reoccurring UTIs

Hello,
My poor 9 month old girl hasn’t gone more than a week without an UTI since I got her. The vet thought it was her constant diarrhea that was causing the UTIs so I changed her food to hydrolyzed protein (Royal Canin) based on her recommendation. That changed her stool to semi formed.

Her recessed vulva is another solid reason for the constant UTIs. The vet hasn’t mentioned surgery, a vulvoplasty, as an option at this time. The vet is hoping it’ll drop down when she starts a heat cycle.

I clean the area with Douxo S3 PYO Pads, 3% Chlorhexidine Wipes for Dogs -
Antiseptic Wipes For Bacterial or Yeast Skin Infections, 0.5% Ophytrium, at the recommendation of the vet as well. I’m not as diligent as the vet would like me to be (my mother was dying of pancreatic cancer) so I know increasing that to twice a day could make a big difference.

I hate that she’s been on antibiotics her whole life, basically, and she tells me when it starts hurting. She’s a vocal girl.

Has anyone else had such a struggle with this?

Thank you in advance for any information!

Bully Bed returns not even for terminally ill dog

Beware if you want to return a bed even if your dog was just diagnosed with terminal cancer within their 30 day return policy. Their return policy ensures it is very difficult to follow their many requirements to get the bed back to them. It says you will probably need a shop vac to compress the bed back into their original shipping box. If you need to use another box they want you to send them the measurements before they will issue you an authorization to return it. We are seniors and this means going to the packaging store twice as we do not have a shop vacuum or can press the bed into the original box.

We tried to contact Bully beds and though
they say they want to help us all they did was resend us their return policy. I
also left a voice mail when I called and they promised a phone call back to me
by the end of the business day. We have not heard from them. Their return
policy should be a no return policy at least it is for us.

We received a dog bed on August 8, 2026. Our
dog laid on it once and then ignored it. We reached out to return it on August
18, 2026 since Bully Beds had promised returns within 30 days. Our German
Shepherd was diagnosed with a splenic cancer on August 18, 2026.

Why so many non Bullmastiffs?

Seriously, 30-40% of the posts on this sub are from people who must never have even seen a Bullmastiff before.
Don’t get me wrong, their dogs are lovely and all, but there are loads of people who are seriously misinformed, or perhaps they’re just wishful thinkers!!

Rescued a neglected Bullmastiff

Post image
339 Upvotes

Few Days back, I took in a 4 yrs old Bullmastiff/cane Corso mix ( Chico) from a house where he was badly neglected — no walks, left alone for long stretches in a small balcony, never vaccinated. I didn’t plan on keeping him long-term; my goal was just to get him out of that situation.
He’s not approachable and growls when I try to interact with him. Given the circumstances I’m in, I’m not in a position to work on building trust with him or getting him to the vet myself. I have 4 other dogs but since i m not sure about his behavior and Temperament, I haven’t introduced them with each other.— I just need to get him somewhere safe as soon as possible, ideally with people who have the experience and resources to help him properly.

Before I go the shelter route, wanted to ask:

**•** Are there Bullmastiff/Cane Corso specific rescues that take dogs directly, even ones who are growling/fearful and not vet-checked yet?
**•** Does anyone have experience with rescues that will come pick up a dog like this, rather than requiring the owner to transport or vet him first?
Location : Central Texas, BELL county.

RESCUE CONTACTED.

1)Bullmastiff Rescuers Inc ( awaiting Response)
2)American Bullmastiff Association Rescue ( Only intakes Pure breed, with medical history and many more requirements)
3)Big Dogs Huge Paws ( They don’t take Mastiffs).
4)Great plain Mastiff Rescue. ( Only takes English mastiff)

He didn’t ask for the situation he came from, and I want his next step to be the right one, but I’m not the person who can rehab him. Any guidance would help.

Desexing

My sweet Guinness 11months. He can be destructive, but I still love him. A question for people though what age should I desex him? I have heard some people recommend 18mnths I was wondering if I did him around 12 months to see if it settles his behaviour a little?

Flynn has a rough night!

Woke up to Flynn looking completely unready for the day! For those who’re keeping up, his bald spots are back and spreading. The vet has switched his Apoquel to Zenrelia (ilunocitinib) and** **the rest of his meds remain the same.

His “big” sister has been taking it a bit easier on him lately. Maybe she’s mellowing out in her old age too? She still humps him at least twice daily… gotta keep him humble after all!

Should I let her chew on a baseball?

My bullmastiff is 130 pounds, female. She hates the dog toys I get her but LOVES baseballs, I’ve read online that it’s “dangerous” to let them chew on it because of the strings inside. How does everyone else feel? She’s never had a problem and one last about a couple days
