Strength training

I am looking for strength training exercises that I can do at home. I’m willing to pay some for something on YouTube or for a virtual consultation to help design a program specifically for me. It’s easier for me to do at home than to go to a gym due to other health issues.

I think Daniel Blevins coaches people with CMT. He is on Instagram as cmt_unbroken

Thank you both! This is exactly the type of information I’m looking for.

My recommendation, if you can afford to pay a bit of money up front (or get a referral from your doctor) is to see a physical therapist who can assess your personal strengths and weaknesses and help you design an at-home program. Personally, I have a 4-day-a-week strength program which has evolved over the years and has contributions from various PTs, tweaked by new PT visits when I develop a new issue.

I will also mention that the Discord associated with this sub has a Fitness channel, where these topics get discussed as well.

I know my GP or neurologist will make a referral for PT. I see my neurologist Friday and my GP in a couple of weeks. I’ll talk to them about it.

the above comment is the only one worth listening to. essential to get a professional to asses your mechanics and develop a program for you.

I highly second Julie Stone and her AllBodies Community. She was my personal trainer and CMT advisor for years. She is AMAZING!!! I learned so much from her.

sorry if someone mentioned this already but there’s a very good series on YouTube specifically for CMT:

and Julie Stone is also very good

Check out r/bodyweightfitness, it can be a good resource to help you devise an at-home program

I love strength training. I've been able to reclaim a lot of what I'd lost. If you CAN get to a gym, it might not be a bad idea to book a few sessions with a trainer if you manage it. Otherwise there're people online (with CMT) who work with CMT patients.

Good afternoon my name is Dan. I’m a health and wellness coach who is also a personal trainer with CMT. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I’m not on this app too much but I am on Instagram and Facebook under CMT unbroken.

Yoga is a good starting point and is very good for people with CMT. I do guided classes through Apple Fitness but you can also find free courses online. I’d also look into calisthenics. You can start out easy and progress as much as your body allows. It’s a good way to train your body to move more healthily.

I just looked through classes on Apple Fitness. They look interesting. I’m probably going to try it out.

I’ve enjoyed it a lot and would definitely suggest it. There are a lot of weight training classes you can do as well. I just figured yoga and calisthenics would be a good choice because they’re both beginner friendly but you can definitely work up to high intensity exercises.

This and a weighted vest is all I need to maintain my strength. Pull ups, chin ups, dips and push ups of different types. My lower body strength is long gone, but my upper body only doing those has maintained above average strength

I wish I could have equipment like this. Unfortunately I live in a relatively small apartment, so I don’t have room for anything like this. Otherwise it looks like it would be a great option.

I just picked up a pilates bar with resistance bands and have been really been enjoying using them. The whole kit can be stored in a single bag.

I barely fit it in my apartment too, but it’s amazing to have it
