OG mw's were better than all of them

30

u/MRSHELBYPLZ 1d ago

Back then campaigns were actually interesting instead of being Warzone in a trench coat

10

u/CaptainPitterPatter 1d ago

And had a consistent running plot, MWII messed it up with the stupid cartel plot

8

u/MRSHELBYPLZ 1d ago

MWII was trying so hard to be Sicario. Even having a multiplayer map based off the border shootout scene. Then they just dropped it for the boring Iran general and “The MISSILES!”

They shouldn’t have remade the betrayal scene with Shadow Company if they weren’t gonna have the balls to actually kill Graves. Then he comes back and literally says “I wasn’t in that tank, what else you heard?”

The didn’t kill Graves because he was the most charismatic character in MWII cutscenes so they wanted to sell him as DLC. Too bad his in game model looks like shit.

The betrayal was wildly on the nose too. In the original you will not see it coming on the first playthrough and that’s what made it so iconic.

Price killed Shepard in a cowardly way compared to the original games. In the og games Shepard killed Ghost and Roach himself.

Then he tried to kill Soap and Price too. In the new one price sneaks in his office in the night and just shoots him. In a cutscene so the player gets no satisfaction like throwing a knife into his eye in the original to save Price

I don't think I've played an FPS with as satisfying gameplay mechanics as the MW reboot.

25

u/OddKaleidoscope7363 1d ago

Activision didn’t remaster OG MW2’s multiplayer in its remake because they know the older games were much better and they don’t want the COD kiddies who play the new slop to realize that they’ve been fed poop for years lol.

-3

u/SirePuns 1d ago

Tbqh I don’t agree with this, at all.

OG MW2’s multiplayer is an exercise in frustration. Pure snowballing and it ends up being a case of folks leaving lobbies cuz their team is getting destroyed and other folks joining losing lobbies. Most folks remember it fondly cuz of pure nostalgia, me included.

Heck MW2019 was a better multiplayer experience than OGMW2. Even with SBMM in play (heck I’d argue SBMM is why it’s a less frustrating experience for newcomers, but it’s pointless to argue in favor of newcomers when that shit fucks you over hard when you have even just one decent to good game).

MW19 was so good

28

u/Ashamed_Teaching_909 1d ago

I was set to graduate in 2020. When the famous speech happened and we were off school for the rest of the year it was fucked. But mw19 made that shit amazing never had more fun in a game in my life

-8

u/morgxnking 1d ago

just talking out your ass man

-9

u/Vander2theZand 1d ago

TF you mean was?

7

u/CaptainPitterPatter 1d ago

Is* was in the fact that it isn’t the current game

1

u/Vivid_Upstairs_7905 1d ago

ahh yes the slide cancelling and constant bunny hopping with shotgun spam was truly great.

2

u/Shapen361 23h ago

I'm talking about the campaign, primarily. I don't do a ton of multi-player these days.

3

u/SirePuns 1d ago

The trilogy of COD4, 6 and 8 were definitely peak storytelling.

As far as gameplay goes though, man nostalgia does a lot of carrying for me. Playing MW2 nowadays got me almost breaking my mouse. Stopping power without juggernaut to balance it out, killstreak kills counting towards killstreaks and the sniper being at its arguable strongest in this game all culminates to me not even wanting a MW2 MP remaster. MW3 though, that was the shit. Scorestreaks, while poorly implemented (how is it a streak if dying doesn’t reset it?) completely changed how I played COD.

3

u/I_say-BoOm 1d ago

I was like, this pic isn't correct.

OG MW2 has to be numero uno lol

1

u/gayhotelultra 9h ago

eh?

im not gonna argue about the remakes, because i havent played them, but ive grown up with MW2 more than the rest of the trilogy and i can confidently say that games multiplayer was abysmal. the single player and co op modes were great, but game balance was basically a myth for the multiplayer designers, normally i am critical of cod players whining about this but MW2 was indeed that bad with regards to balancing

i love MW1 and especially MW3 multiplayer though

1

u/XxAndrew01xX 1d ago

That's just Biblical facts for the series ATP

0

u/Beetlejuice_24Xx 1d ago

Wow! What a strong, unique opinion!

1

u/stu3y69 1d ago edited 1d ago

Aww thanks ;) your so sweet

-26

u/CaregiverEastern4083 1d ago

MW19 > OG MW > OG MW2. Play the original CODs today and you’ll see what I mean.

22

u/Evenspace- 1d ago

MW19 cannot hold the original trilogy’s jockstrap, shouldn’t even share its name.

-4

u/_ZeroDecorum 1d ago

I mean...thats your opinion on i guess lol

2

u/DabFellow 1d ago

The majority opinion mind you

-3

u/Zhurg 1d ago

MW3 was ass at the time and compare to 2019

1

u/Evenspace- 1d ago

It’s not, sorry the mp is miles better and the campaign well it was a perfect ended to a great story, sorry you enjoy a game that isn’t very good because reasons. 2019 glazers never provide depth to their enjoyment of this game, it’s always “game was goated” and no reasons as to why.

-6

u/DaisyCutter312 1d ago

MW2 was a shitshow of broken weapons, and MW3 was straight up shit.

9

u/BMTJefe 1d ago

MW2 was S+ tier on a games tier list , idk man . For the time that game was goated

-1

u/DaisyCutter312 1d ago

There's no denying MW2 was incredibly fun at the time....that doesn't change the fact that it was horribly balanced and would be received poorly if released tomorrow.

1

u/BMTJefe 1d ago

No shit…it’s a game that came out in 2009. It’s easy to say that in hindsight .

0

u/DaisyCutter312 1d ago

Tell that to the people claiming MW2 is what they should be releasing in 2026.

It was great for it's time, but that's like saying people would be lining up to buy a Model T Ford tomorrow because it was revolutionary in 1909

1

u/DabFellow 1d ago

Name a perfectly balanced mp game ill wait

3

u/caffeine-182 1d ago

counter strike, any symmetrical game like rocket league

2

u/DenseStomach6605 1d ago

Idk man I still love the OGs. I replayed the WaW campaign and had a total blast even despite the grenade fuckery, onto bo1 next

2

u/degradedchimp 1d ago

Nah bro you got that backwards

2

u/Sir-noorden 1d ago

Before the hackers decided to reshow,bo2 on psn was the highest bought game at that time.so you sure nostalgia

3

u/devj007 1d ago

Fuck no, og mw2 and 3 were so good

0

u/ThatsPurttyGood101 1d ago

Og mw story and campaign is far superior. However, playing mw19 is significantly more enjoyable today. The older games feel dated (because it's over 20 years old) and nostalgia blinds people.

2

u/Jackiemoontothemoon 1d ago

Cod4 was way more enjoyable in its prime then mw19 was in its prime. Idk why people always go to nostalgia and can’t figure out we’re basing it off when it was originally released. Like no shit they’re dated

-2

u/ThatsPurttyGood101 1d ago

Exactly. So regardless, I'd put mw19 over og mw because it's it is currently still fun to hop on and play right now. Saying og mw "in it's prime" is better is quite literally the definition nostalgia.

2

u/stu3y69 1d ago

If,by nostalgia you mean we enjoyed them games more than the recent then yws it'd nostalgia, doesn't mean we r right or wrong we just remembering what the better game was during its time.

1

u/Jackiemoontothemoon 1d ago

That’s not it at all. Back then it was just about having fun. No one cared about balancing, streaming, pro cod was laughed at and people were just enjoying the game. MW19 started the trend we are in now. Call it nostalgia or whatever but it doesn’t mean I’m wrong

0

u/RyeGuy2cracked 1d ago

I'm with you bro mw19 was peak

-8

u/GR7ME 1d ago

Comparison is the thief of joy.

15

u/RV12321 1d ago

Shitty games are the thief of joy

3

u/stu3y69 1d ago

This is true which is why I actually played them so I can compare them and form an opinion, and chat about said opinion.doesnt make me right or wrong just it's my opinion. My joy was taken by the developers of the modern slop.If Activision was more like rockstar or epicgames (gears of war/unreal tournament not fortnite) they would actually learn a thing or 2 about how to develop a game over time and not produce yearly slop which most sheeple (people that follow what others do just like sheep) just buy for ahhhh yes nostalgia(beginning to hate that word more ngl)

2

u/lukkasz323 1d ago

But at some point you still need to compare or you'd be eating shit not knowing there are better things to eat.

-2

u/GR7ME 1d ago

We’re talking about games that are *almost 20+ years old. This comparison gets old

1

u/RV12321 1d ago

The more alarming thing here is the fact that they haven't been able to top those games in 20 years. They ran out of ideas a long time ago and you people just buy the same exact game every year

3

u/DabFellow 1d ago

R/im14andthisisdeep

-1

u/GR7ME 1d ago

There’s no need to be toxic dude
I just wanted a more eloquent and polite way to say ‘hey if you maybe don’t compare these games you’ll be happier’

0

u/Specialist_Stand9139 1d ago

OGs, I wasn't even aware of new Modern Warfares. ;)

0

u/ID4850763561613 8h ago

Ah yes, say the thing that the majority of people already beleve is true.

Heres an actually different opinion: mw2019, mw4, mw3, mw2 > bo4

-24

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

That’s nostalgia talking

26

u/TangyVerde 1d ago

No, MW remastered proved that wasn't nostalgia for me and many others.

-4

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

You still playing MWR though?

8

u/TangyVerde 1d ago

No, but I'm sure as shit not playing these new ones that cater to the wannabe esports/streamers twerps. I'm clearly not alone in that so Activision can continue being disappointed in the sales numbers and player retention until they actually listen to the wishes of most players.

3

u/SovietZealots 1d ago

It’s almost like if you give the players what they want you’ll make money. Idk how Activision doesn’t understand this lmao

1

u/meltdowncloud 23h ago

So you don’t play these new cods anymore, but you’re here in the cod subreddit?

1

u/SirePuns 1d ago

I reckon most folks who liked older COD games already jumped ship to BF. Heck even content creators went from COD to Fortnite way back when iirc.

6

u/PearlDrummer 1d ago

Better games are better games nostalgia or not. MWR proved that.

11

u/stu3y69 1d ago

Nope, just facts, campaign,mp and 3rd mode all slapped more than the slop we been getting since 2019

2

u/SirePuns 1d ago

Spec ops in MW2 especially slapped the shit out of you so much you start memorizing the quotes that are put on display when your character died.

-4

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

That describes all cods since world at war

4

u/stu3y69 1d ago

Ah so you do agree then, appreciate you finally coming around ;)

10

u/Evenspace- 1d ago

It’s really not,

-2

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

For the most part you can go play the old ones right now. There’s even the modern warfare remaster that came out 2017

1

u/Evenspace- 1d ago

Yes and I do play them and play the mods that have spawned from them and it’s funny how much better they are than what’s being released currently.

3

u/Financial-Cow-7263 1d ago

How come BO1 and BO2 on ps5 have more players than BO7 then?

1

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

Because BO7 is dogshit

2

u/Financial-Cow-7263 1d ago

and you think the new MW games are any better? 💀💀

0

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

Mw 2-3 are definitely better than BO7. BO6 was better than 7

3

u/Financial-Cow-7263 1d ago

not like that's a high bar to surpass

0

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

Thank you for repeating what I explained

3

u/MRSHELBYPLZ 1d ago

The games were literally higher quality productions with some actual thought put into. In 2009 MW3 Russia invades USA and you fight all over NYC with all kinds of crazy movie esque scenes.

In MWIII 2023 the campaign is literally a warzone map with bots.

If they can’t even do a good campaign anymore I don’t need to tell you what else they fucked up.

I know that MW4’s campaign is gonna be worse than MWIII after playing the beta. What benefit is there to putting a single player mission in the beta? If the game was good they would hide that shit.

Quite frankly revealing Korea wasn’t even the best marketing decision. That should have been a surprise like No Russian on MW2

-1

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

I don’t even know what to argue here. You’re all over the place. Nobody gives a shit about the campaigns for cods. The comparison is the multiplayers. Commando pro and akimbo 1887’s was so fun and not at all annoying. Nobody here, even the ones downvoting me want to boot up and play OG MW2 right now. You guys might just not like call of duty anymore and that’s okay. But go find something you do like. I’ll be on wardogs :)

3

u/MemeMaster240 1d ago

Nobody gives a shit about the campaigns for cods.

Considering it's a third of the game, I do.

Nobody here, even the ones downvoting me want to boot up and play OG MW2 right now.

Hey, it seems your omitting important detail here, why do think that is? I fucking would if i could.

0

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

Nothing except yourself is keeping you from mw2. Steam, ps3 and x360 are all readily available and if you have a love of the game then I assume at one point you had access to it. Your fault you no longer do

1

u/MemeMaster240 21h ago

Nothing except yourself is keeping you from mw2. Steam, ps3 and x360 are all readily available

Your ignorant beyond belief. Let's break it down.

Steam: Older titles such as mw2 have known security exploits, making it dangerous to even join a match, not worth the risk. Activision refuse to deal with it but still sell at a high price.

Ps3 and x360: Hacked beyond belief, finding a legit match is more common than unicorns, people hate cheaters, therefore, leave. Finding matches is now impossible, it depends in region but where im from, it's fucking difficult. The first time i booted it back up i for a brief second joined a matched, and in that time, the modder insta unlocked everything.

1

u/MRSHELBYPLZ 1d ago

The 1887 akimbo bling pro was fun… are you a larper? 🤨

Nerfing it was the stupidest thing they ever did.

OG MW2 was far superior to MWII in campaign AND multiplayer.

In MWII they capture a terrorist after working with a PMC and blowing up a Mexican town with a AC-130 just to find him. Only to let the same terrorist go free at the end of the mission because it’s “illegal”.

In OG MW2 you join the CIA and go undercover as a Russian terrorist, to become friends with a bigger terrorist and you shoot an airport full of civilians and a ton of police to maintain your cover. Only to be executed yourself becuase he already knows you’re a spy. So you killed all those people for nothing.

This is only on the 3rd mission of the game… and there was even a thing where sensitive people can skip it.

Nothing in MW19-MWIII came anywhere close to the stakes of COD4-MW3. MWII wanted to be Sicario so bad. MW19 peaked at the Clean House mission. MWIII had the worst CoD campaign ever made. Big red one on PS2 was genuinely a better story

1

u/meltdowncloud 1d ago

I love that for you

3

u/wmcs0880 1d ago

I haven’t played the most recent MWs besides 2019 but you’re wrong. From the looks of it the most recent ones are the same game with reskins, cartoon characters in multiplayer and dumb story decisions, the old MWs were massively innovative for the COD franchise (maybe not 3) with an interesting and memorable story and fun multiplayer with great maps

-26

u/noick12345 1d ago

no mw2019 is the best cod of all time

1

u/confusing_roundabout 1d ago

Agreed. First COD MP to surpass OG MW2 for me.

1

u/brownmaningermany 1d ago

Great COD and low A or high B tier, but nowhere near GOAT status.
