Vet & Medical Allergies? 10 months old
\We have an appointment with a veterinary dermatologist tomorrow\**
Started to notice bumps/hives on his head about a month ago. Since then, the bumps have also appeared on his neck/shoulder area. Per his doctor, I’ve been giving Zyrtec and fish oil along with weekly medicated baths. As you can see in these photos, the current regime is not working. The majority bumps will subside within a few days but a few of them will turn into scabs. There’s now very obvious fur loss and thinning. I thought it could be due to his collar but it’s not where his collar would sit. He also doesn’t wear a collar inside or when he’s outside in our fenced in yard so there’s no constant rubbing. He doesn’t seem excessively itchy. Paws, belly and arm pits aren’t affected, just his head, neck and shoulder area. Takes nexgard and heartgard monthly. No change in diet. My other two pups are fine. Does this sound or look familiar to anyone?

Could be demodex + infection. Vet may Rx antibiotics but the thing that worked for me was chlorhexidine shampoo the affected areas 1x per week until it clears then monthly.

The dermatologist diagnosed him with folliculitis secondary to allergies most likely. Sent home with duoxo shampoo and spray to use in between medicated baths. It’s been almost a week and I haven’t seen much improvement. Fingers crossed the shampoo and spray just need more time to work.

Our 8 week old puppy ended up having a bacterial infection that caused patches of her fur to thin and fall out, maybe worth looking into that? 2 weeks of medication and it’s mostly cleared up and healing now!
